PAUP* in Mac OS 9

Post by cobusvisagie »

Hi,
Currently I am successfully running PAUP (phylogenetic analysis software) in Sheepshaver within Snow Leopard. I've tried to make this run on the Windows build, but as soon as I start the analysis, Sheepshaver crashes and quits. The analysis should not even be resource intensive. I'm desperate for a solution to the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
SheepShaver behaves differently with its hosts unfortunately.
Usually W2K or XP are pretty stably, but there seem to be apps not working on all hosts.
Maybe you would like to try Mandriva as a host for SheepShaver?
I your analysing software can be run in 7.6, I would try that Mac OS, because it seems to be the most compatible for SheepShaver
You will of course need the 4MB ROM (e.g. from RedundantRobot) for 7.6.
Good luck!

Hi, and welcome!

Did you try to check "Ignore illegal memory accesses" in the GUI? Perhaps that improves stability.
I case you don't have the GUI running, you can also edit the SheepShaver_prefs file in your sheepshaver folder and set:
ignoreillegal true

Best,
