MECS: The Mac Emulation Compatibility Sheet

CURRENT PROGRESS:
(ver. 0.01-pre3b1)
50% finished

TO DO:
- Add Basilisk II results
- Add more Executor results (?)
- Add more icons
- Incorporate results from a different version of ver. 0.01-pre3a2

Introductory Note

First off, this sheet is VERY unfinished. A lot of programs have yet to be tested and many programs might run one way, but not another.

The reason I created this sheet is because of the lack of sources that tell what runs on an emulated Mac. There are many Mac emulators out there, but for most of the results, I used Basilisk II and Sheepshaver – largely because they are the most compatible Mac emulators I have used. If there are any more emulators you want me to use, I'll be sure to include them. Results might differ between which version you use and what computer is in use, but please know that this all occurred on one computer. So, I apologize in advance if the results change between people. If there are any corrections I need to make, create a topic regarding this or send me a PM on the forum.

Be advised that Executor can't run the actual Mac OS (it only runs the applications), SoftMac has no sound (it immediately crashes if sound tries to play), and Sheepshaver and Basilisk II share a lot of code with each other. Games that require an MMU and/or practically every single game that requires Mac OS X (that lacks support for Mac OS 8/9) to run it - yeah, they don't work. Additionally, hardware-rendered 3D games, as well as practically every one of the Mac OS Classic games which rely on Quickdraw 3D 1.6, OpenGL 1.2.x, and/or SDL will NOT run. Interestingly, OpenGL 1.1.2 seems to work as does the Mesa Graphics Library.

Speaking of Executor, ARDI already had a compatibility sheet of their own for that emulator right here: http://www.ardi.com/compat_search.php

I only tested Executor on a few applications, because it was so buggy (and slow) on my OS. In order to register Executor, you have to enable administrative mode OR enable compatibility with Windows XP.

If you want a no-cost, LEGAL Macintosh OS download, the best out there (at least officially) is System 7.5.3 (which can be updated to System 7.5.5). You can find these by searching through the Internet.

Newer versions of the Mac OS are not free (unless you consider piracy XP). But also know this: Any 68k emulator can only support Mac OS 8.1 and below, since any OS newer than 8.1 requires the PPC processor. Likewise, Sheepshaver can only run Mac OS 9.0.4 and below, because Mac OS 9.1 and beyond need the PowerPC's MMU, which isn't supported, to run. Note that Basilisk II is a 68K emulator and Sheepshaver is a PPC G4 emulator. Both emulators lack MMU emulation as it would take up so much power that they would be so slow.

As of now, I'm working on my own emulator in attempt to improve PowerPC Mac emulation. One consequence of this is that I've been researching more about how Mac hardware works as opposed to updating results here. Needless to say, I could dedicate whole pages as to how to write your own Mac emulator.

…and finally, what was used to run the emulators:

The Compatibility List

#

3 in Three

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - UNTESTED
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Sound cuts out time to time. Everything else is working perfectly though.
w/ Quadra 700/900 ROM - UNTESTED

(Executor)
Some of the animations are missing and bitmapping issues occur (quite often I might add)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It seems to work perfectly fine.

3D Brick Bash 1.4

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Seems to run perfectly.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - After raising the memory to 3,000 KB, the game will boot up and it seems to run nicely, but the mouse might accidentally go offscreen (I recommend you turn on fullscreen, select a 256-color display, and then play the game if you find that distracting).

3D Brick Bash 2.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - This is a PPC-only version of the game, thus Basilisk II can not run it. It does run quite well, though the cursor moves off the screen, which can be annoying.

3D Cannon

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It seems to work perfectly fine.

3D Bridge Deluxe 2.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It also seems to work perfectly fine.

3D Hearts Deluxe 6.5

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It seems to work perfectly fine, sans a few graphical glitches.

3D Hearts Deluxe 7.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - The Freeverse logo in the opening is completely whited out, but the game plays fine otherwise.

3D Pitch Deluxe 2.2.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It also works perfectly fine.

3D Sokoban

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It goes slow… really, really slow… and it only works with either Mesa or OpenGL 1.2.1 (the latter being unusable).

3D Spades Deluxe 3.2.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It plays out more or less like 3D Hearts Deluxe 7.0, sans the Freeverse logo issue.

99 Bottles

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - Value of bottles put in is locked as -INF (does not respond to any new values) and does not sing. Previous versions of Basilisk used to run this, but much slower than it should run.

A

A-Train

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – Any game speed other than the fastest game speed seems to cause the game to go really slow for some reason.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - It asks you whether you want to switch to 16 colors or not. Sometimes the game might delay. Occasionally, it hangs indefinitely – meaning you have to quit the game via Windows Task Manager.

Abuse (Bungie's Mac version)

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Seems to work quite well. If you experience lag, change the graphics settings.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - It seems to work quite well.

Adobe Illustrator 5.5

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It does run, though it might go quite slow when zooming up.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - It boots up and seems to run decently, bar a few issues.

Adobe Acrobat 4.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - Works fine

Adobe PageMill 3.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – It just works fine – the interface works and it doesn’t crash when quitting. (The program is PPC-only though)

Adobe PageMaker 6.5

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – It seems to work just fine

Adobe Photoshop 3.0.5

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It runs fine.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – It’s not too bad, though there are a few slowdowns.

Adventures of Pirate Isle

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It will boot up, but it goes so slow that it's more or less unplayable.

Age of the Empires (Trial Version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - It seems to freeze every once in while and the MIDIs can be sometimes faulty. Otherwise, it's seems to be good.

Airburst

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Since Airburst is a PPC-only program, only Sheepshaver can run it. The Strange Flavour logo usually doesn't play - odd. Also, the program runs sluggish, most of the music doesn't play for some reason, and it hangs occasionally. It is not being sold anymore, so tracking down a copy can be troubling.

Altivec Fractal Carbon

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It does run perfectly fine. If you want to run it a bit faster, download the Altivec Emulator (for Mac OS 8.5 and 8.6) and vmathlib from Apple's Developer FTP.

Ambriel Snake

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Seems to work OK.

Anagrams 2.4

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old Wold ROM - Not sure if you can call it a game, but I might as well add it here. It does work, though I think the program might be a bit slow.
w/ New World ROM - UNTESTED!

Apeiron

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - In Windows Build 142, by selecting “More complete ADB mouse emulation” under the 'Mouse' option (in the Basilisk II GUI), the game is playable. However, in newer builds, it will not load beyond the title screen, claiming not to find a mouse device attached to the ADB chain. Newer versions of Basilisk do not have the additional ADB emulation features required to properly run this game.
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Same as above.
w/ Quadra 700/900 ROM - Same as above.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Unplayable, since you can't move your ship around and has a GUI unlike Basilisk II. =(
w/ New World ROM - Same here.

Apeiron X 1.0.2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Fading effects are missing, the intro goes slow as hell, and the movement doesn't work. The bad news is that Ambrosia has removed the OS 9 version from their website. =?

Apimac English-Spanish Dictionary 4.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Quite weird … sometimes it runs. At other times, it doesn't and usually exits with a type 3 error (and in one case, crashing Sheepshaver).

AppleWorks 5.0.3

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM - Perfect – Everything runs perfectly.

Arashi 1.1.1

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - No complaints here. If you find the mouse control too sensitive, you could enable “More complete ADB mouse emulation” under the 'Mouse' option (in the Basilisk II GUI).

(Executor)
The vectors glitch out a lot and flicker like crazy.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Turn the display down to 256 colors and then the game should play. Sound is a little bizarre for some reason and mouse sensitivity seems to be too high.
w/ New World ROM - Same thing here.

Ares 1.2

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - You can not begin a network game for some reason. Otherwise, everything is OK.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Seems to work perfectly fine.

Asterax

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It seems to work just fine, as I’ve yet to encounter any problems.

(Executor)
It complains about this being a 32-bit clean application, but it will run. The game, unfortunately, runs quite choppy.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – There weren’t any hangs here. Sound echoing did occur as well as slightly lengthy load times (and sometimes, speed issues). Usually, it works just fine. However, it appears that when you quit this application and re-open it, Sheepshaver randomly quits.

At The Carnival

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM – v1.8 works in Basilisk with color (properly) but 1.1 will crash at the title screen.

Audion 2.6

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Plays .mp3s fine here, but I have no clue if CD Audio would play well.

Audion 3.0.2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It also plays .mp3s fine here. Not sure if CD Audio would work here either.

