History
Executor is a Macintosh "emulator" developed by ARDI (Abacus Research and Development, Incorporated), a
Delaware company founded in 1986. Executor is quite different from the other emulators available today, in both
technical and practical terms. ARDI used "clean room" reverse engineering of the Macintosh Operating system
to develop an emulator that does not require a Mac ROM, or a Macintosh operating system. This removes the
legality issues that plague most conventional emulators. This also makes Executor exceptionably fast and stable.
The speed and stability come at a cost, however, as currently, Executor can only emulate MacOS 6.0.7 (possibly OS 7).
This means that only older Macintosh programs can be run on it.
ARDI has the most intuitive emulator available. Improvements are in development, including PPC emulation. If they
can be carried out, they can become a dominant force in the commercial emulation market.
