Error -192? Wat?

Post by cloudsoda »

Hey guys. So I found some old computer games from my childhood and wanted to try and play them on Basilisk II. Everything was going hunky dory, I'd installed the game perfectly, but as soon as I try to play it? Nope. "The application 'Rockett's Adventure Maker' could not be opened, because of an error of type -192 occurred."

I looked up old Mac error codes and apparently it's a resource manager error (other than I/O). I've no idea what that means. Halp please? :???:

Sometimes programs that worked on 68k Macintoshes don't work in Basilisk II. I would try it in SheepShaver.

That and trying another host for BII or SS may help.
I do not know the game, for what kind of Mac and OS was it made?

Seems it wants SheepShaver rather than BasiliskII.
You might try to check your app with this to find out how it was coded: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/nativechecker
From your specs its PPC, so SheepShaver should work.
Note that the OldWorldROM (4MB) is needed for SS running 7.6 or lower.
Many app of that time would run flawlessly with MacOS 8 or 9 though.

On a side note, please consider uploading your Mac gems at Macintoshgarden for preservation.

Arrrgh. I was afraid of that. The problem is, I can't use SheepShaver because I don't have a physical Mac OS install CD.

Maybe look here to find out whether your game will work at all with SS:

Many people found good advice at Gimmeslack12´s site.
This may also be worth looking at: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macinto ... 700-series alas its "Rapid"Share. :(

If you do not have a Mac OS install CD or image of such CD, you can install System 7.5.3 in SheepShaver in a similar way as described for BasiliskII in the BasiliskII setup guide.

For SheepShaver you need to use Disk Tools 8.5 PPC image as initial boot disk: http://www.emaculation.com/sheepshaver/ ... 85_PPC.img
And you will need an "old world" rom file

Follow the SheepShaver setup guide for the configuration and the BasiliskII setup guide for the installation procedure.
