Re: Freeze when changing to different size display

I have no idea what is going on in your setup.

Do you leave SheepShaver running for extended periods of time? Better shut down SheepShaver before closing your MacBook and start again SheepShaver when the environment in which you want to use SheepShaver (for instance with which screen) is set up.

Doesn't the OP use Mac OS X 10.0?

BTW: According to the table in the setup guide, screamer sound does not work nicely with Mac OS X 10.0.

Re: Random crash during boot on Qemu8.2 (Windows)

1. After a System crash you should always shut down and start up again to prevent possible (further) damage to the file system. 2. It is possible that you do not need the "Apple Audio Extension". When you manage to startup again, use the Extensions Manager control panel to disable the Appl...

Select a file (any file) in the Finder, hit command-I (or choose Show Info from the File menu). The Finder Info panel for that file will open with info about that file, among which the creation and modification dates. SheepShaver's creation date is its build date. (could be one day off, depending on...

The script does not give any confirmation. If ran without error, it should be OK. If you want to check the location of the prefs file: Open your Home folder Hit command-shift-. (command-shift-dot). This will reveal hidden files. If the .sheepshaver_prefs file is among the revealed files in your Home...

You did not mention on which host machine you upgraded to Sonoma. If you used OCLP (open core legacy patcher) to run Ventura (and now Sonoma) on a not-supported Intel machine, SheepShaver will stop working after upgrade to Sonoma.

I am not sure if this game will run in SheepShaver, but it will certainly not run unless CarbonLib 1.6 is installed in MacOS. The extension can be downloaded from Macintosh Garden: http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/carbonlib MacOS 9.0.3? Is that a machine specific version? As far as I know, general In...

Re: SheepShaver constantly freezes running 'Ares'

Did you try shortening the sound buffer in SheepShaver? Shortening the length of the sound buffer can prevent delayed and choppy sound in some applications but will increase CPU use. Since March 2021, the sound buffer can be shortened in BasiliskII and SheepShaver builds from kanjitalk755 source by ...

The issue was solved since December 2022. The latest build is dated 28 February 2024. If the Settings menu is greyed out, you do not run the latest SheepShaver build. Maybe you have several different builds installed and accidentally launch an older build?

OK. If the file ~/.sheepshaver_prefs was the file that you edited with "jit false" before you tried the no-JIT build, then apparently that build does not work for you with OCLP and Sanoma. The prefs file location issue is a little complicated: It used to be ~/.sheepshaver_prefs Builds betw...

The "SheepShaver-noJIT" build worked with Ventura, but it did not work for "PBobbenB" with Sonoma. @ PBobbenB In the past two years different SheepShaver builds wrote a new prefs file to different locations. To make sure you edited the right prefs file that all builds will use, d...

We have seen various issues with SheepShaver that only happen on machines that run macOS using OCLP.

@ sykogee
Do you also use OCLP to run Sonoma on your MacBook Pro?

One would expect BasiliskII and SheepShaver to use memory in a similar way, but I really do not know. I recall reports of the "cannot map RAM" issue only with SheepShaver, usually on Linux or Windows hosts and rarely on OSX/macOS. Restarting the host usually solves the issue. Restarting do...