Avara

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It appears to be fully playable.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It works decently, but I highly recommend playing in fullscreen with 256 colors since the mouse will otherwise move off to the side and into the desktop. Also, the about boxes seem to be screwed up.

Avernum

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - This program seems to be PPC-only. The game does run, quite well I might add. Mouse control might seem awkward though.

Avernum 2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It appears to work fine.

Avernum 3

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Even this appears to work just fine.

Awale 3.4 (November 2002 - Classic Version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Seems to work fine here.

B

Barrack

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - When quitting and opening another game, application, etc. (or relaunching Barrack), the emulator crashes. The actual game runs pretty good.

(Executor)
It seems to only get as far as the Ambrosia logo before locking up on that screen.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Pre-2012 versions of Sheepshaver have some really bizarre glitches. At first, everything seems to run okay, if slightly slowly. Then, some weird things start happening as you progress in levels. The first thing is graphical artifacts left behind. That's fine. Then, the “Yummies” (bonuses) stop moving on the field after a few levels, making the game easier, but then the Yummie Cake (which bursts onto the screen, releasing the “Yummies” into the field) freezes up and leaves a translucent graphical artifact behind. This makes the game far harder. If you lose at this point, the game will simply functionally freeze with no way to restart or quit. Your High Score will be lost. Selecting “Demo” will also eventually result in this “zombie mode”. Most of these are gone with versions of Sheepshaver compiled after 2012.

Battle Arena

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Changing the controls to practically impossible since this program uses Input Sprockets. It doesn't seem like you can play the game here for some odd reason. Plus, when you exit the game, the cursor seems to be invisible.

BBEdit Lite 4.1

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It works perfectly fine.

(Executor)
QuickDraw drawing issues with the menu bar.

(Sheepshaver)
New World ROM - It works perfectly fine here too.

Beamwars 2.3.2

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – The speed of the players might be a little too fast. No problems otherwise.

(Executor)
It goes amazingly slow.

(Sheepshaver)
New World ROM – It might go a little slow when the players are entering, but it’s normal otherwise.

Beer Sipper 1.1

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It should be worth pointing out that this is one of the few games for the 68k that will allow you to run beyond a 256-color monitor. It does work, though there are sound shortout issues.

(Executor)
It is one of the few games I found to work quite well in Executor, bar some slow loading times, sporadic slowdowns, and sometimes missing sounds. That’s saying a bit, considering this was made in 2002.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – After raising the memory to 2 MB, this actually ran. It works perfectly fine when you do so and has a little fading effect when you return to the main menu.

Boom 1.1.4r2

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – When I first booted this up, it took ten seconds for the sound to start up. But aside from that and occasional sound problems (which are rather minor), the game runs just fine.

(Executor)
It can’t run in Executor and ends up crashing it.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It does run perfectly.

Boom 1.2.3

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - There are odd hangs for a few seconds, plus there's occasionally skippy sound.

Blades of Avernum 1.0.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It runs perfectly fine here.

Blobbo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Pre-2013 versions of SheepShaver had problems loading saved games properly (always on level one), but newer versions of Sheepshaver perfectly with this game now, including the level editor. (You must use the full version to use the level editor)

Blobs 1.8

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Indeed, it does run, though the program might seem a little too fast.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It did run pretty well aside from a hang that lasted for a few of seconds.

Blobs 2.0

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – The blobs’ graphics are little screwed up. The hangs, however, are frequent and last a couple of seconds.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The text from the high score table, the help screens, and the registration screen are all missing. The blobs don’t disappear, making the game more or less unplayable. There are also times when Sheepshaver randomly quits, especially in the help menu.

Blockwars

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Seems to work quite well, albeit a lack of music and jumpy sound. Oh yeah, InputSprockets seems to have a problem here.
So, I present to you the controls:
4 & 6 - Move the blocks left and right respectively
5 & 8 - Rotate the blocks, clockwise and counterclockwise
0 - Drop the blocks

w/ New World ROM - Unsure, though the file is very fault when using this ROM to say the least.

Bloodsuckers 2.0.1

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – There are sound short-outs every now and then.

(Executor)
Executor complains it being a 32-bit clean application, but it runs anyway. Sometimes, the sounds don’t play. The game also runs slowly.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The loading times might take some time. Hangs may also occur every now and then. There might also be a glitch where when you exit Bloodsuckers, there might be some applications that won’t launch due to a type 3 error. (By the way, if you’re interested in my highest score, I got 176900 around Level 7, Wave 3.)

Bommo Sweeper X 1.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Works OK here.

Brickles 3000

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It runs pretty well. However, it's VERY annoying when your mouse cursor moves out of Sheepshaver's window. To lower the chances of this occurring, place Sheepshaver's window in a corner or go fullscreen (if Sheepshaver will let you). Also, sound somewhat seems to skip for some odd reason.

Brickles Deluxe

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Seems to work A-OK here.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Same as Brickles 3000.

Brickles Pro

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Same as Brickles 3000.

Bubble Trouble

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It runs perfectly fine, though the game natively runs at 640x480x8.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Works fine here too.

Bubble Trouble X (1.0.2)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It doesn't run on Basilisk II, since this is a PPC-only program. It did run fortunately and it runs very nicely. One thing I did notice was that it said I had it for 2300 days (not a typo). But I downloaded this on November 8, 2008. O_o Note that this is an older version of the game; the newer version, 1.1.0, doesn't support Macs with Mac OS 10.3.8 and below. Plus, like Apeiron X, they removed the OS 9-compatible version from their website.

Burning Monkey Puzzle Lab (v. 1.6.1)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Music doesn't play for some reason. It is pretty stable during gameplay, though slowdown might occur during the fire effect when you get a game over. There is an occasional hang here and there, which unhangs after a few seconds. Otherwise, it runs decently.

Burning Monkey Puzzle Lab (v. 2.0)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - The music plays now. However, it lags a lot here (approx. 5 to 10 FPS during gameplay). Freezes when you get a game over apparently. I recommend you get version 1.6.1 instead of 2.0, enough said.

Burning Monkey Solitaire 2

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - This game can run pretty well, but it's recommend that you switch the amount of colors displayed to at the least a 15-thousand color display for a better experience.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Seems to work A-OK here.

Burning Monkey Solitaire 3 (Demo)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – Initially, it crashed Sheepshaver. But after a reboot and one minute of waiting for load times to pass by, it worked fine here. Music does work, but you have to go to the menu bar and select Music. There, you can select what music plays in the background.

Burning Rubber 1.2.3

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – The game runs fine, though it might crash occasionally.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – The logo, as well as the animation at the beginning, are missing. The logo will appear once a game has ended.

Bushfire

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Seems to be perfect, plus the movies are playing! It lags a bit, but it isn't too bad.

C

C.Dev Boggle 3.0

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Seems to run perfectly.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It runs quite well, but it can hang for a few seconds time to time. Recommended you turn the platinum sounds off.
w/ New World ROM - Same as the above.

FIXME See if this runs in PearPC. Due to the game's simplicity, it should run.

Caesar III demo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Seems to hang for a few seconds. But otherwise seems to be perfect.

Candy Crisis

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Runs, but seems a little laggy for some reason.

Carmen Sandiego’s ThinkQuick Challenge

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – The movies play, but the video is completely black or they aren’t very responsive. Hangs can occur. Also when trying to select an area, the cursor is more or less invisible.

Cave Dig 2

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Seems to work quite well.

(Executor)
The music doesn’t play and when trying to play a new game, Executor freaks out and quits Cave Dig 2.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Music seems to be a little skippy and sound seems be a little jumpy (the latter only happened in the August 8th build). But other than that, works quite well.

Cave Dig 3 (Classic Version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - It seems to work quite perfectly.

Cheese Toast

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It works perfectly – A bit of a notice though: Sound isn’t on by default, so press 0 to 8 on the main menu to set your volume up. Also, when you begin a game, you’ll notice it says ‘PAUSED’ on the top. Press ‘P’ to unpause it and you’re set.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – At first, it crashed. But, then I reloaded it and it worked nicely. And like before, sound isn’t on by default, so press 0 to 8 on the main menu to set your volume up. There is a glitch where the title screen doesn’t show up sometimes.

Chiral

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It runs perfectly, but it seems a little too fast.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Hangs very rarely. Otherwise, it's almost perfect.

Civilization II (68K) Demo

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It runs really well.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Seems to be perfect, aside from some hangs and slowdown.

Civilization II (PPC) Demo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Has an error type -7 when first starting up the game. Starting it again, after resetting, will often make the game run. The game actually runs pretty smoothly.

