Re: MacSoup
I'm sure you're right about it not being aClassic Mac app. I was evidently confused about what "universal" meant.

Re: Getting QEMU to work
Thank you. Yes, I had discovered that Safari is slow and does not connect to some sites. Now that VMWare Fusion is free, I am more likely to use that and a more modern version of OS X for my emulation/virtualisation needs. But it's still niece to be able to emulate older versions should I want to, a...

Re: Getting QEMU to work
OK, I've got it working now. I used 10.4. I might try other versions to see if they are faster to load.
Should Safari work? (And other internet programs.) I tried, and it just seemed to sit there, but maybe it was just being extremely slow.

Re: Getting QEMU to work
I had some difficulties, but that looks as if it will work. I didn't have time to do more than check that the install disk loads.

MacSoup
My Sheepshaver installations are in general working fine. But I tried (in several ways) to install MacSoup and keep getting problems. For instance, I have a MacSoup.iso item. On my Mac running Catalina, this opens fine and reveals the program MacSoup as a universal 32-bit application (which, of cour...

Re: Getting QEMU to work
Seems quite likely. My qemu.command script is #!/bin/bash cd "$(dirname "$0")" ./qemu-system-ppc \ -L pc-bios -m 256 -M mac99 -boot d \ -drive file=MacOSXinstall.iso,format=raw,media=cdrom \ -drive file=MacOSX.img,format=raw,media=disk The MacOSXinstall disk was created in the fo...

Getting QEMU to work
So I have just started playing with QEMU (5.1-OSX-01-10-2020), trying to get it to run an early OS X version. MY OS is 10.15.7 I modified the qemu.command file, just by renaming the iso and img files but leaving everything else unchanged.. When I run the command, the qemu-sysrem-ppc window opens but...

Re: Scrutiny in the Great Round
I had decided something like that must be happening. I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere in the documentation, but evidently I had missed it.
Anyway, it's working now, and I have that information for future use if needed.

Re: Scrutiny in the Great Round
I think I have it working now, thanks to help from Elyus. I said previously it worked unreliably (crashes but fine when restarted, etc) on OS 7. A detailed look revealed that (as I knew) I had OS 8 and OS 7 within my Basilisk Mac emulation. I was actually always using OS 8, not OS 7. I had used the ...

Re: Scrutiny in the Great Round
On Basilisk running OS 7, it sort of worked. Sometimes crashed or froze, sometimes worked for a longish time (longer than I've had time to spend on it at present).
Anyway, thanks for all the help. Maybe it's time to give up.

Re: Scrutiny in the Great Round
Thanks. I finally got Basilisk set up, there were a lot of blocks in the road., knowing not to update hard disk drivers, etc. I'm now on OS 8.0. But unfortunately the white rectangles persist. Weird. I tried changing the size of the graphics, but they were still there. Maybe it just doesn't want to ...

Re: Scrutiny in the Great Round
Yes, I didn't see why Quicktime 2.5 and 4 should have any problems, but they do. Current situation is this. On Sheepshaver running OS9 or OS8, or trying macintoshjs, I get white rectangles. My suspicion is that some setting needs adjusting. On Sheepshave runing OS 7, it seems to freeze early on. On ...

Re: Scrutiny in the Great Round
OK, I'll try further. Can I shortcut Basilisk installation by using a sparsebundle that works for OS8 in Sheepshaver? Or do I have to go through all the downloading of 19 parts of 7.5? By the way, the game is colour, about 1995. The version of QuickTime installable from the game is 2.1. I had 2.5 in...

Scrutiny in the Great Round
I'm trying to play Scrutiny in the Great Round, more an interactive art piece than a game. It sort of works, but often displays white rectangles where there should obviously be some content. I'm wondering if some adjustment to parameters would make it work fully. I've tried Sheepshaver running syste...

Re: No sound in SheepShaver/Mac OS 9
I'm also having a problem with sound on my OS 9. Running latest Sheepshaver on Mac Catalina. In the Sound control panel I can see that the output sound is maximum and set to built-in. In the Sound control STRIP module, the sound level seems to be at zero, and pulling it up in the slider doesn't stic...

Well, I have what I want now, by another method, but will remember these suggestions in case they are needed later. I guess I got caught by Disk Utility's images not being bootable. Both with the stand-alone GUI and the built-in one of the new version, the image appeared to be created but it did not...

If you want to change the boot disk image, change the volumes list such that the other image is at the top of the list. About the three set-ups at the same time, I cannot explain more clearly in words than what the screenshots show. Three folders, each with its own copy of SheepShaver, boot image, ...

Ronald, I did not understand what you were doing in the thread you mentioned. Perhaps more details are needed. Cat_7, I was tring to move things in the preferences of the new version, and they did not seem to move. But it didn't work using the GUI either. There's a GTK Unix executable inside SheepSh...

Problems with 21 July UB for Mac
I upgraded my SheepShaver to this latest build, and ran into a couple of problems. 1. I tried to create a new disk. It seemed to create ok - it went very fast, which may mean it was not working properly, but the entry did appear in Volumes. But when I then ran SheepShaver, it just crashed on me. Pro...

Multiple OS
I note that the Startup Disk control panel does not work, which prevents one having both OS 8.5 and 9.0.4. Is there any neat way round this? I don't use SheepShaver that often, but I am not sure which legacy apps run under which OS. I think I have some that aren't compatible with both versions of th...
