Hello,

If I try to install Mac OS 9.0.4 from the original disk (Apple Power Mac G4) the following error message appears:

"You can't use this program on your computer. For further information please have a look at the documentation."

Could you please help me? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I've forgot the specs:

    – Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server 10.6.8
    – SheepShaver 2.3.20101106
    – Mac OS Rom Update 1.0

Hi,
Welcome to the forum!

Your problem derives from a well known issue: the cd you are using is meant for a specific mac. You need to get hold of a universal install cd for all mac models. If you don't have such a cd, you can look for a cd image of Mac OS 9.0.4. at the macintoshgarden website. it is on page 8 of the "apps" selection. Please make sure you pick up the image that says something like "Good OS for SheepShaver".

Best,
Cat_7

Hi Cat_7,

Thank you very much for your help. Does SheepShaver recognize the cd image automatically? If not, which method do you recommend?

I real CD is recognized when it is inserted and mounted on the host machine before you start SheepShaver.

A CD disk image file (like the one you can download from Macintosh Garden) needs to be locked in the Finder and added to the volumes list in SheepShaver preferences and should not be mounted in the host system.

It is all described in the setup guide. The alternative instructions for using a install CD image instead of a real CD are in italics.

That's not fair ;-) I'm in Amsterdam too right now... Tomorrow my favorite historian Jonathan Israels is going to be interviewed by another historian, Philip Blom, in Felix Meritis and I will be there.
And my hometown of Sittard is in the Netherlands as well...

You nickname is the adagium of my favorite Philosopher, Spinoza.
Judging by your emailaddres, you are "een zuiderbuur"? Or from the perspective of my hometown "een westerbuur"?

Met vriendelijke groet,
Cat_7

I live 200 meters from the place where Spinoza was born in 1632, but you already knew that. Will you be in Amsterdam all week?

For other readers: Cat_7 and I are probably the only two on this forum who actually meet occasionally in real life. Or are we?

Oh, and I am not the one who started posting off-topic here. ;-)

Nope, back home already ;-) We only visited for the interview.

Best,
