No Unix Drive

I have tried to find this info on the forum, but it always seems to fall short of solving my issue. I will try and get you as much info on the issue as I can, thanks in advance for the help.

Followed the steps as outlined on this site for Basilisk II, which is dated 20091004. I hit start on the GUI and I get everything except the share folder named unix. I have checked the address of the folder, tried several different ROMS, and have tried a couple different system disks as well. Still no Unix disk.

I am running a non-intel MAC G4 with OS 10.5.8. If I saw right the new GUI does not work on PPC, but there is another one that does? I downloaded both, and only one of them worked.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Welcome!

You can help us by copying the content of the basiliskII prefs file in your reply.
Open the terminal and enter "open .basilisk_ii_prefs" (mark the dot in front of the file name)
Copy the content you see and paste it in your reply.

Most common problems are:
-You do not use the correct startup disk image (the startup disk image required is linked to from our setup guide: http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/bas ... _osx_setup (see step 3)
-You have an error in your path to the shared folder (we can check that from your reply)
-You are using a less compatible rom file. (when you use the rom file recommended on the site we refer to in the setup guide, you should be OK.)

And yes, the newer GUI only works on Intel mac running Mac OS X 10.6/10.7

Best,
Cat_7

I get an error message using the startup disk for download on the step you mentioned. I have tried several others that are recommended, and they all load properly. This one does not.

I did try it again and got the same error message: this startup disk will not work on this model.

Here are the preferences with the startup disk the site recommends:

Hi,

I see a double forward slash in your path to the shared folder!
extfs /Users/admin/Downloads//Basilisk/shared
This is not correct.

Below, I'm referring to the guide I linked to before:

Did you set the processor options as indicated in the picture under:
6. Configure preferences in Memory/Misc tab in the guide?
You must set model id and cpu type as indicated.

Also, you need to take care about the order the disks are listed in the volumes tab.
The disktoolsimage should be the first in the list!, as can be seen in step 2 under Running the Basilisk GUI. To get them in the right order, remove the two other disk images with the remove button in the GUI, so only the Disktools_MacOS8.image is left, and then add the others back to the list by using the Add button.

(Your second posting with the preferences showed the correct disk images, but in the wrong order)

Furthermore, I see you are using three different folders to keep your Basilisk stuff in.

/Users/admin/Downloads/Basilisk/sharedbasilisk/
/Users/admin/Downloads/Basilisk/
/Users/admin/Downloads//Basilisk/shared

Would it not be easier to put everything in one folder, /Users/admin/Downloads/Basilisk/ and make the shared folder inside that folder?

Best,
Cat_7

Problem solved. Looks like the issue was coordinating the CPU with the startup disk--now I have the drive. Sorry for wasting your time. Bonehead move, just got ahead of myself.

Remember that it's sensitive to Mac OSes - 7.5.3 and up is required for the Unix disk to appear. 7.0 and 7.1 won't see it...
