Re: I need [someone?] to merge OS X AppleDoubles for OS 9...

And I've now updated my Mac OS 9 and System761 apps for macOS and MacOS9.exe and MacSys761.exe for Windows to include the AppleScript that decodes an AppleDouble file and the DecodeAppleFile app. EDIT: And it turns out that DecodeAppleFile was sitting all along on Paul C. Pratt's site: https://www.g...

Re: I need [someone?] to merge OS X AppleDoubles for OS 9...

One question: I notice you're using '%_' -- in A/UX, it just prefixes with '%' and no underscore. Does the script handle this? I had it wrong, and the script had it wrong. That's what I get for trying to read the small print. I've uploaded a fixed version of the script. Thank you for catching this!

Re: I need [someone?] to merge OS X AppleDoubles for OS 9...

And THAT is a great find, EMendelson! Since you're the local AppleScript wizard, any chance you could write up a droplet that recognizes different AppleDouble formats and can automagically combine them? EDIT: Revised because the AppleScript app now lets you drop a file on it. Well, nothing like a c...

Re: I need [someone?] to merge OS X AppleDoubles for OS 9...

So I used Stuffit on Windows to extract an app from a .sit file into AppleDouble format, but when I tried to recombine the two files with Decode AppleFile 1.1, the app crashed in both SheepShaver (Mac OS9.0.4) and BasiliskiI (7.6.1). Has anyone used it successfully?

Re: I need [someone?] to merge OS X AppleDoubles for OS 9...

I've lost track, to be honest. There's the A/UX style (file [data] + %file [resource]), the OS X way (file [data] + ._file [resource]), the OS X Zip way (file [data] + __MACOSX/._file [resource]), and I can't remember what BII/SS shared folders and HFSExplorer do. Can anyone post a sample set of fi...

Excellent find! And here is the full information page - it turns out that the app is scriptable: https://web.archive.org/web/20150309103241/http://carl-bell.baylor.edu/ReadMeFiles/DecodeAppleFile.html And here's a page of other stuff that may be useful too: https://web.archive.org/web/20150309101155...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X

But this seems to assume that newconfig will find a network card. So we're back to figuring out how to make shoebill report a card to A/UX.... Is all this worth the effort, when the QEMU-based setup works perfectly when the network is started with Cat_7's command line? I've enjoyed experimenting wi...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X

OFF TOPIC: This only takes care of the qemu side of things so A/UX can find the network card. Perhaps you remember you had to manually set the network in A/UX with newconfig etc (See guide) Ah! I had forgotten newconfig entirely... Maybe this points to the answer in Shoebill? I won't try this immed...

Re: Mount sparsebundle in macOS?

You may be having an issue with it no longer being blessed? I've had this happen regularly, and just boot up with a different image, mount the unbootable one, open the System folder, then close it and eject the disk. When it gets launched in my standard config, that image boots fine. I think that's...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X

Well, this is the command parameter in QEMU (thanks to Cat_7) that starts the network in A/UX:

Code: Select all

-nic user,model=dp83932,mac=08:00:07:12:34:56,hostfwd=tcp::2121-:21 \

Mount sparsebundle in macOS?

Once every two or three years, I make this mistake: I dig deep into a SheepShaver sheepvm and double-click the sparsebundle with the emulated HFS+ disk image in order to mount it on the macOS desktop. (I have macFUSE installed.) When I unmount the emulated disk again, SheepShaver displays the floppy...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X

Adding SDL2 to the project is probably a good idea; yesterday, I got a chain of security warnings that Apple couldn't scan my new SDL2 library for malware and I had to go into Security settings and override it -- which probably isn't something we want people having to do who aren't familiar with co...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X

Here; I've forked the repo and committed the changes: https://github.com/adespoton/shoebill Thank you! I've built successfully and added the ARM-only build to my old AUXrunner, and it works. But it would be good to know how to get the network working by running as root (will experiment later). I ad...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X

There's one bug in all versions of shoebill -- in core/fpu.c, there's an 'a' function variable declared untyped. I put "int" in front of it and the problem went away. So "double _native_tentox(a) " becomes "double _native_tentox(int a) ". I also needed to replace my co...

Re: SheepShaver for Windows

This is very strange. VirusTotal.com reports 14 false positives (out of 72 tests) with SheepShaverGUI.exe from the first post in this thread. But my own build, made on 4 February in MSYS32, gets only one "unsafe" out of 72 tests. Mine is codesigned, so I codesigned your build, and that red...

Re: Shoebill - a Macintosh II + A/UX emulator for OS X

I hope you'll post your new version. Prompted by a post you made a few weeks ago, I found my old Shoebill-based AUXrunner, and made a few changes in the AppleScript so that it would run under Yosemite on an old Mac that I keep around for this kind of thing. I set it up to use the SLIRP-based version...

This is one more of many reasons not to use third-party malware detection on an updated Windows system. I gave up the last one I used (Malwarebytes) two years ago, and have never regretted it.

Possibly on an old machine or a backup. I'm traveling until Sunday night and the laptop I have here doesn't have it. Let me know next week if you still want it.

If you have a modern Mac, you can run A/UX 3.0 in QEMU with one click (or two):

Re: New Mac same setup I can't seem to fix

If you trash your existing copy of the Mac OS 9 app bundle and download a completely fresh copy, you will not find your old screensaver or anything else from your old system. You may want to read the entire download page for further details.

Re: New Mac same setup I can't seem to fix

That special build isn't supported here or anywhere, and if it isn't working for you, then probably you shouldn't use it. There's probably no way to figure out why the Unix folder doesn't work on your setup, for example. But, in case you want to make one more try to make it work, the prefs file that...