Close Combat (Demo)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – Has some cursor issues and also freezes a little bit frequently.

Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far (Demo)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – The about screen has a bizarre glitch-out and might freeze occasionally.

Clasilla

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – You need Mac OS 8.5 (possibly 8.6) in order to run this browser. It can get a little slow, but it does work.

CodeWarrior Gold 68K

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – CodeWarrior Pascal and C++ compilers run, but I’ve only used them for about five minutes and I’m not sure if they have any bugs.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – Same thing as Basilisk II

Coldstone Game Engine

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works perfectly fine here.

Color Dark Castle

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Refreshing the graphics seems to be a bit of a problem.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Seems to work fine

Color MacCheese 3.0

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – Seems to work fine.

(Executor)
An unexpected application error occurs.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – It works just fine here, except for some random crashes. Too bad you can’t save the picture as any other file than a PICT or MacPaint file.

Command and Conquer Demo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works quite well, even with the extras installed. =) It only hanged for about a few seconds here.

Compositor 1.9.5 SE

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Runs more or less fine, but the guide program that comes with it instantly crashes.

Corel Graphics 8

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Both Draw and Photo Paint work fine

Cosmic Osmo

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - Transitions are extremely slow (something noticed on HyperCard-based apps in Basilisk). This is very noticeable in the intro sequence, where the music will pause to allow for transitions.

CrossCards 2.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Everything seems to be A-OK.

CrossCards 3.0.6

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Same as the above.

Crystal Quest 2.2.5

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - Runs perfectly fine in color, but has an issue with being a tad too fast (and thus harder to control). Mouse tracking doesn't help the issue; it just makes it less responsive. w/ Quadra 650 ROM – To make the game run in color mode, hold down the command key while opening the file. It runs just fine under color mode, although a little fast.

(Executor)
It seems to run unbelievably slow (at least in color), literally at around 2 to 5 fps.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It works perfectly fine here, with no glitches and whatnot.

Crystal Quest 1.0.6

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - Runs a bit faster than it should but still very playable.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Versions prior to 1.0.6 do not work. 1.0.6 seems to work OK though.

Cyclone

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It works very well here.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - A-OK here, except for some hang issues. Also, when you quite the game, the apple menu blacks out for some reason. BTW, how did High Risk Ventures manage to get away with a clip from Ren and Stimpy? :?

Cyclone II

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It runs pretty well here, aside from some slightly lengthy loading.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Same things happens as with it's predecessor. And did High Risk Ventures manage to get away with a clip from Ren and Stimpy again? :?

Cythera

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Some odd graphic dithering goes on here, which doesn't make the game unplayable, but it's distracting nonetheless.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Appears to work OK here. Loading seems to take quite a while though.

D

Damage Incorparated

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - A type 3 error popped up. But by booting with the extensions off (hold the shift key while the OS is booting), the game then should run. You might encounter some lag or sound issues, which can easily be fixed by lowering the resolution and such in the options menu.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Occasional hangs occur, but it's nothing too big.

Dark Forces

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - The emulator crashed.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Occasional hangs occur, but it's nothing too big.

Dark Vengeance

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Loading is quite slow (takes about 30 seconds). Plus, only the software renderer is available. Lower the graphics and audio qualities of the game to make it more playable for slower computers.

Darkside Screensaver

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It will run fine, but the program has some screensavers that only work with PPC processors. Also, some of the savers need Quickdraw GX.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It works, but some of savers require Quickdraw GX.

DeadEnd 2.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works fine here.

DeadEnd 3D

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Surprisingly, this one did run. However, it only would run in the software rendering mode (since Sheepshaver doesn't support OpenGL). The best option to play the game is 640*480 with Thousands of Colors in order to make the game run faster. There is no sound either.

Deathground

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Zooming up seems to be quite slow. Other than that, it appears to work OK.

Deimos Rising (Version 1.0.6)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM - Input Sprockets glitches out when trying to input the controls. In order to escape from the controls section, you just press the 'Enter / Return' key. There also seems to be some weird sound effects delay. Scoring seems go slow. Hangs occur here and there. Despite those problems, it runs pretty good and smoothly, which actually surprising considering this was made in 2001.

Descent

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM - Fluid, even at the highest settings. But it will hang occasionally. It unhangs after a few seconds, thankfully.

Descent II

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM - Only what appears to be mild slowdowns appear in the game at the highest settings. Otherwise, it seems to run pretty smoothly.

DGen 1.1.7

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM - It boots and emulation does work, with some issues with the sound and some slowdown. (Only Sonic The Hedgehog (Rev. 01) and Flicky are confirmed to work so far)

Diablo Spawn 1.0.8 (DEMO)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM - It runs here quite well.

Director 6

(Basilisk II)
w/ Unknwown ROM - No sound.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Crashes due to not emulating the twi opcode.

Dirt Bike 3.1

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It runs just fine, except for one permanent freeze I somehow encountered.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Hangs are somewhat common here, making gameplay stutter a bit. Also, the game goes really slow if the display is more than 256 colors.

Dirt Bike 3D Carbon 1.9

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It won't boot up on slower computers (you need something like an Intel Core i7 to run it), but it goes so slow that it's almost pointless to attempt to play it.

Disk Copy 6.5b13

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM – It theoretically only runs under Mac OS 9.1 and above. However, by changing the version numbers of the System, Finder, and System Resources files to match those of 9.1, the program will run. I haven’t tested out Disk Copy’s .dmg compatibilities yet. A fair warning though; you will risk the compatibility of MANY applications (They will ask for DebugLib – which as far as I’m concerned, there’s no download).

DOOM

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It has these weird MIDI issues, which cause stuttering and speeding up in the music especially in Level 1 in the 1st Episode. If it pisses you off to no end, you can turn it off. You can also use Quicktime 2.5. Otherwise, everything is OK.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Same issues as before.

DOOM II

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It doesn't run in Basilisk II, since that's an emulator of 68K machines and the levels might have run too slow. There's some odd sound issue, in which SFX usually are either don't play or are delayed. Also, at times, it speeds up too much. Other than those, there appears to be no issues.

Dome Wars 1.2b1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works fine here. Sound might have a bit of difficulty working though.

Double

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It works perfectly fine. This doesn't work in Basilisk II, because this application only runs on PPC computers.

Dragthing 4.0.2-IS

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It ran, but since the program is in Swedish, I am completely clueless how this works.

Dragthing 4.6.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – For whatever reason, support for Mac OS 8.6 was stripped. This left me running Mac OS 9.0.4, with CarbonLib 1.6.1. It did run fortunately. However, when you close a file opened via Dragthing, an error occurs and the program freaks out.

Draughts Deluxe (a.k.a. Checkers Deluxe) (Freeverse)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It runs fine in Sheepshaver. The game isn't on sale anymore, but you can still download it through Archive.org.

Dreamweaver 2 Demo

(SheepShaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It works fine.

Dreamweaver 4 Demo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It also works fine.

Duke Nukem 3D (68K version)

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - No networking since AppleTalk is off. Duke runs slowly, but the frame rate is pretty good. I recommend you hold down the shift key the entire time since Duke runs so slow. Sound shortouts might occur. Otherwise, it's pretty good.

(Executor)
It crashes right after playing the opening movie.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It runs SO SLOW, even on the lowest setting! It also hangs every once in a while.

Duke Nukem 3D (PPC version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It runs decently under Medium Quality mode. However, it hangs frequently on lower end computers, which can be quite annoying.

DX Ball

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Yes, they made a Mac version. Both the Classic and OS X versions ran in Sheepshaver just fine. Too bad it’s not being supported anymore since Corperstone Games is out of business. (And yes, it’s better than the original Windows version) Also, I should point out that the OS X version ran better than the Classic version for some reason.

E

Eric's Ultimate Solitaire

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - It does not keep track of wins! (Still keeps track of losses, though)

Eric's Software Sampler

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Runs fine-ish.

(QEMU)
w/ New World Mac - Requires a custom build that can boot up in 256 colors properly.

Erotomania

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Runs WAY too fast at the beginning. Starting it on anything but 256 colors causes corrupt graphics and the program freezes.

Escape Velocity

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - There doesn't seem to be any problems, but then again, I've only used it for 5 minutes.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It's alright, except for the fact that the main menu's response is sluggish.

Escape Velocity Override

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Once again, there doesn't seem to be any problem. Though once again, I've only used it for 5 minutes.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Since it's based off the same engine as the original, the exact same issue in the main menu occurs. It's otherwise OK.

