No Luck

Trying to get Sheepshaver running on a Mid-2012 Mac Book Pro. Using a G3 ROM I pulled of my G3 and an 8.1 Disk. Tried cdrom failed kept ejecting and image. Tried using an external drive and still failed to use the disk same message.

Message - The System Software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another drive. I used disk utility to image to *.cdr format and still failed same message.

Any recommendations? Running 10.10.5 currently.

Please read and follow the setup manual closely. You will find out that:

- Not sure the G3 ROM will work.
- The 8.1 disk will only work if it is a general retail disk (green label with white "8"), not if it is a machine-specific disk (usually grey label).
- OSX 10.8 and later prevents mounting of physical CDs in SheepShaver. You will need the workaround with disk images created from CDs.

A disk image should be locked in the finder, otherwise SheepShaver thinks you are not booting from a CD. For the rom, please check the redundant robot site for a sure-to-work oldworld rom.
The oldworld rom is needed to boot anything below Mac OS 8.5
