When I run the no-SDL version of the latest build under Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit with the Old World ROM, SheepShaver exits immediately after I click Start and I get this on the console:

(SheepShaver_03-09_2010_NOSDL:24300): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/gobject/gsignal.c:3079: signal name `depressed' is invalid for instance `0x78e78340'

(SheepShaver_03-09_2010_NOSDL:24300): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.24.1/gobject/gsignal.c:3079: signal name `depressed' is invalid for instance `0x78e784c0'

R/G/B mask values : 0x00003f, 0x0007c0, 0x00f800 (depth = 16)

Should I take the leap and install the 2006 packages, or is this fixable with the 2010 binary?

Hi

That error is different from the one encountered and solved previously in the SDL builds. I don't know why it occurs on a non-SDL build. Have you tried the SDL build?
What build are you using exactly? The one from our sticky post, or the one by our member charlie_mtz? What are the graphics settings you are using in Ubuntu? And what in SheepShaver? What graphics card do you use? What version of SDL have you installed?

The 2006 build is made by the original developer, perhaps it doesn't show the error. I think it doesn't differ much from the current build, as not much has been done on the Linux side. But one fix should contain the cursor placement repair.

Best,

I'm using the build from the sticky post. I think I got that part figured out, actually -- I was using the connection through a vnc4server (Xvnc) virtual console. When I use it in my other VNC session (tied to the actual console) SheepShaver runs as expected.

I have yet to get the Ethernet driver to load ("invalid module format") or compile, but I understand the compilation issues to be an issue with the Ubuntu kernel sources -- perhaps a generic source tarball will fix that.

Hi,

There are two ways to use the network. One is to use Slirp, which creates a local DHCP server that is linked to your network. The networking option with the kernel module might provide more complete networking, but if you can get by with slirp, there is no need to use it.

Best,

No worries, I got it all working, kernel module and all. Netscape 3.0.4 is displaying what it can of the AOL web page and reminding me just how far the web had yet to go in the 90s... :)

Hi,

Next, you'll find out how far web browsers still had (have) to go in Mac OS before becoming crash-free

Funny you should mention; I downloaded iCab 2.99a and the first time I ran it it got as far as me telling it not to import bookmarks before SheepShaver died with the "illegal instruction... opcode = 02020002" message. Now every time I start iCab it does that. (Netscape running fine so far...)
