Re: Cmd key often misses, and always if too fast

Again, short expansions work OK for me. It's only long ones, expanding into maybe 50 or more characters, that generate the 'v'. But the Cmd key typed manually still misses quite often, especially (but not exclusively) when I first come back to a window from another window (another System 9 applicati...

Re: Any way to remember OS 9 pop-up windows on restart?

Now that I've gone through more than a couple of restarts of SheepShaver, the aliases set up to link over to the Unix side no longer work as intended. They link to different folders than they originally did. What they link to seems to be more or less random. The OS X side is 10.13.6 on an iMac. (Per...

Re: Cmd key often misses, and always if too fast

I tried it. The same thing happens on both Simpletext and Clarisworks on my iMac -- any long TypeIt4Me string comes out just as 'v'.

Re: Cmd key often misses, and always if too fast

It shows up in Hypercard as well. It doesn't happen all the time (except for the TypeIt4Me sequences); I do a lot of typing and it shows up periodically but very often.

Re: Cmd key often misses, and always if too fast

Thanks. Tried that and it doesn't seem to change anything. (I've left it unchecked. What sorts of things will run slower with is unchecked?)

Cmd key often misses, and always if too fast

I write a lot of text in Word 4 using OS 9.2 under SheepShaver, and I tend to work fast and use keyboard shortcuts a lot. The Cmd (Apple, Command) key frequently "misses". That is, the application will think I'm typing the letter without the Cmd key pressed. Thus, I might type Cmd-f and quickly star...

Clipboard inconsistent

I've installed the newest SheepShaver (2.5) (on my 2017 iMac running OS X 10.13.6) and I find that the clipboard now sometimes works (it didn't use to work at all) and sometimes doesn't. I want to copy text from OS X, e.g. from Word 2016 or from Folio Views running on Windows using Parallels. The te...

Re: Cursor too small in SheepShaver 2.5

I'm also delighted to see that copy/paste (the clipboard) now works in the newest SheepShaver. Thanks guys!!! I do this all the time in my writing (picking up new text to paste into files I'm working on in Word 4 or HyperCard), and this saves me from constantly having to save a text file from OS X t...

Re: Any way to remember OS 9 pop-up windows on restart?

Thanks, but I'm trying to access my complete working file system from my writing and professional career -- 60,000 Word 4, HyperCard and Clarisworks files written over 30+ years -- so it's those windows I want accessible. So I'm not sure how this idea would help. The suggestion of aliases has helped...

Re: Any way to remember OS 9 pop-up windows on restart?

Thanks. It's my desktop layout and easy access to a lot of different folders that I want to survive restart, not specific applications. (And i would love it if Power On Software's Action Utilities (Action Files, last updated 1998) kept its memory of recent folders on the Unix side, but I'm pretty su...

Any way to remember OS 9 pop-up windows on restart?

I do some of my work in OS 9.2 under SheepShaver. When I restart SheepShaver (and thus reboot OS 9), after a quit or a computer restart, I have to re-do any pop-up windows from the "Unix" side that I want in OS 9 (the tabs along the bottom of the screen that keep specific windows accessible to the F...

Re: Cursor too small in SheepShaver 2.5

Thanks very much. My apologies: I thought I had looked for "preferences" in the manual but evidently I had searched incorrectly.

"hardcursor true" in the SheepShaver prefs file fixes the problem.

Cursor too small in SheepShaver 2.5

I've been using SheepShaver for over 10 years for my work, to run HyperCard and other OS 9 apps (thanks so much, you guys who maintain it!), and just upgraded from a 3-year-old MacBook Pro running OS X 10.13 to a new MacBookPro running 10.15. I downloaded the newest (2020) SheepShaver 2.5 and it run...

Re: SheepShaver quits immediately under OS X 10.11.5 and 11.

Clarification question: when you say SheepShaver runs fine in OS X 11.5, does that mean the Sheepshaver build listed in the sticky posting as the current one: =============== Currently recommended SheepShaver build for Mac OS X: 01 February 2014 build For PPC and Intel Mac, OSX 10.4 (Tiger) through ...

SheepShaver randomly hangs on sleep; copy/paste issues

First, I'd like to re-express my deep appreciation to those who have kept SheepShaver (SS) going all these years. I use it for serious work (as a very productive author of many Canadian tax publications used by legal and accounting professionals), and I still use Word 4.0, HyperCard and ClarisWorks ...

upgraded ... same problem

After posting I realized I should indicate what version I was running. And then as I posted that I realized it was pretty dumb to do that and not upgrade to the most recent version. So now I'm running the build of October 25, 2009. However, I'm getting the same behaviour. If I switch to another prog...

I should add that I'm running SheepShaver Build of July 21/08, which has been running smoothly under Leopard for a year or so.

SheepShaver hanging in Snow Leopard after laptop closed

I do all my core work (writing on Canadian tax law) very efficiently in Word 4.0 and HyperCard, and run them on System 9.2 on my main system (a G4). When I travel (which is often), I put a current copy of my files on our MacBook Pro running OS 9.2.2 under SheepShaver and all works fine ... until now...

thanks!

I want to thank everyone who's posted replies here. I do understand that SheepShaver Mac OS 9 may be unstable after a force-quit, though that shouldn't necessarily mean it will crash right away as described. I've put off trying the change in keycodes as I've been too busy and don't want to risk anyt...

mapping F1 to ESC?

Hmm. Thanks for the ideas. I think I know what can work. I don't have to disable any of cmd, option or ESC from their usual functions. Those can work as they always do, and if I hit all three, I'd get OS X's Force Quit. But what if I map F1, which I don't normally use, to be ESC while in OS 9? (I gu...

mapping cmd, option or esc with keycodes

Thanks for the idea, but I use all three of those keys extensively in my OS 9 applications (including HyperCard, Clarisworks and Word 4.0), and wouldn't want them not functioning normally...

Unless there's a way to map a combination of those three keys together?

transmitting a force-quit to OS 9

I'm using SheepShaver (v2.3, 21-07-2008) to run OS 9 programs underneath Leopard on a MacBook Pro and it works great (and is crucial to me staying productive at my work, as I use several key OS 9 applications). The one place I get stuck is when an OS 9 program hangs. There's no way to transmit a for...
