Hey, I would like to connect my Power Macintosh 7100/80 to my cheap netbook. The netbook has three USB ports, and only that. My Power Mac has a few NuBus ports, and maybe an SCSI or serial. How can I connect the two without spending more than $25 USD?

Is this a SheepShaver-related issue?

*Do you have a router?
*Do you already have a home network setup (wireless router w/ ethernet ports, and a broadband internet connection)?
*What is the exact model of your netbook?
*What OS does the netbook use?
*Are you already able to surf the internet on it?
*What Mac OS do you have installed in your 7100?
*What browser(s) do you have installed in your 7100?
*Do you have an AAUI/Ethernet transceiver hooked up to your 7100 (which allows it to connect to a standard ethernet router)?
*Is your 7100 hooked up to the internet?
*How much ram and hard disk space does your 7100 have?

Also, why are you trying to network the two together? Is it for simple file-sharing or for something more sophisticated (if for something more sophisticated, i likely won't be able to help)?

Also, if you don't already have the needed Mac OS Operating System (at least OS 8.6 or 9.x), an Ethernet transceiver, you probably would go over-budget when it comes to finding a dedicated software utility that will allow you to transfer files between the two machines.

If you need a transceiver, I saw one on Amazon.com for under $12 (not including shipping)....

The only other cheap (or hell.... "free") solution i can think of is to just use e-mail. If you have enough RAM installed in your 7100, install the Classilla browser, then use a free Gmail account to mail yourself the files you want to transfer. Simply access your Gmail account from your netbook and/or vice versa.

Your Netbook sure has a RJ45 plug for ethernet.
Try to set up a AppleTalk server with Windows XP. PCMacLan has a free demo mode for example.

There is also Dave for connecting your Mac to a PC network.
You will need a AAUI adapter for the Mac´s ethernet port, of course. Then you can connect with a cross-over cable to the Netbook.

I did PCMacLan setups in the past with patch cables and a hub. Mac OS 7.6 or higher should do fine with the 7100.

A PPC7100 can only connect with 10Mbit/s and AppleTalk eats bandwidth, so be patient.
If you would like to move files to SheepShaver, I would recommend transferring DiskCopy6 Images.

I gave up trying to connect SS on GNU-Linux as client to my iMac. Maybe you are luckier.
If you can access the internet with your 7100, a free online storage like Mediafire might serve you well, if you don´t need file transfer on a regular basis.
Be sure to deflate your files with Stuffit, if you move them ouside the Mac world, to prevent resource fork loss.

OK, well I just deleted linux and made a Hackintosh of my dell mini. I may have better luck with OS X
