Just tried it. Same result, same error.

Re: Self-contained Basilisk II VM for OSX (cool!)

Huh. Followed this to the letter, on Mac OS X 10.8.4, but when I try to launch I get an error;

"You can't open 'MacOS81' because it may be damaged or incomplete."

Major bummer.

Has anybody compiled a list of which 9.2.2 System Folder items work?

Re: Preferences file

Please take a look at the sheepvm functionality. Is that something worth copying for BasiliskII? http://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5754&hilit=sheepvm Please, YES! The sheepvm-style stand-alone VM method is the way to go. Set up the "hardware" once per configura...

Is there an OS 9 extension or app that can scan a folder and add the thumbnail data to the files losslessly (so the files don't have to be re-compressed)? Despite the good suggestions so far, my favorite is a tiny freeware app named (rather unimaginatively) "Thumbnail". That's all it does...

I, too, would like to see BII require no hard-coded resources. I'm told that BasiliskII & Sheepshaver share a lot of code, but on Mac OS X at least, BII is falling behind. For instance, on Mac OS X at least, Sheepshaver allows you to create multiple virtual Mac conficurations by putting all the ...

BII support like in SheepShaver for self-contained bundles?

Myrd wrote:I've committed a new feature to SheepShaver CVS. Currently, it is for Mac OS X and Unix only.

The idea is to allow for self-contained SheepShaver VMs, in a similar fashion to, for example, VMWare Fusion VMs.
Any chance this feature could be ported to BasiliskII?

Side note 2: Enabling color on Mac II mode on System 6 crashes the emulator. Side note 3: Special>Restarting on Mac II mode also crashes. I don't have either of those problems. Mini vMac 3.1.0, 8MB RAM, 800x600 System 6.0.8 (Universal install, I think), compiled from source using Xcode 3.1.2 on Mac...

DiskCopy 6.3.3

Yeah, Apple claims DiskCopy 6.3.3 works in 7.0.1+, but it's flaky. If you can find a copy of an earlier version (I use DiskCopy 6.1.3), it works just fine, including in emulation.

Re: 3 x SheepShaver

Would be a very large package, containing the disk images. True, but convenient for the user. Move the one file icon to move the entire "machine." Anyway, such packages could not be distributed because of Apple license agreement. Because of the ROM, you mean? True, that would have to be i...

Thanks, but no. Apparently the latest Mini vMac builds work *only* on the *original* Mac II ROM; even the later version of the Mac II with FDHD floppies used a different ROM, which is the one you have. The same ROM was also used in the Mac IIx, Mac IIcx, and Mac SE/30. Well, I'll be a monkey's uncl...

Re: 3 x SheepShaver

With all related files in the same folder with the SheepShaver application, only file names are needed in prefs, no full paths. This makes it possible to run SheepShaver with different MacOS versions without changing settings, even run them at the same time: Interesting! I wonder if it's possible t...

I know; I've compiled several variations of Mini vMac to simulate everything from a 128k to a Classic. But ever since BasiliskII lost the ability to run System 6 (Why the HECK hasn't that been fixed, anyway??), there's been no way to run Sys 6 in color. I know, "Who cares?" Well, I have fo...

Re: Emulation Benchmarks

The results say that Basilisk II JIT is much faster than SoftMac. They also say that neither SoftMac or Basilisk II have improved, speed-wise, in the last seven years. True, but the hardware we're running them on has gotten MUCH faster in that time, so our emulated Macs have, too. I recently had to...

I don't have the proper ROM image, so I cannot test it out. But... it ought to work. That could be a problem. ;{) I've used Mini vMac for years, and I would looooove to help test this out; but although I've accumulated a wide array of Mac ROMs, the Mac II ROM just can't be found anywhere. Obviously...
