Re: System 7.1: Shift key does something strange
Hi there, I have noticed that, when emulating a System 7.1 capable Mac (Mac II CI, Quadra 800), pressing SHIFT sometimes makes the system emit a piercing sound and there's an small icon that looks like a pressed key appearing on the upper-right corner of the screen. Does not happen on System 6.x ap...

Re: Qemu-system-m68k macOS to run Mac OS 7-8 /AUX3.x /NetBSD
Is A/UX compatible with Mac games? Let's say I want to run Prince of Persia, or Lemmings, etc.. under A/UX. Do you guys know if they should work? I have read that A/UX is compatible with Mac apps, but there isn't a single word about games on A/UX anywhere. Rule of thumb: If a game can run on System...

Re: Mac System 7/8 games with smooth scrolling?
Best place to ask a question like this is probably Macintosh Garden. The one that comes to mind for me is Abuse by Bungie. There's also flight simulator games that "scroll" in all directions. And for System 6 era games, I believe Beyond Dark Castle has some smooth scrolling action when you...

Re: Mouse Not Scrolling in Mac OS 9.2.2
Ever since I installed Qemu and Mac OS 9.2.2, it seems that I am unable to scroll in windows, and must resort to using the scroll bars. Is this a known bug in Qemu, or am I missing adding a string to the qema-ppc-command script, or does something need to be done within Mac OS 9.2.2 itself? You're u...

Re: Qemu virtio drivers for Mac OS 9.x
Okay, I finally got it working. BUT -- and I don't know if this is what Cat_7 warned me about -- but my cursor in Mac OS 9.2.2 has become totally useless. I mean it is jumping around all over the place, and I can barely get it to hover over anything. The shared folder does appear on my Mac OS 9 des...

Re: Qemu virtio drivers for Mac OS 9.x
In other words, the name of the shared folder from the Sonoma side? The entire path. So if you've got a shared folder named "Shared Folder" in your Documents folder, you'd enter path="/User/<your username>/Documents/Shared Folder" Note the quotes. If you don't use them, you'll n...

Re: A/UX AppleTalk information
If you're setting up an A/UX 3.x environment, it's probably best to use QEMU-M68k for that, as it supports SCSI and so theoretically should support HD SC Setup. This environment could then be used to set up the 1.1.1 target image and copy the iso contents over, and set the init. Then the result coul...

Re: Qemu virtio drivers for Mac OS 9.x
mount_tag is what you'll see on the OS 9 desktop.
path is the location of the folder on your host system (Sonoma) that you want to share.

Re: Performa floppy images driving me nuts to try and install
Follow up to an old thread, for those who stumble on this and are looking for the solution: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/apple-backup-extractor -- one of the MG members wrote a tool (that runs on the Classic Mac OS) that can extract the contents of an Apple Backup file without having a Performa ...

Re: Mac emulator-as-a-zine
I'm kind of confused as to what your goals are. Are you thinking that you write the zine in HTML and publish it in a Mac OS 7/8/9 disk image complete with OS? Or write it in HTML and publish it on an otherwise blank DC42 image that can be mounted by Infinite Mac or any other online emulator? Or wri...

Re: A/UX AppleTalk information
I've now got images of A/UX 1.1.1 and 2.1 that boot with Shoebill. I encounter several issues: -with 2.1 I get an error saying login respawns too quickly. This seems to indicate a config error somewhere. -with 1.1.1 I boot into the console, no desktop. Even though I edited the default sysinit/runle...

Hi there! I am happily using qemu-system-m68k on GNU/Linux, built from latest Qemu GIT sources, to emulate a Quadra 800. But there's something I don't get about qemu-system-m68k, and about Macintosh classic systems in general. Let's begin by setting some terms: original B/W Macintosh systems with b...

Re: Help! Copying games from HFS volume to HFS volume on GNU/Linux
Thanks guys. I have finally settled down to using HFSUTILS (hmount, hmkdir, hcopy, humount). I am limited to copying files, but luckily I can use * to get all files copied, and I have to manually recreate the directories, but well, it works for transferring games from DSK files (which QEMU can't mo...

Huh. I must be doing something wrong. All I get is the single-user mode...AUX Penelope says to modify /etc/inittab, but I can't even get vi to function correctly (it says it can't determine the shell used, which should be sh). Re: Programming my own Mac emulator
Just been fiddling with DingusPPC. It's amazing how far it's come. Some things I noticed (and you are probably aware of): As I remembered, the G3 ROM has color icons. I'm able to boot from a floppy with a 7200/120 ROM, but I can't get to the Happy Mac if there's either a CD-ROM or hard dr...

Isn't the solution already implemented? VirtFS works great for me with OS 9 now, and no longer even requires the VirtFS system extension be installed.

Cat_7, you wrote: "I also do not know why you want everything on one single disk." That wasn't me ;-) No worries with the logins, i was just trying whether my installation reacted the same. It seems such a pain to configure the bbs without manual... FWIW: While running Hermes in Qemu I ha...

Re: A/UX AppleTalk information
Does anybody have a ready-to-go A/UX 1.1 image or .dsk for Shoebill? There's no dsk, just the iso. You can boot the iso directly, but beware, as shoebill will mount it read/write. There are instructions on https://aux-penelope.com/aux_1.0.htm for using A/UX 3.0 to take the 1.1.1 image and restore i...

Re: Help! Copying games from HFS volume to HFS volume on GNU/Linux
Personally I've switched to always assuming data fork only from the host system -- so for HFS-only img files, I'll just copy it into the guest image, then use ShrinkWrap, Disk Copy or Toast to mount the image internally. Disk Copy Image files, Stuffit files, Binhex files and MacBinary files may lose...

Re: SheepShaver for Windows
Interesting that the issue is consistently moving from 512 to 1024MB VRAM in the BIOS. We understand the reason (the static mapping of components of SheepShaver in memory overruns the memory block allocated), but maybe this points to a potential solution for someone hacking the SheepShaver code? Mov...

Re: Create Emulation fro complete disk image
There's not really any reason to do that; you can just turn on CD sharing for the Mini and have the drive show up on a different Mac via the network. However, what you really want to do is create an image of the CD (tool to use as linked in other thread: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/dumptoiso-a-...

Re: making an iso from genuine install media
You want this: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/dumptoiso-a-script-os-x-dump-cds-and-dvds-iso-files The issue isn't that there's copy protection on the CDs, it's that Apple has over time hobbled both media access from the OS AND removed features from Disk Utility, while also getting creative about w...
