Greetings!

Call me crazy but I decided to try installing PearPC/OSX10.1 on my ol' Libretto 110CT/64MB/WinXP Pro!

Well, it's now been almost 4.5 hours since I started PearPC/OSX install....

Still haven't gotten past that first OSX install screen that lists all the different languages....

What I see is a small gray colored rectangle with a whitish vertical stripe along the right edge of the gray rectangle. The gray rectangle sits inside of a larger black rectangle.

Inside the gray rectangle its says:

Use English for the main language
Row of Chinese looking characters
Utiliser le francais comme langue principale
Deutsch als Standardsprache verwenden
Usar Espanol......
more rows of other languages......

There are 12 rows total, but looks like it's cut off at bottom...

Bottom is where I would have expected to see some selection buttons to select and continue to next screen.

I set WinXP display to 800x600 so that I can scroll window up and down as PearPC didn't like it when I had changed config file to 800x480 to match what I normally set Libretto to....

Anyone got any ideas of why this is happening or what to do??

Thanks!

Mark

UPDATE: 4:15 PM

Well....

Managed to uncheck boxes for uneeded packages (even though I can't see checkboxes)....

Clicked on Install button (even though I can't see checkboxes)....

Then got the following Error Message:

"Could not prepare volume for installation.
There were errors installing the software.
Please try installing again."

Well, there went 5.5 hours down the drain....

So problems seems to be:

1) Somethings not set right as OSX Install windows didn't show any checkboxes, buttons to click, scroll bars, etc. Also, what should be that stripey looking background pattern in window was just black. Probably why I can't see buttons, etc...just can see text in little gray rectangle set into that black background.

Any ideas on how to change display settings for this??

2) Figured something wasn't quite right when after selecting the '2.9 GB' hard drive image it said 'Erase and format destination as:' at bottom of gray rectangle window....I assume there was other info there as I didn't see anything or a place to type in or select choice....

Also, assume this may relate to the error message I got above after OSX Install process started about 'Could not prepare volume for installation....'

Any ideas on how to deal with this one??

Any other thoughts???

Thanks!

Mark

OSX 10.1 always had display problems with PearPC, however I am unaware of installation problems. It could have been that all the people who wanted to install it got desperate (because of the graphic bugs) and went out to buy Panther.

Thanks for the info PPC_Digger!

Someone on the PearPC forum suggested that I try PearPC v.0.2.0 with OSX10.1....thought I'd give that a shot...

Would have loved to use OSX10.2 instead of OSX10.1 but I heard that since my Libretto 110CT only has 64MB RAM that only OSX10.1 would work....

no way. each new version of an OS that apple comes out with is more stable and is more efficient. panther would be best.

Wilhart,

My comment was in reference to using PearPC/OSX on my Libretto 110CT not a fast new PC....

The Libretto runs at 233 MHz and has 64 MB Max.

Well....it's now 6:40 PM and OSX install says that there's about 10 minutes to go supposedly....Ha!

Started install at 9:15 AM this morning!!

At least this time, graphics are good and I can see what I'm doing....

Hopefully, install will finish today!!

My poor ol' Libby is getting a workout today!!

Happy to report that 'the Eagle has landed'.... 8) 8) 8) 8)

I've got OSX10.1.4 running (if you can call it 'running'...more like 'slowing') on my ol' Libby!!

Very cool to see OSX on such a little laptop!

Only issue besides that the fact that it runs like molasses, is the display resolution was set in the config file to '800x600x15'. However, the Libby's display is only 800x480....so constantly scrolling up and down to see bottom of window, etc.

Is it possible when using PearPC v0.2.0 to change resolution to 800x480?

The config file in v0.2.0 just gave me four resolution options to choose from...chose closest one 800x600...

Thanks for any advice!

Mark

Tell me, is this computer a very small (5-8") touch-screen laptop?

Yes, this is a little subnote that was sold in the US in about '98...

It's about the size of a VHS videocassette tape and weighs about 2#....
Has 7" display, no touchscreen. There was a similar laptop by Palmax PD-1100 that did have touchscreen...I had one of those for awhile...should have kept it...

I know where you can still get one PPC_Digger...

Have good source for Libretto's.....business name is LibrettoSource.com
Also, sells on eBay....

There's still an active mailing list for Librettos too....

Obviously, they're not for real heavy-duty computing but they do the basics very well....and easy to take everywhere...

it's a little late in the game for this but...the latest 0.4pre builds now have 10.1 graphic support. i'm not sure if it works or not though... remotecvs is bogged down most of the time now, so i suggest the builds on richard goodwin's site (http://www.richardgoodwin.com).
