Does anyone keep the VirtualBox GUI?

Post by vinhtq115 »

It seems like the download link of the VirtualBox GUI doesn't work anymore (502 Bad Gateway). Do you keep the installer?

Do you mean the PearPC GUI? VirtualBox GUI is available from Oracle's website.
You could try web.archive.org to search for the latest version of the GUI available.

Yeah sorry for making you confused. The PearPC VirtualBox GUI. Yes. I can't download it from the website that wiki directed me.

Edit: seems like web archive keep the file. It worked too. No virus detected in sandbox after install. Why the installer is marked as virus?

Some scanners detect a "virus" because the file contains a blank disk image that is tiny when compressed, but expands into a huge file. This is called an "archive bomb" when used maliciously. Rest assured, though, that the GUI does not contain a virus.

Which scanner flagged it as a virus? And what exactly did they flag as a virus? I could probably tell you the answer to why if I had that info. It's likely what ClockWise suggested, but could be a few other things as well.

My Avast blocked the file when i haven't finished downloading it yet
Avast said: This file is a decompression bomb (42110).

Ah; that explains it... 1) you're running Avast, and 2) it detected the "compression bomb" compressed empty image.

"The size of a disk image must be a multiple of 516096. Disk images are simply files. It's up to the client to understand their format."

So you just need to create a file that is a multiple of 516096 in size, and then select it as the image. Fire up Disk Utility, select the image, and format it.
