I've got SheepShaver for OS 8.6 up and running - many thanks to the authors and everyone who made this possible.
I've discovered (I'd forgotten!) that some software that ran fine in 7.1.1 would not run properly, or occasionally not at all, in OS 8.
Would it be possible to set up 2 instances of SheepShaver (in separate folders?) - one running the 'new world' ROM and OS 8.6, the other running the 'old world' ROM and System 7.1.1? If so, what should the SheepShaver folders be called, and would they share the Shared folder?

Re: Multiple Sheepshavers?
You can set up separate SheepShaver "self-contained virtual machines".
See description in our setup manual: http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/she ... l_machines
SheepShaver VMs can use the same shared folder, but the VMs cannot be run simultaneously.
Edit: The software that runs in 7.1.1, is that PPC software? If it is 68k software, may be better to use BasiliskII instead of SheepShaver. BasiliskII emulates a 68k Mac.

I think it's for both - my first Mac was a Powerbook Duo that had a 68400 Quadra chip, but also had a label on it "PowerPC Ready", which I think meant that it could also run PPC software? It came with 7.1.1
(Perhaps I'll try Basilisk all the same...)

Re: Multiple Sheepshavers?
Well the Quadra chip is certainly not PPC. I do not know what that "PowerPC Ready" could have indicated.

Re: Multiple Sheepshavers?
I seem to recall the 280c was designed with a PPC upgrade option, but it wasn't included in the hardware at sale time due to power consumption issues.
Did you have a PowerBook Duo 280c?
Did you have a PowerBook Duo 280c?
As you can see, Apple never carried a Quadra Duo; they went with the stripped down 68LC040 instead of the full 040 chip (once again, for power consumption reasons).PowerBook Duo 270c (active color display) 68030 33 MHz, 68882 FPU
PowerBook Duo 280 (active display) 68LC040 33 MHz
PowerBook Duo 280c (active color display) 68LC040 33 MHz
PowerBook Duo 2300c (active color display) (Apple never offered a monochrome 2300, but a 2300 PowerPC motherboard could be installed in the PowerBook Duo 250 as an upgrade. PowerPC 603e 100 MHz
Re: Multiple Sheepshavers?
No, mine was the Duo 280 - very similar to the 280c but with 16-colour 'greyscale' (which actually looked very good). Checking in MacTracker, yes I see it used the 68LC040 chip rather than the full Quadra. And as quoted above of course.adespoton wrote:I seem to recall the 280c was designed with a PPC upgrade option, but it wasn't included in the hardware at sale time due to power consumption issues.

However, it did come with a triangular red sticker across the top of the display (not covering the actual LCD) which said something to the effect of ... well, I can do better than that, thanks to Google! :

That's the one! I didn't realize that was on the 280 as well as the 280c, but it makes sense. I also recall that people who did the (expensive) upgrade found that they needed to be plugged in all the time or they only had ~45 min of battery time.
