Re: Booting Mac OS 9 in Qemu for 10.6 Snow Leopard

If the same backward compatibility policy was used in 2017, the earliest OSX version that version 2.7 could be used with would be OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
September 2017 macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) was released.

Re: Sheepshaver crashing a lot

This reply is for the regular SheepShaver setup (not for Edward Mendelson's pre-configured setup). Please follow our setup manual to the letter: https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/sheepshaver_mac_os_x_setup For MacOS 7.5.3 through 8.1, use the suggested oldworld rom file. For MacOS 8.5 through 9.0...

Strange, especially strange that it affects only MacOS 9.0.4.
But do you actually use File Sharing in SheepShaver?

The "Unix" feature is not available in SheepShaver for windows. Instead, there is the "My computer" icon. I have no answers to your questions, sorry. I do not understand your setup with different computers and server and what is the need or purpose of that complicated setup. Your...

Well, the issue is apparently with the Unix/shared folder over a network connection. I do not know if this can be resolved.

Re: How to display Chinese correctly on UNIX disk when Chinese MacOSX 10.9 runs sheepshaver Chinese version macos9.0?

The best way will be to create a new empty disk image of sufficient size. If this works with files names intact, it can be used to move files between SheepShaver guest and OSX host. - Start Disk Utility (in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder) - From the File menu, choose New Image > Blank Image... ...

Re: How to display Chinese correctly on UNIX disk when Chinese MacOSX 10.9 runs sheepshaver Chinese version macos9.0?

Information may get lost on the "Unix" drive which is not a HFS or HFS+ volume. You can see that when you select "Unix" and check Finder Info for the volume. The format is seen by the Finder as "Unix Directory Tree". I am trying to find out if it is the Unix/shared fold...

Re: How to display Chinese correctly on UNIX disk when Chinese MacOSX 10.9 runs sheepshaver Chinese version macos9.0?

Now the problem is that there is no need to copy. In the Chinese simplified macosx10.9, the file names in the folder are all Chinese characters. After the folder is mounted as UNIX and displayed on the macos9 desktop, finder opens the UNIX folder, and the file displayed in simplified Chinese is gar...

There are different possible encodings for languages like Chinese. I suppose UTF-8 is normally used in OSX. I am not sure which encoding was used in Classic MacOS.

Re: How to display Chinese correctly on UNIX disk when Chinese MacOSX 10.9 runs sheepshaver Chinese version macos9.0?

I suppose that the files show the correct Chinese characters on the OSX side. If such a file is copied inside SheepShaver MacOS from the Unix drive to the virtual HD ( not moved to the desktop!), do the correct characters appear again in the file name? (BTW: Are we talking about traditional or simpl...

Re: [Help] There is not enough memory zero K needed

1. Is the MacOS 9.0.4.iso a fully pre-installed system or a MacOS install CD image? If it is an install CD image, it seems you did not install the system (at least you do not mention installing MacOS). 2. The error message is typical for when you try to run an application (this game) while it is not...

Weird. For example, if I invoke SheepShaver > Preferences… and then move the main emulator window, smoothing turns off! The lines are much thinner, and exactly crisp. Not sure what you mean with "invoke". Exactly what do you do? Open the Prefs window and close it or open the Prefs window a...

OS11 Big Sur no longer seems to mount/ recognise CD-ROMs in Finder using the Apple USB SuperDrive. It does show as connected in 'System Preferences' and 'Disk Utility'. I also tried to recreate the .cdr/ disk image process in Disk Utility - however the operation failed reporting 'Operation not perm...

The installation disk image file needs to be made read-only in order to convince the installer that it is on the original read-only CD media. Right-click the image file and set it to “read only” in the “properties” menu.

Re: Can we turn off font smoothing?

There is no font smoothing in SheepShaver. The anti-aliasing issue on Retina screens was addressed by adding the scaling algorithm options in the prefs file. One or both can be added, you can experiment for best result. I am not sure what you did and which file you edited. When you use Preferences i...

Re: Can we turn of font smoothing?

You do not tell which are your host machine and OS, and exactly which SheepShaver build (date!) you use. Your problem is possibly caused by the anti-aliasing that will accompany the scaling on high resolution (Retina) screens. Try adding these lines to the SheepShaver prefs file: scale_nearest true ...

I downloaded the file, but I do not know what it is. The .IMG extension suggests a disk image, but it is no regular HFS or HFS+ disk image. Maybe a damaged file. Nothing I have here, in modern macOS or in classic MacOS, recognizes the file format.

If you want to use BasiliskII with System 7.6.1, you will need a 1MB rom file like the performa.rom or quadra650.rom (and best set Model ID to Quadra900 and CPU type to 68040).
