UNIX on Basilisk II

Post by Ceris »

Is it possible to install 68k ports of UNIX systems (e.g. OpenBSD, Debian Linux, NetBSD), to Basilisk II?

If someone started adding more accurate hardware emulation, then yes. However, nobody that knows how to add hardware emulation is currently helping. You can't install A/UX (Apple UNIX) in Basilisk II or Mini vMac due to missing hardware (Basilisk II, missing MMU, disk controller, etc. And Mini vMac, wrong disk controller). Besides, Unix will bypass the rom and access the emulated hardware directly, so unless you can accurately emulate the hardware, you cannot run Unix. I'm sorry that may not be the answer you want, but that is the condition of Basilisk II.

Coincidentally, this was just posted in the other forum:

A new emulator that can run A/UX. Cool, right?
