Old Language Training Book, G3 era.

Anything about Mac emulation that does not belong in the above categories.

Old Language Training Book, G3 era.

Post by mikeincousa »

I know nothing of Macs, past or present.

I have a language training book with a CD that requires

    Power Macintosh Power PC processor (G3 or higher)
    MAC OS 8.1 or later
    64 MB or more of available RAM
    10X or higher CD-ROM drive

On the cd is an HTML file that somehow, apparently, links the *.aif files to the lesson.

The hyperlinks have this syntax.

<chapter heading="Chapter 2">
<bullet num="2" mem="1">Doublets</bullet>
<bullet num="3" mem="2">Phonological alternations</bullet>
</chapter>

The audio file do not follow any apparent logical naming order or clustering.

I cannot connect them with the respective lesson. There are over one hundred such files.

I am guessing that the “mem...” tag some how makes the association and calls the appropriate audio file?

What I need is a table that links the lessons with the right audio file.

Trying to listen and thumb through the book looking for matches has proved very frustrating to hopeless.

Can anyone kindly let me know if such is possible and if so how to run the software in an emulator?

Thank you.

You can try to run the software in SheepShaver, which emulates a Power PC Mac that can run MacOS 7.5.3 through 9.0.4. Versions for Windows, Linux, and MacOSX can be found on our site.

Are you willing to upload an image of the CD in question?
If so, IMGBurn on Windows creates perfect copies of Mac CDs may they be HFS or mixed mode.
In case a bin/cue image is created, both files are needed to recreate a CD.
Some here would try the CD image to figure out how it runs best.

Thanks.
I'll have a look at both tracks.

I've taken a quick look at SheepShaver.

MOL lost right out.

Do you know if this will run on Ubuntu 16.04? It's the only Linux I have at the moment.

is the file you mention?

Which version should I use?

I do not know about sending copies of copyrighted material over the web?

This disk may not work under any circumstances so I really do not want to invest in a long learning curve, and it looks like SheepShaver will be a challenge for me to get properly installed then learn how to run it.

BTW. The audio files will not play on W8 that's what turned me to Linux.
