Re: MAME Power Macintosh 6100 boots!
Following the “breakthrough” ability to boot a 6100 it’s been a while since anything has been mentioned.
As we approach the end of the year, I was wondering if there have been any tentative developments in this space? Are there intractable issues that will prevent further improvements anytime soon ...

Re: RUNNING GAMES
Yes, in my instructions above I make an assumption that the supporting files (drives and images) are kept in the same location as the SheepShaver executable and preferences file, so the full path is not required. If you keep your drives and images elsewhere, you do have to provide a full path.

I was able to get this working in the same System 7 installation used with Lunicus, noted above.

Re: RUNNING GAMES
Glad to hear it worked for you. Some games in SheepShaver can just be quirky, particularly those that are speed sensitive or which expect specific hardware feedback that isn’t fully emulated.

Re: RUNNING GAMES
It seems to run fine for me in System 7.5.5. I am also running SheepShaver in Windows 11.
You might be having a problem because you are trying to run it in MacOS 8.1, whereas the game was released in 1994.

Re: MAME 2024/2025 Mac emulation updates
I don’t think you are doing anything wrong in terms of configuration or settings, as I’ve experienced the same issues with IIfx emulation under MAME for months now.
I found that using an older version of MAME (0.268) is more stable with the IIfx but it does not entirely eliminate the flashing disk ...

Re: Alpha build of DingusPPC for Windows available
Thanks for confirming that. A speed throttle will definitely be useful to ensure accuracy and usability for many apps.
Sound appears to be a key challenge in emulating the PPC 601 processor, given it is presenting issues for both the MAME and DingusPPC projects. For the former it is scratchy and ...

Re: Alpha build of DingusPPC for Windows available
It's coming along nicely. I still get freeze ups when sound is played in either the sound control panel or in various applications (running System 7.1.2 on a Power Macintosh 6100).
I was wondering if there is a speed control / throttle command line parameter?

Re: Trouble mounting a dual format ISO
Sorry for going off on a complete tangent, but for Windows 3.x software I recommend giving otvdm a try. It's an open source API translator that allows Win16 (and DOS) applications to run sort of natively on a modern Windows computer.
Thanks, I will check that out. Generally, I am happy to run ...

Re: Trouble mounting a dual format ISO
I should clarify that I was trying to get it work in the Windows version of SheepShaver. Whether I add it as a 'disk' or 'cdrom', either way it is still failing to show up as a readable disc image. This happens in System 7.5.5.

Re: Trouble mounting a dual format ISO
I've just tested it in MAME (System 7.1, Quadra 800) and it does work properly with the mount command "-cdrom", mounting as TREASURE on the desktop. So this is an issue specific to SheepShaver and Basilisk II.

Trouble mounting a dual format ISO
I have tried to mount an ISO of the 1995 CD "Treasure Island Interactive" by Hollywood Interactive Digital Entertainment. It is supposedly a dual format "Windows 3.1 and Macintosh" CD. In System 7.5.5 in SheepShaver it is giving me the error that the disc is unreadable and needs to be initialized ...

Re: MAME Power Macintosh 6100 boots!
Glad to see the bit depth issue and memory limit both resolved in the nightly build.
That leaves some "harder" issues now I guess - sound and/or video corruption. I don't know if the video corruption occurs across the board, as I have only tested a few LucasArts CD-ROM games.

I tried installing System 7.5 on top of an existing 7.1 installation and used that to boot with the Power Macintosh 6100. It works! I am using a build of MAME from 18 January.

Re: MAME Power Macintosh 6100 boots!
I did say booting 7.1.2 hard drive in DingusPPC is broken and requires some fixes that only exist in my fork currently. The fixes should eventually get upstreamed.

Re: MAME Power Macintosh 6100 boots!
Thanks for the disk images, that has sped up the testing process.
This is what I can confirm so far:
1. The blank DMG above works fine in DingusPPC with System 7.5.5 installed onto it. So I know the image is OK.
2. The System 7.1.2 ISO (691-0187-A,Power Macintosh 6100-60-60AV, 7100-66-66AV, and ...

Re: MAME Power Macintosh 6100 boots!
Seems odd to me though that Disk Jockey-formatted images wouldn't work. It must be installing the 68k SCSI driver instead of the PPC one?
Perhaps. I tried both the Windows and macOS versions of Disk Jockey, with the same result: DingusPPC recognizes the image in the terminal, but upon boot, the ...

Hmm, the lengths I will go to to test stuff .. installing Leopard in order to create a DMG that will hopefully load in DingusPPC so that I can then install 7.1.2 onto it and perhaps make it boot in MAME, even though it's very much a work in progress.. sounds like fun! ;-)

I would be happy to try that, but I have run into problems with Dingus PPC. I cannot get any hard drive images to work with that program. I can only boot off a System CD image.

Are you referring to the one labelled as "System 7.1.2P (Performa 630CD, 635CD, 638CD) (CD)" on the Macintosh Repository?
