All programs (and other files) show up as documents

Post by gruegirl »

I'm running Basilisk II for windows (build 142 due to the blank screen bug) and mac OS 7.5.4 but all programs I try to run show up as documents of an unknown file type. All I really want to do is play Taskmaker and Tomb of the Taskmaker (which I've been assured is system7 compatible) but I can't get it to run, or even be recognised as a program.

Files or apps for the emulated Mac on Windows must be moved in a Mac compatible "container"
to prevent the file´s resource fork from being destroyed.
Such container can be of .img, .dsk, .sit or .zip type (and a few more).
Best copy the desired apps as sit compressed file to the emulated Mac´s HDD (not to the desktop)
and unstuff it there with the suitable Stuffit version.
Many apps already are contained in a img, the img can be added in the BII GUI for mounting.

Ah I see. Is there some sorta self-extracting version of Stuffit I can get for system 7? I can't extract .sit files without one.

Alternately: Any way to mount a .zip or convert a .zip into a .img/.dsk suitable for mounting?

Macintoshgarden has/had zipped img with Stuffit Expander for Macintosh.
If that should be unavailable atm, I could make an img for you to get started.
Game and Stuffit Expander Installer - would that do for you?

Edit: You might try this http://ubuntuone.com/5P2pzHtLSbdgvsmYnI27ER
Unzip in Windows and add to the volumes list in B_II. Note that "TASK.img" is the file you want, "._TASK.img" is a "hidden" file created by OSX and useless for you. According to your unzip routine a Folder named TASK may be created, containing the two files.

Hope that helps!

That seems to have worked, I'm going to have to do some tweaking to get it to run in color, but it seems to have worked. Thanks.

The black screen issue has been resolved in the latent version of bII.

Best,
