I have a DMG that contains a classic Mac game. I was able to open the DMG in OS X and extract the files to a folder. Then I extracted them from the HD image using TransMac (Using the Mac Binary Method). Then I copied the files to a HD image that would work with Basilisk. I opened Baslisk and tried to run the game but it said Cannot find required resources. I discovered that while the files took up over 500 MB on the OSX compatible image, it only took up 350 on the Basilisk compatible image. I guessing theres a problem when you move files between HFS+ and HFS partitions. Or is it possible that you have to copy some files using different methods than others? Isn't the automatic method supposed to do that? I copied them all at once.

Am I breaking any of the rules in the Tiger and DMG rules thread?

I thought of using Stuffit. But when I went to install it on OS X, it said I needed the OS 9 Classic utility installed. That makes no sense. When I dl'd it from Stiffit.com it said it was for OS X and its in a DMG archive. Man why does this have to be so damned complicated. :x :x

The first problem is that you are moving the Macintosh game from your HFS+ hard drive image into the Windows file system. Once you do that, the resource fork has been stripped from the file, usually destroying it. When you move the damaged file into the HFS hard drive image, it's missing all the strings, icons, images, sounds, etc. that were in the file in your HFS+ hard drive image.

You are on the right track ... stuffit via the Aladdin StuffIt Standard Edition trial, move into Windows, then move the file into Basilisk II (preferably using My Computer, not HFVExplorer) and unstuff.

I'm not certain about the solution to the problem you are having installing Stuffit Standard. Maybe someone here will know of an alternative.

PS: It's too bad the hard drive images that B2\SheepShaver\Fusion PC\SoftMac use and PearPC use aren't compatible. Or some free utility that can access a PearPC hard drive. I wonder if PearPC uses the same SCSI hard drive file format that SoftMac can use?

Transmac (and HFVexplorer) have different copying methods to choose from. I thought the Mac Binary method was supposed to keep files from getting damaged when copyimg betweeen MAC and PC. And the automatic method too. But that method doesn't always work.

If you get transmac, you can open the hard disk used in pearpc using the option in the combo box called "Volume Image File". just browse to the hd image, and click open, and it werx. Enjoy!

Thanks but I already knew that and as I said before its the coping method that I'm having problems with. Not accessing HD images.

do you have a mac? or at least a second computer?
you could move the files that way.
I have not used Balilisk so I do not know if you can network.
If the file that you want to open was stuffed by the classic suffit, then when you click on it to open in OSX, it will try to load the classic version.
you need to open stuffit and select the file once the program is open.
you may also zip the file and move it that way or RAR it.
usually you need to have the installer of the game to be successful.
Can you drop the files on your win desktop with OSX running in PearPC?
I move files all the time but i have several connected together so I just shuffle til I get what I want.

The game is in a DMG archive. I extracted the game from the DMG in OSX. I thought of using Stuffit. But for some really stupid reason, you need Mac classic installed with OSX to install the version of Stuffit thats supposed to be for OSX. If I could use stuffit to transfer the files, my problem would probably would be solved. What kinda sick bastard would put a 12yr old Mac game in a DMG archive anyway?

You could try to convert it to an ISO and mount that inside Basilisk, and let Mac OS read it directly.