Escape Velocity Nova

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It only runs in Sheepshaver builds built on March 23, 2012 and newer, due to the gamma fading code. However, the main menu does not render correctly, as buttons do not appear (key shortcuts still work, though).

Exile

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – I see no real issues here as everything seems to be running fine and even the music plays

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Seems to work quite well. The bad news is you have to use the apple/option key and then click in order to search through more than one object. And since that key is mapped to the windows key, it's going to open up the start menu.
w/ New World ROM - Same as the above.

Exile III: Ruined World

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 950 ROM - Runs perfectly fine.

(SheepShaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Crashes the emulator on start. (yet Exile I-II as well as Blades of Exile all work fine?) (TO DO: Check out if it does run)
w/ New World ROM - Same as with OWR.

Evolutionary War 1.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It will run, but you have to raise the application's memory to at least 24 MB to make it work. Also, starting it up a second time will cause Sheepshaver to reset.

F

F/A-18 Hornet 3.0 Demo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The game seems to work, but it is a bit buggy.

Factory The Industrial Devolution

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 950 ROM - Didn't work. (bomb, I think)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Worked with 68k translator on, and rather well! Only problem is some parts didn't refresh without clicking on them.

Fallout Demo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - The mouse cursor is so oversensitive it's not even funny, unless you want to do ever-so-slight movements with your mouse.

Ferazel's Wand

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - As with Escape Velocity Nova, it only runs in Sheepshaver builds built on March 23, 2012 and newer, due to the gamma fading code. However, the main menu does not render correctly, as buttons do not appear (key shortcuts still work, though).

Filler 2.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It seems to work fine.

Firefall Arcade (Inline SW Version)

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Nothing to complain about here really, other than the really annoying bug involving the mouse - you click on 'high scores' and you are sent back to the menu (unless you are really quick). However, if you do the same thing as in Apeiron, the bug should be fixed.

(Executor)
It does run, but really slowly.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works fine, but using the keyboard is much easier to use while playing the game.

Firefall Arcade (Pangea SW Version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Runs perfectly, for the most part. I recommend you use the keyboard, as it's much easier to control during gameplay.

Flight Unlimited

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Mouse control seems to be a little loose. Also, the game seems to quite slow.

Frac PPC

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It might cause a Type 12 error when first booting up, but restarting it solves the problem. It works fine otherwise.

Frodo / MacOS 4.2.2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It boots up and runs with emulation working fine apparently, however, I'm not sure if anything will run on it.

Full Throttle (by Lucas Arts)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Absolutely unplayable, since it just doesn't process fast enough.

Full Tilt! Pinball

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Loading takes a while, usually about 30 seconds to begin a game.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Sound seems to kind of skip around. Also, the opening movie doesn't play.

Future Cop: LAPD

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Yes, a 3D game actually RAN! It runs at a playable speed with all the effects turned on. However, the annoying thing is that it resizes the screen to 640*480 when playing the game. Also, InputSprocket won't let you change the controls for some reason. Just hit the return key to go back. The annoying thing is that when you press the windows key on the board(equivalent to the Apple key on the Mac) just to fire one of the weapons, the start menu in Windows pops up.(WHY?!) You could press the apple key again to resume, but that's just annoying due to some odd delay. And since Sheepshaver doesn't support 3D hardware rendering any way whatsoever, you are left with a game running on software-rendering mode. Lastly, as usual, there are times when the game hangs unexpectedly (they aren't too bad). (tl;dr… Future Cop: LAPD works, but it's filled with many annoying quirks)

G

Galatic Core

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Seems to work fine. However, starting it up more than once can be problematic.

Geneforge 1.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Hangs can occur on occasion when using a slow computer. But otherwise, it seems to be A-OK.

Geneforge 2 1.0.2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Seems to work just fine.

Geneforge 3 1.0.3

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - When you launch some applications before loading up this one, the program crashes with a type 3 error and is resolved by restarting. However, it seems to work fine otherwise.

Gerbils!

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – Indeed, it does run at the highest settings. The framerate can be quite jerky. Sounds do stutter a little.
w/ New World ROM – Runs fine. Locks up when you select 3D Color Mode, though. Ground shading looks a little off but it's been too long since I fiddled with it on a real Mac so I don't know. All the other options seem to work though.

Giko Ball (Mac OS 9 Version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – It runs just fine here, except when booting it a second time, a system error pops up – making you restart Sheepshaver.

Glider 4.0

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - Interestingly, the “PowerPC” version has sound, and runs in Basilisk. Version 4.1 does not seem to work however (in terms of sound), nor does the older version designed for 68k Macs.
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - You need to change the monitor display so it runs in 16 colors. The game runs perfectly fine.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - You need to run Glider 4.0.9 in order for the game to run. The game runs perfectly fine, but there is a dialog box asking to switch to B&W or 16 colors.

Glider Pro (Mac OS Classic Version)

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - Seems to work, but the QuickTime feature is untested (if it works at all)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It does work quite great, besides the usual stalling every once in a while. I recommend you go into the options menu and make the music play on when just being idle.

GLTron

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It does run in Sheepshaver, but goes incredibly slow and the key response is sluggish. The best thing to do is to shrink the resolution to 320*240 in order to get a playable framerate. Also, booting it up more than once causes a Type 3 error and restarting causes Sheepshaver to remain on a pitch black screen.

GraphicConverter Classic 5.9.5

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM - Perfect - Everything runs perfectly.

H

Harry the Handsome Executive

(General)
By default, one of the control uses the Option key, so be sure to remap that so it doesn't interfere with the Start menu if you have a Windows computer.

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - MIDIs have issues playing, likely due to sound buffering issues, resulting in very bizarre sound…just download Quicktime 2.5 or turn off the music if this drives you insane. Otherwise, there are no issues here.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Quicktime seems to have very odd quirks playing MIDIs under Sheepshaver. Again, if it pisses you off to no end, turn the music off or download Quicktime 2.5 to resolve any music issues. Other than that, I don't see any issues here.

Havoc

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - The game runs fine with Software Rendering, but cannot function with Hardware Rendering. When entering the keyboard screen, the key being selected will sometimes automatically be assigned to the Q key for no apparent reason. This can be resolved by not using the raw keycodes. The game appears to run quite fast and has no real problems otherwise.

Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The opening movie (somewhat sluggish though) plays and the menu seems to be responsive. The game is OK as far as I'm concerned, though the game seems to be quite choppy and loading times may take up some time.

Hexen

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Music doesn't seem to work sometimes when beginning the game. This can be resolved by raising the number of sound channels. Otherwise, it's OK.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Music doesn't seem to work sometimes when beginning the game. This can be resolved by raising the number of sound channels. Hangs can also occur. Everything else seems to be okay.

HexEdit 2.00

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Works fine, except that quitting out is difficult and often means you need to restart Basilisk II.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It appears to work fine, except for the fact that it has difficulties quitting out and often means you have to restart Sheepshaver.

Holodeck Swabbie

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Some colors are incorrect in pre-2013 builds of Sheepshaver (see comparison shot, SS on left, real on right) but runs OK otherwise. Changing the color depth didn't help.

Hoyle Board Games Demo (1998 version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – It seems to run just fine, though it seems to have lagging issues.

Hoyle Card Games Demo (1998 version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – It runs just like the Board Games Demo, although I recommend you don’t open up any other applications before this one.

Hoyle Games Demo (2003 version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Loading a game takes about 10 seconds and can hang (for a few seconds) at times. It seems to be a little choppy.

I

Iggy's Adventure

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Seems to work perfectly. To turn on the sound, simply click on the Preferences and check Sound. Return to the main menu and you'll be able to enjoy the full experience. =)

I Love Native

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Seems to work perfctly normal.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Seems to work just perfectly.

Infopedia 2.0 Mac Edition

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The Tour guide crashes, but the actual dictionary runs. The media also runs, though a little slow.

Ircle 3.1.2 PPC

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works Fine

iTarget

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It might crash when you first play the game, but it seems to work quite fine otherwise.

iText 3.1.6E

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works Fine (and has iMac colors for the GUI)

iTunes 1.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – If you change the version numbers of the System, Finder, and System Resources files to match those of OS 9.0, you’ll find that it runs real nicely in OS 8.6. You’ll need to place it in a new folder within your HD titled “Documents”. There is a side effect where many applications will request DebugLib, much like Disk Copy 6.5b13. There is a patch out there that makes iTunes work with 8.6, but I don’t know where to download that.

iTunes 2.0.4

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – This also works in Sheepshaver, albeit only with OS 9.0.4.

iView Multimedia 3.8.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works Fine

J

Jared (Classic)

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Works perfectly fine.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Yes, Jared. It runs fine and his voice is still annoying.

