To compare BII speed on 2012 MBA .and. 2015 MBA (both Sierra, both the same BIIGUI), I ran a tiny .prg file sorting a 20,000 items .dbf file and writing the result in a 1,600 lines .txt file. The test is completed within 6 mn by 2012 MBA, and within 11 mn by 2015 MBA. Should I throw away the last MBA or what ? (I note that BII count from 1 to 10,000 at the same speed on both macs).

Thats stunning.
Can you rule out a Sierra issue by running your setup from a external drive under Yosemite?
Other than that, I guess newer is not always better. ;)
Ivy Bridge may have had other optimisation goals than Broadwell U when it comes to vintage software like BII.

It's the same issue I complained about back in 2015. Performance takes a nosedive in BII on Retina Macs unless you have the screen geometry set correctly. It seems to have optimizations for standard sizes, and allocates memory correctly then. Otherwise, there's a lot of swapping going on, slowing down not just screen display, but ALL emulation.
