I searched for that error in the forum, and it was referenced a few times without any definitive fix. It seemed to be related to the installation of OS X in some cases.

Can you add some details:

1. What version of PearPC are you using?

2. What version of OS X are you trying to install, and where did you get the disk image?

3. Did you set up using our guide and the setup GUI it includes:

And you are using the most recent version (0.5) of PearPC? You will have to have gotten that from the official PearPC page.

The last post in this page seems to address the error that you report:

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6970820.html

Otherwise... not sure what to suggest. The handful of posts in this forum that reference the error do not suggest a solution.

Hi,

There is no real solution to this error. You can try to lower the screen refresh rate by increasing: redraw_interval_msec = 60 or even a bit higher.
You can also try to lower the amount of memory you assign to Mac OS X.

Hello, that post is for PearPC 0.4. I will try with PearPC for windows tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have better luck. Also, what is "Gentoo"?

That post should also apply to pearpc 0.5.
Gentoo as in Gentoo Linux? http://www.gentoo.org/

Gentoo: a species of penguin, and a "everything from scratch" variant of Linux.

PearPC: I find I get great results using PearPC 0.5 Windows inside WineSkin on OS X. I can't recall which skin I use, but it's one of the latest WINE ones. I generally generate an app for each guest OS I want to run (each with its own 6GB image).

Have you tried removing the NVRAM file? Do you run other OSes in PearPC? Because as I recently stated in another thread, 10.1 *is* runnable, but its NVRAM layout isn't compatible with 10.2+. You can't run them on a shared instance of PearPC and expect them to work.

I will try removing the nvram file. Also, I only have one machine: Mac OS X 10.1 that I am waiting to install. Has anyone else installed 10.1, and if so how did it work?

Edit: I also changed the Config file's memory and CPU. Could that be the issue?

Is there any way you could five me directions on how to use PearPC with Wine?

Install this, use it to bottle up a package, and install PearPC into that package. Drop your 6GB image etc. into the appropriate place inside the package, and you're good to go -- you've got a single "app" that contains everything needed to run 10.1 through 10.4 PPC.

Yes, it could be -- 10.1 has pretty tight requirements for those (not too high, not too low). Unfortunately, I don't have access to my 10.1 image atm.

Thanks for the link, but how do I install pearpc? Whenever I try and use the Wineskin, the logs only say "usage: ppc config". How do i get PearPC to recognize the Config file?

Hello again, PearPC says "error: can't open boot file" While running in wineskin. Also, is it possible to automatically set up a command shell line to be used when Wineskin starts?

ah yes; the secret sauce.

Instead of making wineskin select pearpc.exe to run, I have startppc.bat in the same folder. It contains:

Code: Select all

cd c:\pearpc
ppc ppc.cfg
pause
That config file is the ppc.cfg file :)

Thanks, I'll have to try that out. Now, whenever I try and start PearPC, it says "Error. Can't open boot file." What does this mean? Is this a problem with the nvram, video.x, or my Config file? Also, PearPC in Ubuntu seems to have the IO/CUDA error whenever I move the mouse, so it might be a mouse Config problem.

Probably best to check on the PearPC forums for that; they cover pretty much every issue there.

I think he is refering to the forums at PearPC.net

But it looks like the domain expired and is now serving up adverts. Shoot. I hope someone has an archive of the forum database somewhere. Lots of good content there.

Boot file refers to the bootloader, IIRC. Do you have a bootfile.dump file in your pearpc dir? Can pearpc read the EFI bootfile off of your disk image? Make sure you have prom_bootmethod = "select" set, not "auto" so you can ensure your bootmethod is correct at startup.

Hello, I managed to get the installer to boot using PearPC 0.4. Once i got to select a destination, the installer said my HD was a DVD. so then i went and tried changing it to a different format (the disk image), but then this error came up:
"GenuineIntel
CMOV MMX SSE SSE2 SSE3
[TAP-WIN32]: Enumerating TAP devices...
[TAP-WIN32]: Error opening registry key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\{4D6E972...}mail{} caught exemption: Could not locate any installed TAP-WIN32 devices."

I did fix the disk image back to its original form, and this error still came up. here is a link to a screenshot: https://app.box.com/s/ew9699zpeoxynvhqbran
