Re: SheepShaver Wrapper on macOS Big Sur

Okay. Here's an update. I'm so close with making the disk image, which does work from the root directory, sort of. In the root directory, with the disk utility, I made several attempts to make a disk image from my E-bay bought copy of the Mac version of Return to Zork. When I returned to my own per...

Re: Has anyone gotten QEMU to boot the Quadra 800 ROM?

The QEMU board is locked, and I can't send private messages until some unknown condition is met, so I'm posting this here. I've tried compiling QEMU straight from the git repo and from Laurent Vivier's upstream m68k-virt branch, and I'm getting a blank screen when I follow the guide on the wiki. I ...

To be honest, I've never tried -- I just create a large enough initial volume and use CDs or floppies as secondaries.

Re: Two tips for installing Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard in QEMU

OS X does have NFS built-in, it's just hard to configure on non-Server builds.

Re: MAME: Trying to Emulate System 6

The latest versions of MAME use an XML file containing the hashes of known images for a system plus metadata that goes with that hash. It looks like the disk images you're trying to use aren't in the hashlist. There are a number of ways around this; the easiest is to use chdman to convert your disk ...

Re: Opens fine, but only after dozens of launch crashes

Hmm... interesting. Sounds like either ~/.sheepshaver_prefs got corrupted, or the OS's cache of SheepShaver got corrupted. If it's the second, your problem should now be permanently fixed. If it's the first, you may want to open the Preferences menu, validate/fix the settings, shut down SheepShaver,...

Re: How to copy files into QEMU?

You can also use Disk Utility to either a) mount the QEMU image on the host as well as the update image, and copy the files across that way, or b) convert the compressed dmg to a read-write dmg which QEMU can mount. Third option is c) to use network filesharing between the host and guest, and then c...

Re: Debugging under Codewarrior?

I'm having partial success, using CodeWarrior 10 and SheepShaver 2.5. My app runs fine, and when Enable Debugger is chosen, the debugger .SYM window and the Stack window appear. I can set breakpoints in the .SYM window's source code view, but the Stack window does not show the Stack or Source. The ...

Re: Opens fine, but only after dozens of launch crashes

Could you supply a crash dump from the latest one? After a reboot? It'll help eliminate possible issues.

Also: the big questions still isn't answered: did you install anything new around the time you started having issues?

Re: Opens fine, but only after dozens of launch crashes

First thing I notice is this: Version: 2.5 (2.5.2019.05.04) Of course, if you're running Sierra, the 2019 build should be just fine, but we've made a lot of improvements since then. Might be worth an update to a recent 2.5.2021 build. However, it's likely that something else you've installed is clob...

Re: SheepShaver Wrapper on macOS Big Sur

Well, I'm halfway there. I got standalone Sheepshaver to work in the root directory, but it now ignores my physical disk. Also, I'm stuck with an empty Untitled directory in root sheepshaver. In my regular personal directory, Disk Utility won't let me create an image. I get this error: Creating dis...

Re: A/UX under Basilisk II ?

Indeed; the options currently are Shoebill and the unreleased version of qemu-system-m68k. Since the upcoming qemu variant only emulates the Quadra 800, it will only run A/UX 3.x. Shoebill emulates a Mac II-ish, so will also run A/UX 1.1.1 and up (but won't reliably run 3.1.1). [edit] nice to see th...

Re: MPW-GM ISO for Mini vMac 26, System 7

FYI, Macintosh Garden has macintosh-programmers-workshop, where that same disc image is the first item available -- but it's in .img.bin format instead of .toast. This means it's a Disk Copy image in MacBinary format, which is perfect for importing to Mini vMac.

Re: SheepShaver Wrapper on macOS Big Sur

Ronald and Cat_7, I want to run Sheepshaver Wrapper as a root user because that's the only way S.W. can read a CD Rom. Like I said in my initial post, at least that's the way it was under El Capitan and Sierra. I have a CD Rom Mac game from 1994. Didn't we already recommend making an image of the C...

The big one my family plays (because it's better than the versions on other platforms) is Lode Runner Online - Revenge of the Mad Monks. I'm interested in how you get on with MacIPgw-VM -- I tried setting it up recently and found the IP configuration didn't match the documentation, and never got it talking AppleTalk on my own network. Using Etherhelper with BII worked fine for me though; connected with my actual hardware. Just not Ma...
