Hi all,

I've started having nuisance problems with the TAP-Win32 adapter recently. It didn't happen immediately after SP2 update, but only in the last couple of weeks. All I've really been doing network-wise since then was updating OS X to ver.10.3.6 (got the Java update as well).

The host-client connection appears up and running from both ends, but no data received at Mac end and none sent or received at the Win end.

Both can ping their own end of the connection, but Mac ping to Win times out, and Win ping to Mac gives "hardware error". I've had my share of problems with TAP interface before, but never seen this message before.

I tried switching NICs in the Mac - had always used the Realtek previously, but thought I'd try the 3com one. Think this went badly. What I did was switched active adapters in config in the middle of the restart during install of the 3com drivers. On restart, PPC console spewed A LOT of errors from the 3com module and continued to do so on successive restarts. It didn't help anyway, as it too showed the ol'green light - but no data, just like the Realtek.

I've now upgraded to OpenVPN 2.0beta15 but that doesn't seem to help either. After uninstalling the old driver (2.0beta11 I think) and installing new version, the old TAP-WIN32 interface reappeared when I tried to setup ICS! I've now gotten rid of it, but the whole thing seems a bit screwy.

I even tried the winsock corruption fix, though that's supposed to affect only Win2k users, but no joy.

I know the Mac side of things is okay, because I run the same IMG on a Linux host too (dual-boot) and that's networking perfectly.

</despair>

So, any ideas?

Nevermind, got it sorted in the end.

I unticked all the clients/protocols on the TAP adapter apart from TCP/IP protocol, then it paused for a bit and the packets started flowing.

I've since re-enabled File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks (to permit networking between Win+Mac) and it's still okay.

I could have deleted this since there were no responses, but I'll leave it in case someone has a similar issue.
