First post, not entirely sure if this is the correct place to post this question, so I am sorry if I got it wrong.


I am trying to capture a ROM image from a Macintosh 5300c Powerbook (my own computer) so that I can setup SheepShaver. copyROM does not seem to be working and I was wondering if anyone had managed to successfully capture a ROM image from this model? I have also tried ROM-Grabber and that at least fires up and asks where I would like to save the ROM image to, but then freezes. Any help you can offer would be great.

If so could you tell me about your experience and the tools you used?

Did you try booting with extensions off to get a rom? I don't know if you extracted rom will work with Basilisk/SheepShaver, though.

I tried something similar with really every tool I found.
The ROM seems to be dumped, but the file is useless.
I had to learn that SS wants a ROM file from a PPC 9500 or 9600.
It seems that ROM routines are patched heavily by SheepShaver, so I doubt many other OldWorld ROMs will work.
If you don´t need operating systems prior to 8.5, the NewWorld ROM should be all right for you.

5300c is still a pre-OF NuBus system... It's ROM will certainly not work in Sheepshaver.
