QEMU Instrux for the Complete Idiot
I'm actually not a complete idiot; I compiled xFree86 for OSX before there was a built-in X environment; I had, at one time, a Fink environment set up. But I haven't done much of it since my PowerBook G3 was my main computer. So I'm rusty and wasn't all that experienced at my peak. I want to • learn...

Desired: QEMU Step by Step for the Compleat Idiot / Newbie Beginner
I would like to run Panther (MacOS 10.3) in emulation on an Intel Mac. I've never done QEMU and I never got very far attempting PearPC. All of the QEMU guides I encounter don't seem to begin with Chapter 1. Or they assume I know stuff I don't know. Anything involving a command line should be ridicul...

Re: The Need for M1 Hosted Emulators
What do you mean with "older PPC MacOSX"? Panther, aka MacOS 10.3.8; Jaguar, aka MacOS 10.2.8 don't really care about 10.1 or 10.0 Intel virtualisation is not possible. I don't expect virtualization. Emulation would be fine. The M1 pretending to be Intel, much like VirtualPC was PowerPC p...

The Need for M1 Hosted Emulators
So if I'm going to switch to M1 ("Apple Silicon") based Macs I will need to emulate Intel Macs so as to be able to run MacOS X. That one's important. I'd be starting off in the M1 world with scarcely any software that will run there. And a need to run it. And I have invested a lot of time ...

Re: Print to file (PDF? Pict?) for Mini vMac?
Hmm... seemed like a good idea, so I installed from System Additions disk (6.0.8). But it's behaving the same way as Print2Pict 1.x: Chooser lets me select the printer, but various applications (Photoshop 1.0, SuperPaint, MacWrite 4.6) will not let me do Page Setup or Print, saying "There is no...

Print to file (PDF? Pict?) for Mini vMac?
Under System 6.0.8 / Mini vMac, I ought to be able to print to some kind of file, even though without networking cant' print to an actual printer. I think Adobe Acrobat's PDFWriter came along in the post-Sys6 world, and likewise the freeware Print to PDF, but wasn't Print2Pict available back in Syst...

Re: Sheep_net, X11 version of BasiliskII, on MacOS: How?Wher
if you have installed additional software in BasiliskII that installs files in the System Folder OK, I feel rather foolish. You'd think I'd spend enough time running System 7 natively back in the day to remember the usefulness and necessity of futzing with extensions and control panels. The virtual...

Re: Sheep_net, X11 version of BasiliskII, on MacOS: How?Wher
The Aqua / MacOS-native port of Basilisk (Basilisk II 1.0, Mac OS X port 19, downloaded from here ), 99% of the time, launches, shows smiling Mac, the blue MacOS screen, march of icons as extensions and control panels load, Desktop background loads, then *spoop*, window closes, Basilisk crashes, and...

Sheep_net, X11 version of BasiliskII, on MacOS: How?Where?
I've got the X11 version of Basilisk running within the MacOS X (10.6.8) environment. (I've run the Aqua-GUI version but it crashes if you so much as look at it sideways and when it does it eats the virtual hard drive until I mount it in the X11 version while booting from a different startup disk). ...

Re: PearPC for OSX available
Yeah, I'm familiar with that... I have to do that when executing PearPC in the Windows environment within Parallels. But in the Mac X11 environment the graphical PPC window is unresponsive to mouse and keyboard. I can Command-Tab and make sure it's the active window (when I do, the mouse arrow compl...

Re: PearPC for OSX available
That worked sort of
It is now executing the binary and I get the next window, the one in which I confirm which drive to boot from.
It doesn't accept keystrokes though
I need to enter a 1 to boot from the virtual hard drive.

Virtual machines (tnat create a different OS environment but on the same native processor as the environment running it) should not impose much of a speed hit even when nested. True emulators do . And nesting them generally is not very practical. DOABLE, yes:  http://home.earthlink.net/~ahu...

Didn't work with AirPort either. I had the idea of turning on Internet Sharing (OSX Sharing PrefsPane), that also made no difference. The MacOS 8.6 environment is a diskimage originally made from a fully functional bootable OS 8.6 volume on my 'WallStreet' PowerBook. It definitely had no networking ...

Thanks for an entirely reasonable suggestion. (It's DSL over phone wires rather than cable for whatever that's worth...no diff, right?) Thanks for that. Don't know how I managed to miss it in the above post. Unfortunately, no, I'm still getting the same error. I've installed a browser (iCab) , same error (-3221) there as well. Installed an old network utility, AGNetTools, which initially reports my IP address as 0.0.0.1, then when I...
