Re: System 6 in Technicolour: The Fast Track to Colour Syste

Now that Mac II support is in the "stable" branch and seems to be working well, I wonder why a "normal" build of Mac II MiniVmac hasn't been posted yet. When looking at the list of rescent custom build requests, the VAST majority seem to have been for relatively vanilla Mac II bu...

I'd noticed that myself on Linux. I suspect that Wolf3D bangs on the hardware at a lower level than BII emulates in order to get extra performance. If you have a fast-ish machine, you might try the IIcx driver in MESS, which should emulate the video at a lower level than BII and should handle things...

Pardon me for the bump, but I think folks are missing a rather obvious solution: Using Windows Stuffit in WINE works great.

Good news, folks. It turns out that BII isn't broken on Fedora 14, just my testing methodology. It turns out that BII will just silently crash of no disk images are attached. As soon as I even attached a blank image, it worked!

Does the Amiga Mac emulation software work reliably in it? If so, I don't see why that would be any less OK than the tutorial about using Fusion in DOSbox.

Well, here's four programs that DO work using a New World ROM on OS 9 using the latest Windows build from the stickied topic: - WordPerfect 3.5e - PageMaker 6.5 - PDFWriter 3.0 (an official Adobe PDF print driver) - Suitcase 3.0 I'm still looking for some non-working stuff to report, though I'm not ...

Things that Don't Work Right on SheepShaver

I'm working on getting a SheepShaver install set up and before I go too far I want to know if there's any programs and games that just plain don't work (aside from obvious things like 3D games and the like) Ideally, I'd like to get a setup going so that I can do some typesetting work done using my c...

If you're using Mini vMac, System 6 is great for running all sorts of apps, but you need system 7 sometimes to get them to run. That being the case, you could do this: make a System 6.0.8 install and a System 7.x (7.1.x is usually more than enough, though you may want to go to 7.5.5 for best compat...

I see your point about VM, madcrow. Actually, I am using SheepShaver with my Atom netbook and a Mandriva host system these days for simple gaming. The performance is not too bad with 7.6 really. I did benchmarks some time ago, clockwise has hosted them somewhere in the forum, if you should be inter...

I'm trying to do a 32-bit build for my old laptop running Fedora 14. Sadly, it seems that while the build appears to go well, things crash with an invalid pointer error as soon as I attempt to start emulation after finishing in the config screen. Did you have JIT enabled? Every time I have successf...

I like 6 best, but for my very old games, I am using System3 or 4 occasionally. Mostly I have MiniVMac running in SheepShaver on my Mandriva host, because I found it the easiest way to copy files all over my computer. A shame you could not make BII run with your laptop. Did you check for other host...

Best OS for Mini vMac

Since BII doesn't seem to like my laptop, I've decided to use Mini vMac so that I can at least have a little bit of classic Mac on the go. This brings up a big question, though: which version of System/Mac OS should I use? System 6.0.8 probably makes the best use of the limited 4 megs of virtual RAM...

Hi, Did you not have an error during the configure phase saying that a program that needed to establish whether low memory could be mapped was stopped by selinux? I had that, and added a rule to selinux (which was suggested in the notification I got) to allow the program to work. After that, I conf...

8.6 versus 9.0.4: which works better in Sheepshaver?

The topic kind of sums up my question pretty well. I want to know what people's experiences are regarding 8.6 and 9.0.4 and what people seem to feel works best on their Sheepshaver installs?

This is actually a pretty easy problem to solve: if you compile things yourself, you never have to woory about having a different version of the libraries than the compiler has ;)

Actually, given that Windows 95 is seen by the compiler as being Windows 3.1+Win32s, the finished bianry probably WOULD work on a copy of Windows 3.1 so long as the Win32s libraries were installed.

Where is the last working Linux Sheepshaver source code kept

After running into a few things that need a PowerPC to run, I decided I'd take the plunge into the world of Sheepshaver. Sadly, it seems like the code found in the CVS repo on Cebix no longer builds at all (All kinds of weird issues with missing bits and pieces in the build system including autoconf...

Basilisk II Unix source code doesn't get along with GCC 4.4!

After getting fed up with a bunch of performance issues with the Windows build of BII, I decided to go ahead and build a version of the code under Linux, hwich is my "main" system for non-entertainment purposes anyway. Sadly, with both the 2006 1.0-pre5 code and a CVS dump made from Cebix ...
