Update from Mavericks to El Capitan & SheepShaver crash
Hello - I have recently updated my MBP from Mavericks to El Capitan and I find that SheepShaver has stopped working. It opens to whitish window and after several seconds it crashes. Crash report is not useful to me.
I have looked on the forum and have not found an answer yet.
How do you think I should proceed?
Thankfully Basilisk appears to be working!
Thanks for your time and insights!

Re: Update from Mavericks to El Capitan & SheepShaver crash
1. In OSX 10.10 and later, SheepShaver will only run in 32bit mode. Make sure the related box is checked in the Finder Info panel for SheepShaver.
2. Delete your ~/.sheepshaver_nvram file. To do that, you can use the "Zap PRAM" script that is included in the SheepShaver download.
If this doe not solve the issue, please post here the content of your prefs file:
Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/) and type at the prompt followed by a return.
The file will open in your default text editor. Copy all content and paste it in your post here.

No issues with SS here on a MBP 8,1 and 10.11.4 (Hackbook)
10.11 got a clean install though.

Re: Update from Mavericks to El Capitan & SheepShaver crash
Indeed. everything should still work. All my SheepShaver setups were migrated three times between Macs, the last time between 10.8 on my previous iMac to 10.8 on my current iMac that was subsequently upgraded to 10.9, then 10.10, and finally 10.11. The SheepShaver setups continued working without problems.
But... I always updated SheepShaver to newer builds and I now see that "OldMacOSNM" still uses the October 2009 build. That build does indeed not run in 10.11. Simply replacing the SheepShaver application by the latest build will solve the issue.

Okay, now. Followed directions and SheepShaver.app does not even open (no icon, so no bouncing). Not even getting crash reporter. Thanks for helping me out here.

Re: Update from Mavericks to El Capitan & SheepShaver crash
Shortly after this I decided to start from scratch and deleted the prefs via the scripts provided and ran SS prefs app.
Still having no opening of SS app and no icon so no bounce and no crash report window.

On my "Macs" I never got things rolling without this little helper from Ronalds setup guide:
http://www.emaculation.com/sheepshaver/ ... rPrefs.zip
In doubt, you may try a bootable volume from here: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macos-753-emulators
It wants the OldWorldROM in SheepShaver though.

Re: Update from Mavericks to El Capitan & SheepShaver crash
I wonder if you actually replaced the old application with the new one in place in the existing folder and without changing any of the other files. If you did, it should have worked. Anyway, if you deleted the prefs file (better then also delete the nvram file), you can indeed start from scratch. With no existing prefs file and with the rom file named "Mac OS ROM" and located in the same folder as the SheepShaver application, you should be able to launch SheepShaver and access its built-in preferences editor. See the setup guide for more details.
