Hi,
a friend gave me an old hard disk to check if there are readable data on it.
I could connect it to an external SCSI case with a 68 to 50pin adapter.
The drive is spinning up and is creating some head calibrating sounds, but it does not show up on the bus.
Do you think this is a usual failure for a damaged device?
Or am I missing something?
All my disks could be located on the bus till now, even the almost dead ones.

Do you have some clues?

Is your SCSI bus properly terminated? Or does the drive have termination jumpers? Are they set correctly?

Best,

Hi Cat7 !
Yes, the bus is terminated with an "active" terminator as usual.
The other devices are "seen" on the bus by SCSIProbe.
Do you think there might be anything to jumper for "narrow" compatibility?

I don't know if this "Atlas" drive can operate on a narrow bus.
But you could find a data sheet here:

Thanks, Mike for the pointer.
I checked all jumpers again and tend to regard the drive as defective.
I am unsure if it can be operated with the good old NCR53C96, but I have a DNES-309170W working with it all right.
As far as I can recall, the 68pin devices were supposed to be downward compatible.

If anyone would like to have the device given for further investigation, just drop me a note.