Jewel of Arabia 1.6

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It seems to work fine.

K

Keibot

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It seems to work fine. However, when launching the application more than once, a type 3 error may occur.

Killing Time 1.0.2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Aside from an occasional hang, it seems to work just fine. And no, this does not run on any 68k machines.

Koji the Frog

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It's okay besides the slight hang that occurs, plus some sound issues occur here and there.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Aside from sound skipping problems, it works fine.

L

Lemmings 1.4.2a

(Mini vMac)
w/ Mac Classic ROM – Seems to work fine.

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – Sounds work OK, a bit more crackly-sounding than original.

(Executor)
Seems to run fine, sans a few slow-downs

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Same as Basilisk II, except now the cursor is black however, making progress difficult. Some users have reported that replacing it with a white cursor in ResEdit will make it work again.

Lightway Text 4.1.7E

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It appears to be fine.

Lightway Text 4.5.1E

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It also works fine.

Logic Platnium 4.6.3

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - In order to run this program, you need a dongle emulator. It seems to work, but there is no MIDI output or input of any sort.

Lunar Siege 3D

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Due to the game's 3D nature (which runs on OpenGL), it goes way too slow to be playable.

M

MacBochs 2.1.1 (February 2004)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It seems to work, with an apparent lack of floppy, CD, and even mouse support for some reason. I got the Linux test image that came with it booting up, but it seems to get stuck (or at the very least, going too slow).

MacDO

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - There's some sort of MIDI Playing Issue. Data loads slowly, especially when transitioning between levels.

Macloned

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – It runs, but it goes really slow even with over 256 Megs assigned to it. It also only works with software rendering.

MacMoorhuhn

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It would run perfectly here, other than the slightly annoying fact that your cursor can move off the edge of the screen and the cursor can be off during gameplay. Oh yeah, it hangs occasionally too.
w/ New World ROM - UNTESTED!

MacPing Pro 3.0.4

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Fine, but don't have AppleTalk network to test

MacPipes 2.2.7

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Weird, it appears that the sound effects are somewhat muted, yet you can hear it at the same time (must be the game though). Otherwise, it's perfect.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Same thing here.

MacPuyo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Music can get interrupted. Seems to work very nicely otherwise.

MacSSH 2.1fc3

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Fine but connection window instantly closes after typing user and password

MacUptime

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It works fine

Maelstrom (all versions)

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - This might run a little too fast, but runs nicely anyway.

(Executor)
It runs quite slowly to say the least, even with the Turbofunk cheat on.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The game seems to work perfectly, although it’s a little slow. Turbofunk goes a little slow in the September 17th build.

(QEMU)
w/ Mac OS 9.2 – It can run, but appears to have a bit of controls difficulty.

Maniac 2.1

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Occasional stalling and random sound short-outs. The volume number was glitched in one case. The main problem is that it can go too freaking fast.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – There is a really bad habit of randomly crashing, and will cause the system error screen to pop up (very often). The music also has a hissy noise during gameplay. There are even times when the gameplay can speed up too much.

Marathon 1.4.2

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It works perfectly.

(Executor)
You can’t turn on the background music (or the stereo option). In order for the game to run near a playable speed, you have to turn off the textures for the ceilings and the floors. Plus, the controls aren't functioning correctly.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It works perfectly, though for higher color modes raise the memory up to at least 16 MB.

Marathon II

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It works perfectly.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It works just fine, though for higher color modes raise the memory up to at least 16 MB. Response times are a bit slow and may hang.

Marathon Infinity

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It works just as well as Marathon II.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It's more or less the same as Marathon II.

Marbles Deluxe (Demo) (Old Version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - This game was designed for Mac OS X 10.2. However, the surprising part was that the game actually booted up on Mac OS 9. However, the graphics were garbled and the game was more or less unplayable. Interesting…

Mars Rising

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - InputSprocket is quite buggy, so I recommend you just ignore the Controls section. Also, when you ground fire with the apple key, it opens up the windows start menu. You could always press the 'apple key' again to resume gameplay. The problem is that it takes a few seconds long to actually get back to gameplay - really annoying.

Mazeball 1.0.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - It appears to run perfectly.

Meshwork 2.0.1 Classic

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Appears to work perfectly fine, but can feel quite sluggish even on high end computers.

Mighty Mike

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Might cause some odd glitch in the Finder where it seems like you can't really click on the icons to start up anything. Also, sound seems to skip. Otherwise, it appears to be OK.

Mission Volcanor 0.62

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It goes way too slow to be playable.

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - iMuse tends to have a few problems (skips notes, uneven speed, and ending incorrectly) but otherwise playable. Turning down the music quality to “Good” (from “Best”).

MozPong 1.0.5

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – Aside from slowing down on one occasion, it runs very well.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Aside from an occasional hang, it runs just fine.

MozSlot

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works fairly well. But then again, the game is fairly simple.

Munchies 1.0.7

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – There were speed issues at first, but they seemed to go away.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It seems to work fine, until after about a few minutes of playing, when Sheepshaver randomly crashes/quits.

Myth: The Fallen Lords (Demo)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – It does boot and run seemingly well, albeit in software rendering mode.

N

Netscape 7.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM - In one word: Perfect. Everything runs perfectly. And with Flash 7, you can even watch Youtube movies.

NS-Shaft 1.2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works fine here.

NS-Tower 2.5

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Works fine here too.

O

Odyssey: The Legend of Nemesis

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It runs fine here.

Oids 2.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - This works fine in Sheepshaver, but it seems a bit too fast. Also, the game is quite erratic when you want to boot it up.

Out of this World

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – 1.0.3 runs just fine, although it’s a bit too fast.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM – Version 1.0.2 runs alright, with absolutely no errors whatsoever. 1.0.3, however, crashes and/or freezes Sheepshaver.

P

Pac the Man

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It runs decently, but has some odd music problems which I think have to do with Quicktime. Also, the background screws itself up once unpausing or after you've played it once (and you play again).

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Same as Basilisk II, other than the fact that the background doesn't screw itself up. Oh, and there's a brief pause before beginning a level.

Pac the Man 2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Pac the Man 2 isn't compatible with Basilisk II, due to the fact that Basilisk II doesn't support PPC-specific coding. It takes a while to load the title screen when beginning for the first time. The about box is missing something, as indicated by a HUGE SPACE (which is where the logo is supposed to). The same things goes with when you're entering your name into the high scores table. The levels also take some time to load. Other than that, it appears to work out alright.

Payback (demo; version 1.0)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - The demo is best run with Quickdraw with Goraud Shading off. You can run this with OpenGL, but it runs very slowly, takes multiple clicks to actually respond, and the textures are also missing. Trying to start the game up in more than once in a session causes the OS to bomb.

Particle Man

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - The game boots up, but instantly crashes Sheepshaver when you click on the menu if you are on a setting higher than 256 colors. Also, sometimes starting it up more than once each session causes a type 3 error.

PDFWriter 3.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/New World ROM - It seems to work just fine.

PixelToy 1.00

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It seems to work perfectly fine, except for the pixels that can get stuck on the very top and bottom of the screen.

Pocket Tanks v. 1.00b Mac

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – Opening music skips a lot and there is a noticeable lag, plus it freezes time to time. There is a newer version out there, but it only supports Mac OS 10.3.9 and above.

Poing! 1.1

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Sound short-outs occur for some reason.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Seems to work quite well.

Power Pete

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It runs just a little too slow for me.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Sometimes, it runs way too fast to be playable. The game seems to be OK otherwise.

Prince of Destruction

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Volume level bar doesn't appear to work at all in the options menu. Other than that, It's OK.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Volume level bar doesn't appear to work at all in the options menu. Speech seems to be quite buggy. But it seems to work OK otherwise, besides that annoying apple key thing.

Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and The Flame

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM (?) - Runs alright, but the music is too slow.

Print66

Works great.

Q

Quagmire (1993)

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It works perfectly.

(Executor)
It seems to go quite slowly.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It appears to be OK, aside from the sound skipping issue easily noticeable when moving.

Quake

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It has a somewhat playable frame rate and runs very well with a fast processor. Sound, on the other hand, lags, echoes, and in general, it's TERRIBLE! If this occurs, I heavily recommend you turn the sound off.

