Unix Disk
Well it has taken me two years off and on to get to this point.
I start up ok but the unix disk does not appear on the desktop. I checked to make sure that I had the unix root address correct and even reentered. Still no unix disk.
Help please. I have tried to search the site for an answer to this problem but have not found one and probably don't know enough to know what I am supposed to be looking for.

Re: Unix Disk
Could it be you are using some flavor of 7.0 or 7.1?
The Unix "drive" does not work with those, as these Systems are missing a feature.
There is a workaround, but it escapes me "how to" right now.

Re: Unix Disk
The start up disk was the OS 8 Disk Tools and I am now running OS 8.1 (I installed directly from the original CD).
Re: Unix Disk
8.1 should of course work with the extfs (Unix).
Can you check whats in your .basilisk_ii_prefs? The prefs file is a hidden file: Users/"Your name"/.basilisk_ii_prefs.
In doubt, I would delte the prefs file and re-create it from scratch.

Beneath the disk entries should be the extfs setting.disk /Classic/BasiliskII/OS75.dsk
disk /Classic/BasiliskII/OS8.dsk
disk /Classic/BasiliskII/MacHD.dsk
extfs /Classic
screen win/900/600

Re: Unix Disk
Best show us the content of the prefs file.
If you are running BasiliskII in OSX (which version?), do this:
Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/)
In the Terminal window, type at the prompt followed by a return
The prefs file wil open in TextEdit. Select the content and paste it here.

Re: Unix Disk
I went into the Terminal application; got the $ prompt and copied ".basilisk_ii_prefs" and the the carriage return. No file found was the response. This was done under Users/name/

Re: Unix Disk
1. Which version of OSX do you run on your host machine?
2. Did you copy ".basilisk_ii_prefs" or "open .basilisk_ii_prefs"
3. If you check with BasiliskIIGUI, are the settings you entered before still there?

Re: Unix Disk
I have solved the problem about the unix disk. I typed the root address exactly as the instruction said. I created the shared folder in my Basilisk ii folder but the problem was that my Basilisk ii folder has an extended name UB 20091004. I moved the shared folder to my desktop and it came up immediately. Sorry for the trouble. I am not very good at this.
My setting in GUI are there and it opens perfectly. Got internet now try to figure out if I can get a USB connection.

Re: Unix Disk
Just a node here... I noticed different builds of Basilisk II will either mount the unix disk or not if there's nothing defined in the preferences file. That also happens with a few other settings like FPU, inter alia.
To be precise, the OSX 2009 build mounts the disk, the 2011 build doesn't, and a version that I compiled with all default settings also mounts it.
I suggest to anyone who would like to test different versions with the same settings to enforce all available options to both positive or negative values, never skip anything to avoid the emulator to use defaults.
