SheepShaver freezes while starting 8.5

Post by hBarcellos »

Hello all.
I have burned a 8.5 image into a CD-RW. On Gentoo 2004.0 sheepshaver is compiled perfectly, Im using 800x600 window mode CD is recognized, It seems to boot perfectly (Mac OS loading) but the progress bar freezes in the very begining.
1) I have tried to hold shift and disable extensions. Freezes to, a little bit later.
2) I have disabled JIT. Sheepshaver does not freeze, it ends with the following message:
Illegal instruction at 40810000, opcode = 4cdf1808
3) I have tried to use /mnt/cdrom as a volume. Did not recognized anything. Question mark blinking on my face.

Any1 has a clue about what's happening ?

i'm not too sure about what could be wrong, but try burning the OS8.5 image onto a CD-R rather than a CD-RW, and check that the cd is not mounted under linux.
If it is mounted, then unmount it (you normally have to type a command at the command prompt, ut i'm not sure what it is)

Hi Stephen, I'm a big Amiga fan too. I still have my A1200. Nice web site you got.
I forgot to mention about the mount. I have assured that /mnt/cdrom wasn't mounted. By the way, my Gentoo can't even mount the cd, returning an Error saying that it cant recognize the FS.
I'll try to burn the image on a CD-R tonight.
Do you know if there's a way to see some debug messages from SheepShaver ? Something like ./Sheepshaver --debug on

Regards,
Heitor Barcellos.

I hardly know anything about linux, i have only just installed it on my system.
I also don't know much about shhepshaver, as i can't even get it to load ot compile.

So i'm not sure what your problem is.

Is that the website in my signature that you are on about?

Damn. Freezed again. Even with a CD-R.
I'm gonna test the CD with my iMac to see if it's ok.
About debug messages ? Someone knows if and how i can do it ?

Heitor Barcellos.

What ROM image are you using? Have you tried the one available from Apple described in the User's Guide? It has been reported to work very well.

Try checking the "ignore illegal memory access" option as well.

I'm using the one from MAC OS 8.6 Cd, taked from MOL webpage.
My 8.5 image is one from aMule called Mac Os 8.5 Optimus.ISO. I have downloaded that but im not a pirate because I have a legal copy of Mac OS 9 from my iMac Graphite SE. I don't know with Apple let me downgrade my license, but anyway i fell myself a little better with that. I'm just testing SheepShaver anyway!
well.... I have tried with both Enabled and Disabled ignore illegal memory access. Same behaviour.
When i set JIT it only hangs, does not abort.

regards.
