Re: Which Emulator?

The one that came the closest was Emendelson's package, which was easy to download and use with what was there, but items aren't transferring from the Shared folder on the M1 Mini's side to the Unix folder in OS9. If you tried emendelson's Mac OS 9 application, read the "How to use it" in...

Re: Use build date as version number?

OK, found it. Will be an additional way to find the exact build date, which can in most cases also be found by looking for the creation date. But it is not suitable for solving the frequent misunderstandings in the forum when users report the version as 2.4 or 2.5 or (BasiliskII) as 1.0, even when e...

Re: Use build date as version number?

Yes. I know. But I am used to make modifications in Xcode before building. I open the project, make some modifications (Deployment Target to 10.9., Minimum System version to 10.9.0, Bundle Identifier to com.emaculation.sheepshaver in two places) and then I run the commands as indicated by kanjitalk7...

Re: Use build date as version number?

For my next macOS builds I will leave in Info.plist "Bundle version" and "Bundle version string (short)" alone but I will add "Get Info string" with the extended version number. That string will then be displayed as version in the Finder Info panel for the app. I will d...

Re: Use build date as version number?

I was referring to the version numbers, not to the application file names. The version number will be shown in Finder Info for the app. A BasiliskII for macOS with version number 1.0.20220629 will still be named just BasiliskII.app. Otherwise Basilisk II GUI.app would not be able to start BasiliskII...

Re: Use build date as version number?

The SheepShaver and BasiliskII version numbers are determined in the source. There are multiple forks. We use the fork by kanjitalk755. The version numbers are rarely changed. BasiliskII has been for decades, and still is, version 1.0, though the kanjitalk755 fork is now labelled "SDL2 port&quo...

The OP does indeed not mention the SheepShaver build he uses in macOS 12.4 (Monterey). In my replies I assumed he uses my latest 24 January 2022 universal build.

Did you enable sound in SheepShaver as noted in the setup manual:

In “Sound” control panel, select “Built-in” for the output device, click “Built-in” to highlight it.

Re: Jumpy cursor in MacOS 12.4 Monterey

The relevant information is in the setup manual but not in one place. And the manual assumes that the user knows how to access hidden files. The prefs file is the file ".sheepshaver_prefs" in your Home folder. As the file name starts with a dot, the file is normally hidden in the Finder. -...

Re: Unix Root/Shared Folder HELP

No shared folder, but a similar feature is available in SheepShaver for Windows. From the setup manual:: In the GUI, Volumes tab: - Enable “My Computer” icon on your Mac desktop (external file system) : when checked, SheepShaver gives access to host drives. - Mount drives : shows the host drives tha...

Re: SheepSaver running off boot image but won't install OS

The system will only run from a read-only CD. Our SheepShaver for Windows setup guide tells you: Note: If you are using a CD image, you may need to right-click the image (in Windows), and set it to “read only” in the “properties” menu. This will solve the “The system software on the startup disk onl...

Re: SheepSaver running off boot image but won't install OS

You are using a bare OS9 boot disk, probably downloaded from Redundant Robot. It is a limited OS9 System Folder installation only and does not contain an installer You will need a Mac installation disk image, like the retail international English Mac OS 9.0.4 install CD image that can be downloaded ...

Maybe you are confused by the, not so obvious, dialog in System 6. The top text box in the dialog is in fact a drop down menu that enables you to start navigating to other disks.

Re: Sheepshaver won't open on M1 Pro Mac (version 12.0)

The issue must be on the host or in your SheepShaver setup. Things to try: 1. Quit all applications running on your MacBook, then restart your MacBook and launch SheepShaver without first starting other applications. 2. In SheepShaver preferences set Ram Size to 256 or 512 (MB) (Note that after any ...

Re: Jumpy cursor in MacOS 12.4 Monterey

1. Which is your setting in preferences for Refresh Rate? It should be "Dynamic". 2. Maybe you used an older version of SheepShaver before. Older versions use the hardware cursor by default in window mode, newer versions use the software cursor in both window mode and full-screen mode by d...

You are with the Open dialog of Stuffit Expander in the Stuffit Expander folder. The game's stuffit archive is not there. You will have to navigate to where the archive is. Best first copy (drag) the archive from ImportFl to your "Untitled" virtual hard drive. I suppose you run System 6 so...

As noted in the setup manual, the old world rom file can be used for System 7.5.3 through MacOS 9.0.4, while the new world rom file can be used for MacOS 8.5 through MacOS 9.0.4 and is best for MacOS 8.6 through MacOS 9.0.4.

importfl will only import the data fork, making most old Mac files and all old Mac application files useless.
