Re: Comparing screen resolution

For BasiliskII and SheepShaver builds posted here, at least on macOS (not sure about Windows) there are advanced settings for changing the scaling algorithms that will improve display on high resolution (Retina) screens. These are explained in the setup manuals: BasiliskII: https://www.emaculation.c...

Re: How much ram for Basilisk

How much RAM did you give BasiliskII and/or SheepShaver? 256MB or 512MB should be plenty for any normal use. There is no relation between rom files and how much RAM you can or should give to the emulators. Because of the way BasiliskII and SheepShaver use memory on the host, there may sometimes be i...

Re: SheepShaver on Apple M1

Good to know that SheepShaver runs on M1 Macs with the help of Rosetta 2. I expect future arm64 or universal (x86_64 arm64) builds. kanjitalk755 made his fork ready to build for Apple Silicon. It has not been tested yet. It seems the code was excluded later to avoid errors in Xcode 12.2 See his post...

Re: Mouse issues on Basilisk II on Catalina

This is the normal behaviour in MacOS up to versions 7.x. Click on the menu to open it and while holding the mouse button move the cursor to the menu item you want to choose and then release the mouse button. If you prefer OS8 (and later) style "sticky menus", you can try the "StickyC...

Probably an application package, a Mac OS X application, not a Classic Mac application. A 'universal' application from that era could run in Mac OS X on both PPC and Intel.

You did exactly as instructed. The file should be created in the folder where the GUI app resides, if you followed the setup guide that will be the BasiliskII folder. It works fine here in Catalina.

Re: Reconfiguring S...

I suppose you did not install MacOS9 yourself, as instructed in our setup manual, but instead used a pre-installed boot image like the one you can download from Redundant Robot. That image does not contain a full MacOS installation and, as you noticed, it does not have room for additional installati...

Re: Reconfiguring S...

You are running SheepShaver on OSX or macOS. Applications cannot run from the 'Unix' disk or from the desktop when the application was moved directly from 'Unix' to the desktop (which still leaves it on 'Unix', in a hidden folder "Desktop Folder"). The message that an application cannot ru...

Re: Cannot Open ROM File while opening SheepShaver

I do not understand how you could have spent hours installing Mac OS. If SheepShaver cannot find or open a ROM file, you cannot even start to install Mac OS in the emulator. Did you install a compatible (old world or new world) ROM file and did you follow our setup guide, configuring SheepShaver Set...

Do you see signs of desktop file corruption, like incorrect icons or files not opening with the creator appli...

This is indeed the prefs file that contains SheepShaver settings. With these settings, the used "disk" volume files, the "rom" file Mac OS ROM, and the SheepShaver application itself should be together inside the SheepShaver folder. (Did you use all six MacOS9 disk images mounted...

Re: Qemu providing access to folder as fat32 drive

Is the 'Apple Audio Extension' needed in MacOS in Qemu? In SheepShaver, if it happens to be installed (not with a default installation), it is best removed because of possible crashes. Sound works there fine without the extension.

Re: Is SheepShaver dead?

SheepShaver and BasiliskII are not dead at all. "the main developer abandoned ship some time ago" possibly refers to Gwenole Beauchesne, who "suspended" development in 2006. That did not stop development. Many developers have contributed since. In 2012 the original B2-devel code ...

I corrected the image link. You need to enter the address of the image itself to be displayed here, not the address were the image is posted. From the image I cannot tell if the Mac OS ROM file is the correct file and if the name does indeed not have a (possible hidden) extension. - Did you download...

Re: Problems saving files to Unix drive after upgrading from macOS 10.13.6 6o 10.14.6

This thread started with the ClarisCAD not able to save to the Unix drive. Most applications do not have problems with the Unix drive. In my SheepShaver setup in Catalina I tried several applications and it is only SimpleText that cannot save to 'Unix'. However, the problem with ClarisCAD is differe...

Re: Problems saving files to Unix drive after upgrading from macOS 10.13.6 6o 10.14.6

Yes, I find the same issue trying to save a SimpleText document to 'Unix' with macOS 10.15 (Catalina). I did not notice it before and so far no one else reported this. I can save an AppleWorks document to 'Unix' without issues, though. Apparently it does not affect all applications in OS9. That may ...

Whatever the cause, apparently this does not work for you. Better get rid of this COIV4.0.1+ and follow emendelson's advice above. Note that we do not support COI. It should run on macOS Sierra, though. Just launch the "Classic" application, nothing else is needed. The .dmg files are only needed in the /Users/Shared/ folder when you need more disk space. Strange that SheepShaver does not find the startup disk. That di...

Re: Basilisk II on Raspberry Pi : no keycodes file?

Great!

Yes, indeed, the RetroPie community should have a better look at the BasiliskII source code that is used and at the way BasiliskII is compiled and build. All BasiliskII forks that I am aware of, read the keycodes entries in the configuration (prefs) file since at least 1996.