Quelle

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It appears to work fine, albeit only the keypad seems to work.

R

Railroad Tycoon II

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The program goes awfully slow, presumably because of the 3D graphics it utilizes. Set the graphics settings to 'Very Low' and game might run faster.

Rainbow Painter 0.91

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Using the pen causes Sheepshaver to freeze.

Rainbow Painter 2 (Demo)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – There are many random crashes and freezes, even for doing simple tasks.

Raptor: Air Superiority Fighter

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The game boots up, but the loading takes an extremely long time. And it goes so slow, even in the rather basic menu, it’s basically unplayable.

Reckless Drivin’ 1.4.4

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – The gameplay seems to be alright. But when you go into the options menu (and try to get out of it) or quit the game, this error shows up:

A fatal error has occurred!!
-227 @ SetSystemVolume”

Despite having an “exit” button, it only ends up opening the same error message over and over again, leaving you no choice but to open up Task Manager or literally turn the switch off.

Resorcerer 2.4.1 Demo

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Seems to work fairly decently

Rival Ball

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The gameplay is near perfect, since it might hang for a few seconds and unhang…which can be annoying. Also, the cursor seems to glitch out somewhat.

Rogue

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - Locks up and crashes Basilisk, even when in black and white mode. Given the System file with the game folder, it probably doesn't like MultiFinder or System 7.

Royal Rush

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 950 ROM - It appears to work just fine.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Fluid, yet at the same time, ridiculously sluggish. Sound also skips for some reason.

S

Same Game 1.0.8

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Works perfectly fine here.

(Executor)
The “Rests” and “Gets” counters are screwed up for some reason.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It runs a little slow and sound does seem to skip a bit.

SerieFoot 1.0.9

w/ New World ROM - It boots up, but I’m not sure if it works. Since the files needed to play the game aren’t included, go to this address to download them:
http://seriefoot.free.fr/eng/download.html

Settlers II

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - I could not get this to run at all.

Shadow Warrior

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Runs decently even at High Quality. The bad news: IT CAN HANG QUITE FREQUENTLY!

Shadow Wraith

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Runs, but will crash after unpausing or using the cheat dialog.

(SheepShaver)
w/ Old World ROM - same as BII.
w/ New World ROM - Fatal Error - Not Enough Memory.

Shogo Mobile Armor Division

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It goes very slowly, but it runs. It also feels like you have to press the keys multiple times and rapidly in order to even get through the menu (unless you play the game at an ultra-low 320*240 resolution). The actual game runs quite slow (even if you play the game at an ultra-low 320*240 resolution, it goes about 10 frames per second). And lastly, in order to get the game running, you have to turn on the software renderer. Otherwise, if you use either of the OpenGL rendering engines, Sheepshaver crashes.

SimAnt

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM *Works great. Loaded it up from a CD and copied the folder. Sound is perfect, everything functions as it used to. I would rate this a Gold in the Compatibility scoring. It asks you if you want to switch to 16 colors for a speed increase, but at the age it is it doesn't matter and is quite speedy none the less. *No problems here. Needs 68k emulator. - 100%

SimCity 2000

(Mini vMac)
w/ Mac II ROM - Requires a build that can support color, the 640*480 resooution, and uses a 68030 processor.

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Seems to be OK. It might get a little slow when zooming into the city.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Appears to be fine, but hangs will occur quite commonly. There are also some flickering problems when running SheepShaver full screen.

(QEMU)
w/ New World ROM - Appears to be fine, but hangs will occur quite commonly. There are also some flickering problems when running SheepShaver full screen.

SimFarm

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - No problems here. May need 68k emulator.

SimpleText

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It obviously runs perfectly.

(Executor)
Crashes because this relies on an actual Mac ROM and Executor didn't bother emulating this part of the Mac ROM.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Unsurprisingly, it works.
w/ New World ROM - Work just fine here too.

SimStapler 6.2

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Works just fine.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Same here. =P

SimTower

w/ New World ROM - No problems here. May need 68k emulator. - 100%

Slick Willie III 0.6

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - The sound can glitch out quite often and lag can occur.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The mouse sensitivity is too high for the game to be playable and it can cause quite a number of problems, including crashing Sheepshaver.

Slime Invaders 2.0.7

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It runs, but the sound spaces out and hangs at times.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It works, but when you quit out, relaunching the application brings up a type -3 error.

Slithereens 1.0.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - As with Escape Velocity Nova and Ferazel's Wand, it only runs in Sheepshaver builds built on March 23, 2012 and newer, due to the gamma fading code. Pressing Escape can sometimes freeze Sheepshaver, and Input Sprockets is a bit dysfunctional.

Sloppy Sokoban 1.7

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It boots up just fine. The graphics in the controls section of the option menu are screwed up so badly, it’s not even funny. Sometimes, the audio also gets a little screwy. Hangs may also occur.

Snapz Pro 2.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It works more or less like it should.

Snood 2.1.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – It goes quite fast, perhaps a little too fast.

SoftPC 3.1

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It runs, but if you want to run it, turn off the 68040’s caches first. Otherwise, the emulation won’t work.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The FPU does not work AT ALL.

SoftWindows 3.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ OldWorld ROM - It’s a PPC-only program, so it doesn’t run in Basilisk II. DOS seems to run fine, but booting up Windows will cause Sheepshaver to crash.

Solarian II (1.0.4)

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Sound can short out quite a bit, but it's otherwise A-OK.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Sound glitches out and hangs also occur occasionally.

Son of Cheese Toast

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - The lives counter is stuck at two. Otherwise, it works fine.

SoundApp 2.7.3

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - UNTESTED
w/ New World ROM – It runs perfectly.

Souls in the System

(Sheepshaver) w/ Old World ROM - Appears to be rather erratic. The opening movie doesn't display any visuals for some reason. You have to use the compatible graphics mode in order to run the game. In addition, when hitting the escape key twice, the countdown sequence goes by and Sheepshaver freezes. The game also has a type 3 error when you quit out of the game and boot it up again.

Space Junkie

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – No problems here. May need 68k emulator. - 100%

Spaceward Ho! 5

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The intro music is very skippy at, resuming to normal at times. It runs, but is quite slow.

Spaceway 2000

(Basilisk II)
Quadra 650 ROM - Runs perfectly once you raise the memory to about 8 MB.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Once you raised the memory to at least 10 MB, the game should run this game. It will hang quite commonly, but will often un-hang after ten seconds.

Spectre

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The simple graphics are dithered (in color), which I don't recall them originally being. Around Level 5, I got turned around and the controls locked in a direction that made it difficult to turn (twisted in instead of dropped in). This happened on previous attempts when playing as well, maybe by touching keys, but I don't remember doing so. I think Basilisk had the same problems.

SpeedRun

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The simple graphics are dithered (in color), which I don't recall them originally being. Around Level 5, I got turned around and the controls locked in a direction that made it difficult to turn (twisted in instead of dropped in). This happened on previous attempts when playing as well, maybe by touching keys, but I don't remember doing so. I think Basilisk had the same problems.

SpeedRun

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It runs quite well and you can get fairly high scores (i.e. the Overall score being 1283).

Spin Doctor Challenger

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra ROM – Sound space-out issues occur through out the game. If this happens, raise the memory for it to at least 4 MB.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – It works fine, but when you quit the game, the finder bar magically vanishes for a few minutes.

Squabble 1.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – It start up and plays just fine here! It does hang a bit unfortunately.

Starbound II

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Might freeze and stutter occasionally. Sound might be buggy at times. But it's otherwise great.

Starcraft (DEMO)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - This would be a PPC-only program, making Basilisk II completely incompatible with it. The game can run, but in order to play the game, keep the “Multi-Button Mouse” option off. Hangs can occur quite frequently, but usually lasts 2 to 10 seconds. Also, graphic corruption can happen.

Steel Fighters 1.3.2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It took me three tries to get this running perfectly, but it ran anyway.

Stereodrome

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It seems to work fine, sans the annoying sound playing over and over again.

Stuff-it Standard 7.0.3

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - It works quite well in Sheepshaver. However, I have yet to test out any of the extensions it might have.

Suitcase 3.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Seems to work fine.

Super DX-Ball 1.0.0b

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – Note that this is an OLD version of Super DX-Ball that works with 8.6 to 10.2. Newer versions don’t work at all with systems below 10.3.9. There is no audio and the game lags a little, but that might be because of file corruption (for whatever reason, I don’t know). Loading also takes a few seconds.

