Seems to work for me at the moment. Might have been a temporary issue with the host? It's not the best host out there...

Ohh, I figured out what it is. I'm using Avast! anti-virus and the web shield was blocking my attempts to download. It never told me that, but I disabled the shields to download, and it worked. Should've thought of the anti-virus before. My bad. :P

Shucks, it seems like all the old Mac software out there as the same nvir virus. I scan the disks every time I change a file, but maybe something got infected again. Harmless on an emulated system. I'm just amazed that modern Windows virus scanners detect that from within a hard disk image.

Oh, maybe that's what it is? Never heard of that one before. Interesting...this is the first I've seen of an actual malicious Mac virus on the older systems.

Guess I'll have to tell people to be careful if they're going to put this stuff on an actual Macintosh computer!

Almost every single old Mac game I have downloaded has been infected with this thing:

Just make sure to have Disinfectant Init on each of your boot disks; it detects both nVIR-A and nVIR-B. Most Antivirus packages will still detect that, although many no longer support Stuffit archive expanding.

A non-trivial portion of the images on the Mac Garden are infected with nVIR-B or WDEF-A, IIRC. WDEF-A can be removed by rebuilding the desktop (command-option while loading Finder). nVIR comes off best with Disinfectant.

It lives!

I wanted to get an update in before the end of 2015, so I added "Air Traffic Controller" to the collection.

It's the 1992 release (the last one?) as I had trouble with the 3.0 release from 1988 that is up on MacGUI. I included a link if you want to try running the old version yourself. You might also try the commercial release of the game (under the title "Near Miss") from 1988, which is available on Macintosh Garden.

I added "Dungeon" to the collection!

This is the game that went on to be released as "Zork." After reading "Ready Player One" last month I had a strong desire to add a version of the game to the collection, but had a real hard time finding a version for System 6.

But, as always, Mac GUI came to the rescue, as I found a copy in their archive of comp.binaries.mac

Meanwhile, if you ever need to decode a Binhex file, this is really useful:

http://www.webutils.pl/BinHex

Remember that you need to include the part that says "(This file must be converted with BinHex 4.0)." It took me a few tries to remember that.

Looks like Infocom only has the later version available for download:

I would think that the Frotz interpreter would be easily ported to System 6 – but then, getting anything compiled for System 6 these days seems like an arduous task.

If you've removed the 80's restriction and are particularly hungry for updates, there's my old favorite Rescue from page 1.

There's also Storm Impact's old catalog:

The final version of the FORTRAN version was ported, and is available here:

Interesting to note that Bob Supnik updated Dungeon as recently as 1994.

Meanwhile, our old friend Neozeed built version 2.5.6 recently:

Jorpho, I seem to recall that those titles came up when I was first putting the collection together. Since I've now sort of discarded the strict 1980s rule, I think I'll add in both Rescue and Taskmaker.

I also found a port of "Rogue Clone" on the usenet archive that doesn't seem to be available anywhere else.

Hey, note that if you are browsing the Usenet archive I linked to, you can just click the "download binary" link instead of decoding everything yourself. Dogcow added that feature with me in mind but I managed to forget about it over the past year.
