64-bit Sheepshaver Launcher

I have SheepShaver Launcher from Sparsebundle support, and new builds of SS & B2, but it is 32-bit so won't run on macOS 10.15 Catalina.

What's the status of SheepShaver Launcher these days? Is it considered obsolete?

The version you get from macemu's downloads is still 32-bit.

Re: Feature Request: AppleScript

Which version of Mac OS added Remote Events to AppleScript?

I'm thinking if that was in the classic Mac OS (or if an extension existed to provide that functionality), then you could do what you want by treating the SheepShaver machine as a remote machine.

Re: My old SheepShaver builds

But I have no idea why people would be downloading the older versions. Do you have any idea where they were clicking from (originating uri)? No, all it tells me is most clicks come from emaculation.com. The rest are "Dark Traffic" (meaning no referrer) or via bit.ly. And the only download...

Re: My old SheepShaver builds

Isn't it possible to turn on sharing for the individual files and redirect the bitly links to the new uri? It is possible to generate new Dropbox Shared Links for each of the files, dig through the forum to find where the links were originally published, and replace them with the new link URL. The ...

Re: SheepShaverLauncher on El Capitan

Ah, that's it! SheepShaver.app is set to run 32-bit, but that doesn't make any difference here, because SheepShaverLauncher runs an embedded copy. The problem is that while SheepShaverLauncher is 32-bit, the embedded copy of SheepShaver is universal: ppc, i386, x86_64. So SheepShaverLauncher is tryi...

SheepShaverLauncher on El Capitan

Is SheepShaverLauncher working on El Capitan (OS X 10.11.6)? Stand-alone SheepShaver (20140201 build) is working, but when I try to use SheepShaverLauncher with the same settings, launching SheepShaver fails with "Couldn't posix_spawn: error 88", followed by a stack trace. I've tried repla...

Re: Some improvements for SheepShaver

SheepShaver is supposed to be able to run with the memory offset, i.e. the allocated memory block isn't at address zero. SheepShaver calls this "direct" memory mode, as opposed to "real". This isn't working right now for several reasons, including: Unlike Basilisk II, the offset ...

Re: Good free search utility for Mac SheepShaver disks

You can mount the SheepShaver drive in OS X and then search it with the usual OS X tools, such as Find Any File. You should be able to index it with Spotlight that way.

Re: SheepShaver on Windows 7 64-bit

Networking via DHCP probably was working -- I forgot that I needed to set a proxy server. I'll check that today. The reason it froze when attempting to change the networking settings, and when changing volume, is in both cases that causes a system alert beep. So, the problem is: when it tries to emi...

SheepShaver on Windows 7 64-bit

First, a solution: One cause of the "unable to open rom file" error is an inconsistency between the SheepShaverGUI and SheepShaver itself. The GUI saves the preference file in whatever the current directory is. For example, if you create a shortcut to the GUI and set it's current directory...

Re: Outlook 2001 for Mac Classic will not start in SheepShav

In the end Outlook 2001 had trouble even running on a real Mac (i.e. not in SheepShaver). I seem to recall that it needed to connect to an Exchange server, but didn't support the newer Exchange authentication. And it may not support the lastest PST format. For opening PST files, I'd suggest: Give in...

The other big question is why running the identical disk image and settings in older versions of SheepShaver did not run into the illegal memory problem? Let's assume that the difference is due to the repositioning of the RAM and ROM starting addresses. I can think of two possibilities: The shiftin...

"Ignore memory access errors" did the trick. It now opens in the latest build. Is it dangerous to run this way? Could it overwrite memory used by other applications? It can't touch memory used by other applications; each process has its own address space. And even within the SheepShaver a...

I found it. Here's the results of running Sheepshaver build 2009-07-26 from Terminal on my MBP. The OS 9.0.4 disk image runs fine on Sheepshaver 2009-03-19: The ea (effective address) of 0xf150baf7 is the reason for the SIGSEGV -- it is way out of bounds. Have you tried setting the preference to ig...

The obvious difference between the 19-03-2009 build and the 14-07-2009 build is that the July build contains RAM-anywhere changes. The SheepShaver_UB_20090714 build is one Ronald created from my sources. At that point the RAM-anywhere code was disabled for PPC. Please try the 2009-07-26 build, which...

I can't remember for sure, but I think I tried compiling in direct mode but gave up; looked like too much work for me at the time. I managed to get an X version to work most of the time in as I think Direct mode as used by SheepShaver is fundamentally flawed. In Basilisk II, when Direct mode is use...

The two fixes (NVRAM init for PPC memory manager, finding ROM in default location) are committed to CVS. As for Roland's problem with the video extension: it appears that this extension was coded to expect the ROM to be loaded at a particular address, so it doesn't work when you relocate the ROM. Th...
