Jeff Drew Interview - Part4
|
ClockWise: Any thoughts on Microcode's future?
sardaukar_siet: tell us about the future, then - no specific products, but ideas !
Jim Drew: Future products... well, I am getting out of the programming end. I
have another company that I have been playing with for many years, and I am going
to devote more time to that and just handle business issues at Microcode
Solutions.
ClockWise: A computer related company?
Jim Drew: The new FUSION base code is an emulation platform. It uses modules for
everything. We will release the programming information so that people could
convert existing emulations to our format. Basically, it would be like MAME is
for console games.. but entire emulations.
sardaukar_siet: That's great...
Jim Drew: No, not a computer related company. I design electronics for the R/C
car industry.
sardaukar_siet: will this SDK be free ?
Jim Drew: Yes, the SDK will be free.
sardaukar_siet: so, you'll stick with emulation then ...?
Jim Drew: We will charge for modules that we create. We would like to simply
emulation. There is no standard, so running different emulations can be rather
confusing. We are going to set the standard.
Jim Drew: Well, Microcode Solutions (which means CPU emulation solutions) is the
name of my company, so I guess we'll stick with that for now. :-)
Jim Drew: ack! simply=simplify
sardaukar_siet: Given your disc-copying background, i'm amazed you don't have a
HFV-editing like utility
Jim Drew: Would you like to know why we don't?
sardaukar_siet: SURE
Jim Drew: Because people would try to use it while the emulation was running, and
it would corrupt their hard drive.
Jim Drew: There is NO WAY to prevent this problem from happening, other than not
allowing the ability altogether.
sardaukar_siet: geez... i would sure need something better than HFV Explorer, and
i wouldn't do anything that stupid (i think) ;)
Jim Drew: We do have TransFuse, which allows file transfers during the emulation.
sardaukar_siet: I'm speaking of out of emulating... an HFV(X) manager app
Jim Drew: Yes, YOU probably would not. But with thouands of customers, most of
which are novice users, there would be a lot of really upset people.
ClockWise: Do you use your competitors products much?
Jim Drew: We don't use any emulation other than our own. We have run benchmarks
against the others, and ran software would knew would crash on other emulations
(just to verify it would crash).. other than that no.
sardaukar_siet: well, that rests my case... I'm ouut of questions... anything you
would like to say to our audience at E-Maculation ?
Jim Drew: Sure... to the readers of the E-Maculation web site (which is a really
nicely laid out site, btw):
Thanks ;)
Jim Drew: Emulators serve a purpose. If you need a Macintosh emulation that is
reliable, fast, and compatible - come check us out. If you need something to
play with, and like to reset your machine often, use the others... :-)
ClockWise: Nice to know you have seen our site!
sardaukar_siet: I would just ask if you can mail me proof of the Christian Bauer
code-stealing... to confront him with it on our upcoming interview.
Jim Drew: Sure what would like? Audio code, video code? etc. etc.
sardaukar_siet: Just enough proof... you be the judge
Jim Drew: I have your site book marked.
sardaukar_siet: why thanks !
sardaukar_siet: ;)
ClockWise: Wow.. can we quote you on that... :)
ClockWise: IN big Bold lettering?
Jim Drew: Sure... I visit it all of the time.
sardaukar_siet: Once again, thank you for your time and availability. I look
forward to FUSION 3 ! Bye
ClockWise: Thanks Again
Jim Drew: Thanks guys... take care!
