Re: Game Recommendations Needed!
Wouldn't you expect lists of recommendations to already exist? https://emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8803 https://emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5351 (I was just thinking of Asterax the other day – or rather of how I had completely forgotten what it was called. Again.)...

Re: Any interest in preserving ancient Mac floppy readers?
In the interests of completion, I thought I might mention MacOpener here, which I stumbled upon the other day despite never having encountered it previously. It seems it went through quite a few iterations.

Re: Escape Velocity in OS 9.0.4
As Escape Velocity is a 68k game, it may be preferable to use Basilisk instead. I've got the first running, but each time I create a pilot, the pilot file is created, but as I play it's not updated, meaning I restart the game from scratch after a quit. How did you install the game? Did you copy the ...

Re: Unarchiver and Mini vMac
I had hoped that with the sources of HFV Explorer becoming available, some sort of integration with The Unarchiver would be feasible, thus obliterating the need for Expander forever. Maybe some day. I also reckon something for mashing together all 14 parts of System 7.5.3 would be nice, but I guess ...

Re: An emulator focusing on accurate Mac emulation?
I often used to say that the lack of a free open-source BIOS and viable alternative to MacOS held back development efforts – but these days it seems like that doesn't really matter anymore. There are already emulators for old PCs and NeXT that emphasis on accuracy. Are you thinking of Bochs? Because...

Re: Help me choose the best emulator
It might be worth pointing out that Filemaker is enormously popular and it may be worth looking into whether versions that can run natively in Windows 10 can still open those business records.blarg wrote:All of his business records were created on his old mac using a program called Filemaker II.

Re: Executor - How to install apps and games
Stuffit expander just opens and closes whenever I try to extract anything. What version of Stuffit Expander are you using? I seem to recall it was originally distributed with a version of Expander, but my mind is fuzzy on the subject. It might only work with 4.x, which of course would not be able t...

You know you can play Marathon on any Windows PC using Aleph One, right? It should be much, much easier than emulation.

Anyway, if you hold down Shift while the emulated Macintosh boots up, it will boot with extensions off.

By all accounts phpBB is apparently riddled with security vulnerabilities. This might be the last phpBB board I visit semi-regularly.

As I mentioned in your other thread, I would advise you to further investigate hardware problems before tearing your hair out looking for a software problem. I don't think I would trust one of those. You might be better off looking for some kind of PCI I/O card that works with your version of Windows, or possibly a PCMCIA serial card if you're using a laptop.craigers01 wrote:My windows host has an USB->RS232 cable attached.

Re: Installing Classic Mac implementation of BBC BASIC
I have been able to unpack the archive on MacOS (with both unzip and with ditto). But the unpacked files don't look right; there is a "BBC BASIC" file but it is short - at 256 bytes, too short to be the interpreter. FYI: the 256-byte file is the "data fork" of the application. T...

"You lose". What a jolly little message.
I'm not sure what you've Googled, but https://github.com/cebix/macemu/issues/168 suggests you need to disable the JIT compiler on 64-bit machines.

(sheepshaver's guide makes frequent references to mac OS installation disks, but doesn't mention if we are talking the desired OS you want, or the one specified for your laptop if you're running OSX.) There never was a CD icon on my MacOS desktop when I double-clicked the game installer, so I am unsure how to get the CD icon to appear. I'm sure I'm making an inane mistake, but I've tried everything I can think of to adhere to your response and have reached a dead end. As has been stated: Just ke...

Maelstrom is also open source. So is Aquaria, but that was never an Ambrosia exclusive so it hardly seems worth mentioning. (Same goes for the ports of Introversion's games.)

Ambrosia's website is gone?
Commentary on today's XKCD has led me to learn that, as per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambrosia_Software , Ambrosia's website apparently vanished last month – though as some have noted, it ceased to be properly functional for the purposes of software registration some time ago. What could the fut...

I would like to know if there is a known cause for this behaviour. Is this the problem you're describing in this old thread? https://emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9543&p=58346 Since the file sizes are identical, it seems to me that the resource fork information isn't being lost – aside from the Type/Creator data. If that's the case, then instea...
