System 5.1: Actuality?

Post by fanman93 »

I recently downloaded a disk image that claims to be the System 5.1 Tools disk. Well, there are two of them, actually, but that's not the interesting thing. When I go to "About this Mac", it show that the system is, in fact, 4.3 and that the finder is 6.0. What should I make of this?

I do not know about this specific system version, but different versions for "System" and "Finder" were not unusual in early system versions.

Those versions sound just about right to me :)
It wasn't until somewhere in the System 6 upgrade path that Apple attempted to unify the version numbers.

That 5.1 is System Software version 5.1 . It came with system 4.3 and finder 6.0 . See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of ... Software_5 for more details.
