Hi, Im new to both SheepShaver & Basilisk II. I have successfully booted an old back up of OS 7.5.3 on both with the hope of using a SCSI scanner. From what I have read only Basilisk supports SCSI, however when launching the scanning software I get the error "this software only works with a Power Macintosh".

So I guess it is not possible, however I thought I would double check 2 things before I abandon the project.

1. BasiliskII can not emulate a power macintosh, correct?
2. SheepShave dose not support SCSI or Firewire, correct?

Thanks

Hi, welcome!

Yes is the answer to both your questions. Basilisk emulates the older Motorola 68000 series processors and SheepShaver the G4 powerpc processor.
You didn't mention on which host you are emulating, but only the really old Basilisk 142 version for windows supports SCSI.

Best,
Cat_7

Thanks for the reply

Im emulating on a i7 iMac with Lion, I could host on a windows machine however as I require both SCSI & a Power PC processor there is not much point.

I think il just have to buy an old G3 tower

Thanks again

I used my MacII with a Microtec E6 quite a bit, back in the days.
It will depend on your scanner model, if there is a 68k or fat binary plugin available e.g. for Potoshop4.
Would be interesting to hear, if you could make BII Build 142 work with a SCSI scanner.

Unfortunately is really hard to get any plugins / software for this scanner. Unless your willing to pay a few $1000 for silverfast. Its a Linotype-Hell Topaz 1.

On the odd chance anyone has the correct plugins / software & are willing to sell or trade let me know, I have multiple copies of genuine adobe & macromedia software, like illustrator 8, photoshop 4, page maker 6.5, free hand, and others

Have you attempted running it under Linux or Windows NT with a SANE or TWAIN driver? I seem to recall limited success back in the day (not pretty, but it worked with a power off between scans IIRC).

Some people reported Umax drivers working with Linotype Hell.

Did you try those already?

Edit: As pointed out below, links are dead. :(
This one is still on MG, HTH!

The links to the drivers don't work, unfortunately. You may need to find them elsewhere.
