Hey everyone,

I have the original CD for Oregon Trail II and I'm trying to install it on Sheepshaver on my Mac Pro. However, whenever I insert the CD it mounts in Mac OS X but will not show up in Sheepshaver at all. If I take the disc out and put in DinoPark Tycoon it mounts perfectly in Sheepshaver and I am able to play and install that. Any ideas on what's preventing Sheepshaver from seeing Oregon Trail II?

Is it a Macintosh version of the game? According to this Wikipedia article, the Oregon Trail II edition was Windows only.

It has both the Macintosh and Windows version on the CD.

Which SheepShaver build do you use? In the February 2012 and earlier builds, best insert the CD and mount it in OSX before you launch SheepShaver. Recent builds, like the July 15, 2012 test build, should more reliably mount CDs that are inserted while SheepShaver is running.

Does the CD mount as one single volume in OSX, or does it mount both Mac and Windows volumes? If it mounts both volumes, first remove the Windows volume, then start SheepShaver.

I downloaded the latest non-test version as of yesterday. The CD mounts as two volumes in OS X, one as an audio CD for the soundtrack and the other as the game. I've tried letting it mount in OS X first and then launching Sheepshaver.

SheepShaver only reads CD-ROMs, no audio CDs and thus also not the soundtrack of this game. You may be able to mount the volume with the game in SheepShaver if you first mount the CD in OSX, then remove the audio CD volume and then, with only the game volume mounted in OSX, start SheepShaver. If the game can be played, it will be without the soundtrack.

Awesome! That worked, I ejected the audio cd partition of Oregon Trail and it popped right up in Sheepshaver, thanks so much :)

Just my somewhat pointless remarks...
SheepShaver can (could) play audio CD´s - a well known fact.
The device drivers used to accomplish that are very much outdated, unfortunately.
Windows XP hosts can do the trick, but I dont think we are going to see this feature again with recent operating systems I´m afraid. :(

SheepShaver on MacOSX was discussed here. As far as I am aware, SheepShaver on MacOSX never could play audio CDs.

We windows users have always been privileged with that audio functionality and the fact that we can (to some extent) run office 98 and 2001! As for other improvements, we are left behind...

Best,
