Re: Getting HyperCard installed in vMac using OS 7.5.3
How unfortunate that this sort of thing is still causing problems after all this time. The Hypercard 2.4.1 installer is a 45 meg file, and for some reason, when you try expanding it with Stuffit Expander, you get a .img that looks "torn in half", that no image mounting tool will touch (wro...

If you are having difficulty searching for information, please be aware that the word is Pippin, not "Pip Pin". (It's a variety of apple, you see.)

Re: What games are people playing on SS in 2021?
Here are the SS games I play the most (I play some others in BII), most played first: Indeed, isn't it much better to run most of those games in BII, if not natively? Pegasus Prime used to be an excellent use for Sheepshaver, but now that it's playable in ScummVM, that's no longer a requirement. I ...

Re: How to handle old ".rsrc" files
If Executor and HFV Explorer aren't options, then there is a utility included with netatalk that can be used to convert AppleDouble back to MacBinary, previously discussed in https://emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=53615 . MacBinary files can then be safely decoded in System 7.5 with Stuffit E...

Re: How to handle old ".rsrc" files
Well, if they're AppleDouble, then if I'm not mistaken, HFVExplorer would require "SaintEdit 1.1.rsrc" to be renamed to "%SaintEdit 1.1", and would also expect a second zero-byte file named "SaintEdit 1.1" to represent the data fork. (A zero-byte file can easily be crea...

Re: How to handle old ".rsrc" files
That's called "Apple Double" format, and is used, among other places, by SheepShaver and Basilisk II on Windows in the shared folders. Don't Sheepshaver and Basilisk use folders named ".finf" and ".rsrc" for storing resource fork data? I've never been entirely clear on...

Statesman article on Cap'n Magneto
It occurred to me that this was a good place to post this. https://www.statesman.com/in-depth/news/2021/05/13/al-evans-capn-magneto-videogame-creator-persevered-after-injury/7185492002/ Cap'n Magneto is one of the more enduring games for the old B&W Macs. Apparently there was a color version rel...

Re: Any interest in preserving ancient Mac floppy readers?
In the interests of completion, I thought I might mention MacOpener here, which I stumbled upon the other day despite never having encountered it previously. It seems it went through quite a few iterations.

Re: Escape Velocity in OS 9.0.4
As Escape Velocity is a 68k game, it may be preferable to use Basilisk instead. I've got the first running, but each time I create a pilot, the pilot file is created, but as I play it's not updated, meaning I restart the game from scratch after a quit. How did you install the game? Did you copy the ...

Re: Unarchiver and Mini vMac
I had hoped that with the sources of HFV Explorer becoming available, some sort of integration with The Unarchiver would be feasible, thus obliterating the need for Expander forever. Maybe some day. I also reckon something for mashing together all 14 parts of System 7.5.3 would be nice, but I guess ...

Re: An emulator focusing on accurate Mac emulation?
I often used to say that the lack of a free open-source BIOS and viable alternative to MacOS held back development efforts – but these days it seems like that doesn't really matter anymore. There are already emulators for old PCs and NeXT that emphasis on accuracy. Are you thinking of Bochs? Because...

It might be worth pointing out that Filemaker is enormously popular and it may be worth looking into whether versions that can run natively in Windows 10 can still open those business records.blarg wrote:All of his business records were created on his old mac using a program called Filemaker II.

Re: Executor - How to install apps and games
Stuffit expander just opens and closes whenever I try to extract anything. What version of Stuffit Expander are you using? I seem to recall it was originally distributed with a version of Expander, but my mind is fuzzy on the subject. It might only work with 4.x, which of course would not be able t...

You know you can play Marathon on any Windows PC using Aleph One, right? It should be much, much easier than emulation.

Anyway, if you hold down Shift while the emulated Macintosh boots up, it will boot with extensions off.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I would advise you to further investigate hardware problems before tearing your hair out looking for a software problem. I don't think I would trust one of those. You might be better off looking for some kind of PCI I/O card that works with your version of Windows, or possibly a PCMCIA serial card if you're using a laptop.craigers01 wrote:My windows host has an USB->RS232 cable attached.

Re: Installing Classic Mac implementation of BBC BASIC
I have been able to unpack the archive on MacOS (with both unzip and with ditto). But the unpacked files don't look right; there is a "BBC BASIC" file but it is short - at 256 bytes, too short to be the interpreter. FYI: the 256-byte file is the "data fork" of the application. T...

"You lose". What a jolly little message.
I'm not sure what you've Googled, but https://github.com/cebix/macemu/issues/168 suggests you need to disable the JIT compiler on 64-bit machines.
