I was playing the Spaceward Ho! 5 demo, and having a good time of it (it runs perfectly in SheepShaver except for the problem I'm about to mention, and it's annoying that right-click on my mouse doesn't send CTRL-click to the OS to open context menus), so I went ahead and bought it. Bit steep at $30, but I played it a ton as a kid, so I figured it was paying back all that shareware playing back then.
Anyhow, whenever I try to register The Ho!, SheepShaver crashes. I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit) on the outside and Mac OS 9.0.4 on the inside. I've tried the latest Windows build, the previous Windows build, I've tried enabling/disabling JIT, enabling/disabling sound, ignoring/not ignoring illegal memory accesses, tried running with a minimal required extension set (need carbon, quicktime main extension, and some open transport stuff), tried compatibility modes, nothing seems to have helped. I'm using the new world rom, you know, the one that people are told to google
It got to the point where now when I run The Ho!, I get an error message right before SheepShaver locks up that my key has been used too many times; clearly it's hitting the network and getting a reply right before crashing. Another hint: The Ho! is creating a preferences file for my registration, but it's 0 bytes (crashes before writing?). Classilla doesn't crash (much), so networking seems to work fine. Oh yeah, and I have to run with 512MB+ RAM to get the thing not to crash on boot, like everybody else with the latest build.
Any other suggestions? I'm pretty much stumped, and there doesn't seem to be any sort of useful logging going on that might give hints.