Super Maze Wars

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Good, but runs too fast, may need to be throttled via another extension - 85%

Super Munchers

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Seems to run okay barring a few odd crashes. - 90%

Super Resedit 2.9

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It runs perfectly, with no slowdown.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – The sound doesn’t work and it might be very slow at times, especially with Forker. But it's otherwise decent.

Swoop 1.0.2

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Runs perfectly, but it runs so fast during gameplay.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Has an occasional problem where the 'Register to' thread appears corrupt. The games runs perfectly otherwise, but goes way too fast during gameplay. It might slow down, but that's only temporary. Scoring also seems to be slow.

T

TechnoManiac 1.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Appears to work somewhat decently. There is jumpy intro music and the keys being assigned to the Q key for no reason (just use the default controls). The controls also feel awkward when using the mouse. Plus, half of the time, the intro animation is skipped.

Tesserae 1.0.4

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It has instabilities that can causes crashes when you run it on an OS newer 7.5 (ex.: when selecting tournament mode), but it seems to work fine otherwise.

The Incredible Machine 3

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – Complains about not being able to create a ‘Sierra’ folder, but it runs anyway. It works perfectly fine here.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It complains about not being able to create a ‘Sierra’ folder again, but it runs anyway. The game itself runs seemingly fine. Hangs may occur.

Tetris Max

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - It appears to work perfectly fine.

The Sims

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM - Perfect, except the framerate lags a bit. Both Carbon and normal executables run.

TNT Basic

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The compiler and some of it's demos run, but I recommend you NOT use OpenGL in the games, as games made with OpenGL crash Sheepshaver. Once again, this only runs in Sheepshaver (though it might run in PearPC, I haven't tested it there).

Toggle Trouble Math

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Runs okay (if fast) when not crashing. - 80%

Tomb Raider (Demo)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It took me forever to get this son of a bitch to run, but I managed to do so. The game works fine with software rendering on 16-bit color, with high detail. Unfortunately, you can’t run it under the RAVE rendering mode, since it causes type -7 error.

Tomb Raider I

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM: UNTESTED!
w/ New World ROM: Runs fine in Software mode, other modes are disabled. The framerate is ok.

Tomb Raider II

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM: It seems to run fine, but you can only run the game in software rendering mode. Quitting the game and starting up again causes an error, making Sheepshaver reset.

Tristan IE 2.5.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The game runs, but it appears changing the controls doesn't work properly.

TRON-ish 1.4

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM – It boots, but in order to play the game without crashing, you need to turn off your 040’s caches.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – It simple runs (and it’s pretty basic anyway).

Troggle Trouble Math

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – Runs okay (if fast) when not crashing. It's likely unstable due to it doing specific memory addressing. - 80%

U

Ultima III 1.3

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Seems to work here, though sound might be bonked out occasionally.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Seems to go quite fast, but it works really well. However, sometimes when quitting a game, the menu bar disappears, but it will reappear sooner or later.

Ultima III 1.4.2

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Hangs might occur for about a few seconds. Sound could glitch at specific times.

Ultimate Pool

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Mouse control is really wonky and when shooting your ball, it causes the game to lag like crazy.

Ultris

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Music skips around a bit and loading seems to take a LONG TIME.

V

Vette

(Basilisk II)
w/ Performa ROM - For the color version, garbled graphics and no sound. Wholly unplayable. Black and white seems to run okay, but I don't know how to use the controls.

Virtual Composer (FAT Version)

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Appears to work fine.

Virtual Drummer

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Appears to work fine here too.

Virtual Pool

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Virtual Pool can't run in Baslisk II (which is a 68K emulator) for some odd reason. I don't understand why, since the visuals look so simplistic. It runs, but the mouse controls seem like they are so bonked out it makes the game so unplayable…or is it just me…

Virtual Viagra

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - It runs decently, but it's a pretty simple program anyhow.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Gives the bomb.

Virtual Wings

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - The game can run, but you need to follow this in order to get it booted:
1) Open up “SheepShaverGUI”
2) Go to the graphics/sound section and raise the resolution to 1024*768 (or higher)
3) Click “Start”. Don't be alarmed if Sheepshaver's boot screen is shrunk down to 800*600!
4) Go under “Monitors & Sound” under the Controls Panels section and select “1024*768 (Insert Refresh Rate here)”.
5) Once you've done that, boot up Virtual Wings.

The game has glitched out 3D Hardware rendering, but it seems OK otherwise (could be wrong though).

W

Weekend Warrior

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM – The opening logo for Pangea runs fairly smoothly. However, the actual game has a lot of slowdown issues and response is incredibly sluggish (usually requiring multiple button presses) unless you run Sheepshaver on fast computer (like an Intel Core i7). The only suggestion I have at the moment is to reduce the depth to 256 colors and raise the memory. Oh, and a cheat code, hold down the F12 key during the coconut moving part of the stage selection screen (when you first walk in). Also, make sure you turn the keycodes off.

Winamp for Mac 0.71

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - The program seems to play back .mp3s back just fine.

WordPerfect 3.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Seems to work just fine.

Wolfenstein 3D

(Mini vMac)
w/ Mac II ROM - It runs, but it frequently causes instability due to bad FPU emulation, causing a system error or an emulator freeze.

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Same as Mini vMac.
w/ Quadra 900 ROM - Same as Mini vMac.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Appears to be A-OK, aside from some hanging issues. Just make sure “Speed Governor” on, unless you want to try and beat the game that way - which I heavily recommend you NOT do. ;)

(QEMU)
w/ Mac OS 9.2 - It needs a bios that can support 256 color support. Even then, it causes frequent operating system crashes in QEMU.

X

X-Ball 1.2.1

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Sound seems to be a bit laggy.

X-Plane 5.66

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - The game will run, but it will go slow as hell because OpenGL acceleration is not supported in Sheepshaver (the fastest it goes is 1 frame per 3 seconds, which is VERY slow). Loading will also be quite slow. Multiple key presses might be useful to get through the menus, but is literally useless in gameplay unless you do it really fast. It is more or less unplayable.

X-Wing

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - Runs slowly, no matter what… It's OK otherwise.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Runs slowly, but otherwise appears to be OK.

Y

Yacht 3D

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - This program will only run on PowerPC processors, so Basilisk II can't run it. It does work in Sheepshaver and the 3D doesn't seem to have a problem (probably because the dice are rendered by the software).

Yoot Tower

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Good, but sounds a bit choppy on pre-2013 versions. It's not on 68k so I didn't bother trying on Basilisk. The movies don't have audio (again, QT problems).

Z

ZD MacBench 5.0

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - For whatever reason, typing in the Name and Organization boxes doesn't work when using the raw keycodes. Instead, you have to copy some text from the Host OS and paste it into the boxes. This flaw didn't happen in the original installer. Otherwise, it seems quite normal.

Zone of Avoidance II / Zone Warrior

(Sheepshaver)
w/ Old World ROM - Control on the camera is very wonky and stable. The game can also go too fast.

Zoombinis: Island Odyssey

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM – The movies are very choppy and freeze quite often, with the sound cutting out frequently. The game does run, though the framerate is a bit questionable. Hangs are not uncommon. And no, this will not run in any 68k emulator as this application was designed for PPC Macs.

Zoop

(Basilisk II)
w/ Quadra 650 ROM - No problems occur here other than some music stalling.

(Executor)
The game seems to run very slowly and the colors are distorted.

(Sheepshaver)
w/ New World ROM - Hangs might occur, but very rarely you'll come across them.

Incompatible Applications

10-Key Racing

The game will boot up, but you can't the game to play at all because the actual game come to a halt before anything happens.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0.5

The installer comes to a halt when trying install the SVG Plug-in and you don't have the option to not install it. I have no idea why.

FIXME If anyone can find a workaround, please inform me and you will be given credit.

Allenrods

Hangs for a few seconds while loading, then crashes Sheepshaver probably because it uses OpenGL.

Astrosquid

Hangs for a few seconds on a black screen and crashes (because it needs OpenGL).

Audacity 1.0.0

It just brings up an error message saying,

“The application “Audacity” could not be
opened because “Textension” could not be
found.”

Black Shades

It complained a lot, resulting in me searching for LibMoto, then StdCLib, then InterfaceLib… - I gave up in the end. XP Is it just me or do I find it inexcusable that a user has to find all these (and probably much more) just to run it (unless you have a copy of Mac OS 9)?

