I don't know which build it is, but this is where I downloaded it from so that's the version (I downloaded the PowerPC one because it said the other one crashes; I run Mac OS X but it seems to run fine on it):

I asked, because the Monitors control panel that you describe, with the the line "Changes take effect when Monitors is closed" is clearly different from the one in my 7.5.5 installation where changes in color depth take effect immediately with the control panel still open.
Edit: Ah, I now see that line. I looked at the bottom of the control panel window. The Monitors control panel works fine here.
I just checked, it's 7.5.3 Revision 2. Should I update to 7.5.5? And if so, how?
