MPLAY has a 68K version:

But based on the comments posted, it might be hard to get.

So maybe try this:

http://www.mp3machine.com/software/MpegDec/

Or just look around that site.

The 68k version of Mplay is not capable of playing mp3s.

You can try either:

ftp://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/pub/info ... 11-68k.hqx

or

ftp://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/pub/info ... ec-253.hqx.

Both programs convert the mp3 to AIFF format before playback begins.
You may have to reduce the sample rate to get acceptably smooth quality.

I don't know what you mean about converting to AIFF before playback begins.

MpegDec and Mpg123 for 68k macs are just your usual mp3 players and just play a mp3 through the audio hardware.

MpegDec is faster and has more features than Mpg123.

MpegDec can also convert the mp3 to a AIFF file as an option.
