Can it run Mac OS 9?

Post by dhartje »

I'm trying to make a collection of OS's, and one of the few Mac OS releases I don't have yet. Is it possible to run OS 9 in PearPC?

slightly longer answer: check emaculation.com for information about SheepShaver, an emulator that does run Mac OS 9.

Sheepshaver doesn't like my computer very much, but it's still usable.

If you're a linux user, get mac-on-linux. It basically replaces all of the mac emulators emaculation mentions. I haven't goten it to run.......... yet.

Note that MOL (Mac-on-Linux) only runs in Linux on PPC hardware.

Well that sucks! I've only got one PPC in my house. The only problem is, is that it cannot run Mac OS X, and is made in 1995.(Power Macintosh 7100/80)

Hi,

The long answer is that even though pearpc people worked on that issue, they wanted to wait for a project that worked on open firmware to get to a stage that mac os 9 booting would work. That project never delivered what was needed, so pearpc never got the ability to boot mac os 9. And for pearpc developers, the focus was on getting OSX running. running Mac OS was only a side track.

QEMU does do PowerPC emulation. If you ran a lite PowerPC-compatible GNU+Linux distro you might be able to run MoL decently.