Blobs 3.1.1

Causes a Microsoft Visual C++ error, crashing Sheepshaver. (Might be because of OpenGL though)

BOOM 1.6.2

The game requires Mac OS 9.1, but by editing the version numbers of the Finder, System, and System Resources files via Resedit (to 9.1 through 9.2.2), the game might run. However, I have not tested this yet.

Bub & Bob 2 0.981

Has a complaint about jump.snd, which I initially thought had to do with the fact that the file was missing. But that wasn't it, and I have no clue what's causing the game not to load. There's some odd unknown error involving the file, which has confused me quite a bit. It seems like the game can't run.

Bugdom (any version)

It requires Quickdraw 3D 1.6 or newer, which Sheepshaver doesn’t support.

Burning Monkey Solitaire (2005 version)

It crashes Sheepshaver, with a Microsoft Visual C++ error.

C.Dev Boogle 4.2

Crashes in Sheepshaver and no error popped up. XP

Carmageddon (demo)

Unplayable, since it freezes when you actually begin a new game in Sheepshaver. Only the menus and static screens will run at all, but without sound. Plus Basilisk II can't run this at all because it's PPC-only.

Christmas Chaos: Superfrog 1.6.2

The game will boot up, but it is unplayable because the game remains in a waiting state forever for no apparent reason.

Cro-Mag Rally (OS 9 version)

Since it uses OpenGL, Sheepshaver will hang when trying to run it.

Descender (any version from 1.0 to 1.4.x)

Causes a Microsoft Visual C++ error, crashing Sheepshaver. Newer versions don't run at all on the classic Mac OS.

Descent 3

The Glide version boots up, then quits with an error message because it requires a 3dfx card, which Sheepshaver doesn't support. And the OpenGL version causes Sheepshaver to hang while booting, because Sheepshaver can't support 3D hardware-rendered graphics.

Gauge PRO

It will open, but will not run.

Generator v0.3.6

It boots, but freezes the entire OS when emulation begins.

Germs 1.3.1

Same as BOOM 1.6.2

Gridz 1.5.1

This error appears: “Error Code: -9 From: MPLibraryIsLoaded not.”

Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2 Demo

Crashes Sheepshaver when trying to open it.

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Demo

When trying to open it, this appears: “The application “Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Demo” could not be opened because ”»Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Demo«“ could not be found.” This error baffles me for some reason.

iMovie 1.0.1

I couldn't get this working no matter what. The program would crash after it booted up.

Kid Pix Deluxe 3, Version 1.0

When you try to run the program, Sheepshaver immediately quits out (usually indicating that some PPC instructions it needs are not supported by Sheepshaver).

Killing Time 1.3 Carbon

An error similar to the one from the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Demo pops up and clicking on the icon a second time causes Sheepshaver to quit.

Last Call

It relies heavily on Flash. Demo locks up when opening. The demo version for this game (from MacAddict) just quit out of SheepShaver entirely.

Last Contact

When attempting to load it up, it crashes Sheepshaver.

LMTetris

It locks on a turquoise screen for a couple of seconds, and then Sheepshaver crashes.

Logic Platnium 6.3.1

It refuses to run without “VecLib”.

Macromedia FreeHand 8

Installation works fine, but it crashes at startup.

mACRoStrange

Crashes, regardless of what settings you choose.

Maelstrom 3.0.6 PPC (SDL version)

It opens for about two seconds and then quits.

Medal of Honor: Spearhead 2.1.5 Demo

It uses OpenGL and as a result, it crashes Sheepshaver.

Monsters Inc. Pinball Panic

It doesn’t seem to work properly, even with the proper system requirements.

Nanosaur 1.3.4

It requires Quickdraw 1.6 or newer in order to run.

Otto Matic

It uses OpenGL 1.2.1 and it will not run since Sheepshaver has no support for this component.

Penguin Power! 1.2

It appears to crash Sheepshaver, possibly because it uses OpenGL.

PongWars 2.0

It boots up, but actually starting a game causes Sheepshaver to lock up. The Sloppydisk logo at the beginning is completely white and menu bar is invisible.

pop-pop 1.0.4

Causes some odd hang when trying to load it up.

Quake III

It will try to boot up, but it crashes Sheepshaver in the end, possibly because the 3D graphics acceleration requires actual hardware.

RockNES v2.5.0

“The application “RockNES” could not be opened because “RockNES” could not be found.” It makes no sense whatsoever. SMS Plus v1.0.3, TGEmu v0.2.3, KiGB v1.5.2, Neopocott v0.4.4, Genesis Plus v1.2.2, ViBE v1.0b3, Boycott Advance v0.3.0, & Oswan v0.7.2 all have the same problem.

Sim Theme Park / Theme Park World

Crashes Sheepshaver a few seconds after loading it.

Star Wars Episode I Racer

Holds up for a few seconds and then quits because it needs OpenGL 1.1.2 or newer to run.

Tomb Raider III (Demo)

No matter how hard I try, it crashes at the title screen. If anyone can explain why (and/or how I can overcome this), please feel free to tell me.

Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft

It crashes with a Microsoft Visual C++ error when you run the game. The game setup (game settings setup) runs.

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation

It also crashes with a Microsoft Visual C++ error.

Thursby Software Systems DAVE 5

First activated AppleTalk acoording to the AppleTalk for SheepShaver guide. Installation and configuration of Dave work (as long as there's a running Windows machine on the network for Dave to grab the workgroup name from – else the configuration assistant crashes). But Dave can't find any actual machines or printers on the network and anything shared by Dave is not visible to other machines. So actually Dave is useless.

Triangle Trifle

Unexpectedly quits due to a type 3 error. It's been replaced by a non-Mac OS 9 compatible version.

Unreal

It crashes in Sheepshaver due to lacking support for a floating point instruction, frsqrte in this case.

Unreal Tournament "'99/2000" Mac Demo

The menu works just fine. But starting up the actual game causes a Microsoft Visual C++ error, likely for the same reason as the regular Unreal.

Vertigo

It requires Quickdraw 3D 1.6.

Waterrace

Causes Sheepshaver to CRASH.

Wingnuts

It crashes when trying to start it for some reason, regardless of what version I use. Probably because Sheepshaver lacks support for OpenGL games (Wingnuts uses the OpenGL API).

X-Ball 2.1.3

An error occurs, with the error reading:

“Sorry, an error has occurred.
Use the information below to
figure out what happened.

File name: Monitors.c
Line number: 122
Error Code: -18”

And no, changing the number of colors does not work.

You might also get this error:

“Sorry, an error has occurred.
Use the information below to
figure out what happened.

File name: main.c
Line number: 58
Error Code: -1856”

Version History

v. 0.01-pre3a2: The current version. This was written from May 3rd, 2009 to May 21st, 2009. And again, from July 1st, 2009 to August 1st, 2009. This is a rather minor revision, with error corrections and whatnot. It got converted to wiki format on May 3rd, 2010 through May 5th, 2010. Weird how time passes by. There are some results that haven't been added yet, possibly lost.

v. 0.01-pre3a1: Quite a major revamp - Written around February of 2009 to May 2nd of 2009. This was the last version in HTML. Errors also got fixed here and there as usual, plus a bit of rearrangement. So you don’t get bored reading endless pages of text, I added some of the programs’ icons. It’s also the first version to have more than just games (or somewhat-games), but most of the additions are games. Some programs also got tested in Executor (not many though). URLs have been added to the sites that are currently functioning, plus I added some sources I left out in the previous version on accident. And lastly, the compatibility sheet is not just “for games” anymore, hence the sheet is now titled “MECS: THE MAC EUMLATION COMPATIBILITY SHEET”. A few other changes here too. It's still nowhere near complete, by the way. File size: 173 KB, way more if you include the icons.

v. 0.01-pre2: The second version - Written around December 30th of 2008 to February 2nd of 2009. I converted the whole thing into HTML(edited via MS Word 2003), fixing a few errors along the way. Additional Comments have been added in some places. It’s the only version to have “THE MAC EUMLATION COMPATIBILITY SHEET FOR GAMES” that has been released. File size: I was aiming for 120 KB, but it was roughly under that by a few or so kilobytes

v. 0.01-pre1: The very first version - Written around October 11th to December 29th of 2008. At this point, it consists of nothing but games running in Basilisk II or Sheepshaver. =) It was also in a .txt file. File Size: just under 40 KB … and I typed A LOT! It was nowhere near complete. It should be noted that this was largely unreleased (and for a reason too).

THE END… FOR NOW (for now?)
