Re: Opening files in ConcertWare

Why did you need to correct type and creator codes? Where the codes lost? Could the files have lost their resource forks? Which System/Mac OS version was used on your grandfather's Mac? How did you copy the files from your grandfather's Mac and to what kind of storage, was that storage HFS formatted...

Re: How to set up SheepShaver for actual dummies?

You do not mention which is your host system (OSX/macOS or Windows). So it is not clear which guide you use. We try to make the setup guides as simple as possible, but the procedure simply is not simple. And, yes, it is this board's policy not not link directly to copyright or Eula protected materia...

Re: SheepShaver quits unexpectedly

I do not know if using the Redundant Robot boot disk causes the crashes, but doing a proper Mac OS installation will be better anyway. Macintosh Garden moved some pages around, but with the instructions in the setup manual and some creative searching on that site you should have been able to find th...

Re: So, what 3D games are compatible with the new hardware acceleration feature?

As I understand it, it gives a choice in the GUI for optimal SDL rendering with different graphical hardware on the host. In OSX/macOS the emulators automatically use Metal if available and OpenGL if Metal is not available.

Re: So, what 3D games are compatible with the new hardware acceleration feature?

As far as I am aware, this is Windows-only. On OSX/macOS, BasiliskII and SheepShaver use OpenGL or Metal depending on the hosts hardware. Note that this feature is about rendering used by the emulator on the host. It does not do anything for software running inside the emulator. It does not change a...

Re: SheepShaver quits unexpectedly

I do not see anything specific that could cause SheepShaver crashing. But you could try a couple of changes in the preferences settings: - RAM Size: 512 MB - Ignore Illegal Instructions enabled - Enable JIT compiler disabled (will make SheepShaver slower) However, it seems you did not do a proper fu...

Re: What games are people playing on SS in 2021?

I think that people using these emulators for fun or as a hobby are the majority. Some are interested in experimenting with the software, feel challenged to get things working. Some run old MacOS versions for nostalgic reasons or for playing the games they remember. Some need the emulators to be abl...

Re: Game with Multiple Disks

But I noticed that when that happens and I quit the game, the disk on the desktop changes from "Spycraft_1" to "Audio CD1" and has 1 track as its contents instead of the Spycraft contents. That is what you will see when you remove the "CD" within BasiliskII. (The disks...

Re: Game with Multiple Disks

Well, this is indeed overkill. I wonder if the software could get confused with each disk mounted twice. You only need one instance of each disk mounted, either the .toast files or the .iso files. Possibly even only disk 1 needs to be mounted as CD-ROM. If that is so, this would suffice: disk /Users...

Re: Game with Multiple Disks

The build you use is too old for this trick. Better first install the 21 April 2021 build. You can simply replace the older application with the new one. If you use the keycodes file, you will also need to replace it with a newer file. See: https://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7...

Re: Game with Multiple Disks

It could be that the game needs the real CDs to be mounted. The software can made to see the mounted image as the real CD by editing the prefs file. 1. Which BasiliskII build (date!) do you use? 2. I suppose you have the .toast images mounted by adding them in the GUI to the volumes list. 3. Then po...

Re: Boot failure after crash

Cat_7 is right. Maybe stability could be improved with different settings for BasiliskII. If you post here the contents of the hidden file .basilisk_ii_prefs in your Home folder, we can easily check your settings. (Macintosh Garden does not mention compatibility of Strata Studio Pro 1.x with Basilis...

Re: Boot failure after crash

No way to "reset" the emulated machine (just like it used to be with the real hardware). The hard-drive corruption may be caused by the crash or by the hard shutdown or both. If you regularly make a copy of the hard-drive image file when it is not yet corrupted, you can simply replace the ...

(You cannot add your screenshot like this. You need to upload it to a place on the internet where you can share the image and then link to it here.) 1. Which is your host system? I suppose it is macOS? which version? 2. SheepShaver 2.0? I suppose you mean SheepShaver 2.5. Which build (date!)? 3. Are...

Re: Issues launching SheepShave v2.5.

SheepShaver should run fine in Big Sur, on both Intel or Apple Silicon. I understand that you try SheepShaver for the first time and that you do not have an existing SheepShaver setup. Right? 1. Did you download a recent recommended build, either 21 April 2021 (Intel only) or 3 July 2021 (universal)...

Re: How to install Tiger on QEMU?

Older HFS disks, including CDs, will not mount in macOS Catalina and later. Possibly the CD is a HFS disk. Then it will not mount, but it can be seen (greyed out) in Disk Utility. If you can see it in Disk Utility you may still be able to use it when you run QEMU as root.

Re: Thousands of Colors Palette Buggy

Apparently there was confusion about the used builds. The final Intel-only build 21 April 2021 is OK.

The reported issue is in the universal builds when run on Intel or when forced to run with Rosetta on Apple Silicon.

kanjitalk755 fixed the issue. As soon as I have time, I will post new builds.

Re: Comment lines in prefs file

There is no such thing as comment lines in the prefs file. But yes, indeed, if the line starts with something that is not expected, that line will be ignored. However, BII/SS may again write a line that it expects and does not find. That line will then be with the default setting. Any special line y...
